Sequels "Gambit" starring Channing Tatum? - Part 4

Exclusive: X-Men Producer Explains What Films Will Influence Gambit

"I think with the standalone movies, meaning Logan and Deadpool. Not mainline, X-Men movies, one of the things we've strived to do is sort of create a sub-genre within the genre of the superhero movie. Obviously Deadpool was like a R-rated comedy. Logan was very much a western. And, so we talked a lot about who Gambit is. And it's always motivated by the character is. We talked a lot about who Gambit is as a character and the things that Channing [Tatum] relates to in the character. And so obviously he's a thief, obviously you know his superpowers, those things are going to be very present and prevalent in the movie. But he's also a scoundrel, and a rascal, and a womanizer, and a lot of other things that we felt like we could explore in his relationships with women and one of the genres that is underserviced genre now is the romantic comedy. So whenever we can smuggle some other genre into one of these kinds of movies... I mean I did it with...The first movie I ever wrote was Mr. and Mrs. Smith and that was a romantic comedy smuggled into a spy thriller. In the same way that on the surface it will be a superhero movie with you know. People love superpowers and things are going to explode and there's going to be car chases and all of that. Doing all the powers and cards that you are familiar with. Underneath that will be romantic comedy undercurrents and it's not really like Rom-coms from when we were growing up. Or when I was growing up. It's more going back to like Philadelphia Story and His Girl Friday and just the kind of pattern banter of that and the fun and speed of those kinds of movies."

As long as it’s an actual Gambit movie

Remember when we got katniss Everdeen shoehorned into the X-men universe? I don’t recall Lawrence ever actually giving us a proper portrayal of super villain mystique

Wait a minute, you don’t say fox will eventually lead up to a dazzler musical with this??? :funny:

If they embraced the cheesiness of it, I'm sure it could have eventually become a "cult favorite".

wasnt filming gonna start in Feb?
cant wait for Kinbergs next interview to talk about the production

I'm really surprised they announced Multiple Man, Shadowcat and Dr Doom shortly before the Disney/Marvel deal, in addition the work in progress (New Mutants and Gambit). It's almost contradictory to announce new last-minute projects when you have a proven cast for what could be an X5 post-Logan (namely thinking of Ellen Page and Wolverine's new successor Laura aka X-23).

An X5 would have been the ONLY way to secure fan support for more X-movies by fox and probably the safest way to cash out one last time on their X-Men franchise.

it probably was Kinberg and producers way to try to stay in the franchise for more years.

the more movies in production, the more years they would stay working for the x-men franchise. fingers crossed Feige shows them the door.

Channing Tatum will write, direct, and edit the Gambit movie.with Kinberg doing the reshoots.
and Tatum will play Remy's closest friend and the main villain too, in what is expected to be his breakout role

If this is the case then Marvel is definitely rebooting and recasting once the deal is done.

I will have to say I was a bit excited about the heist movie idea. However, the fact Tatum is allegedly Cajun himself will put even more pressure on the authenticity and quality of a Gambit film, imo. I wanna say that raises my expectations a bit.

Wasn't that obvious lol.

i don't feel bad for them as they had years to film and couldn't find a director to commit. And seriously who loses 3 directors? It isnt like an indie film that ain't part of a movie franchise strugglingfor money. Oh wait its Fox anyway, we know how they like to keep things underbudget.... foX really showed their incompetence here, while Marvel Stud10s managed to make a solo film for 9 different characters from 2008 to 2019.

In Hindsight, this will be for the best, Gambit would completely look new to the general public when he appears in a Mcu film, as his last film appearance is way bck in 2009. And I don't really want a solo X-Men, they are more interesting when they surround each other.

Actually, Tatum grow up in the bayou, a Cajun accent will not be a problem.
That why he wants to play Gambit, because can relate to the character who is from the same place.

Soon as Disney takes over, this movie will get off the ground.

Exactly! Gambit needs to be in a damn team movie. I don't want another 6 Wolverine movies, 3 Storm movies, 4 Cyclops movies etc. Give us proper X-Men with an exciting line up.

Yeah I really want to see the team evolve in like 6 or more films, and see how relationship with each other change in those films.

I wouldn't be surprise to see Gambit in the post-credits of Endgame

lol, yeah, from all the x-men, gambit would be the first one to appear? 5% chances of it happening.

Charles, Cyclops, Storm or Wolverine are the strongest candidates.

I think this movie will get made. What hurt it was F4 failure. After that debacle, no director wants to work with Fox on a X-Men or F4 movie.
Even Tim Miller left Deadpool because of Fox’s interference.

That didn't stop David Leitch and James Mangold.

Gambit is done, imo.

I think Gambit has the best chance with Disney for three reasons.
1. It already set to go, it just needs a director.
2. It’s free from Fox’s executives.
3. Reid Carolin one of the writer and producer of Gambit, he is also Tatum’s business partner. But more importantly he is the future son in law of Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn.
