Game of Thrones - Book Readers' Thread - - - - - - - - Part 25

Does anyone read the comics? Really enjoying them so far, and it's good to see how the characters are imagined to look without the constraints of having to get real world actors.

I didn't know they started those up again. I had assumed it wasn't successful enough so they ended it after they were done adapting the first book but it's nice to see they've started A Clash of Kings. Better late than never, I guess.

I've only just started. Is that where they're up to in relation to the books? I really hope they get to the end as I'm loving them.

I saw that they just released the first of their A Clash of Kings adaptation this summer after a three year break since they finished A Game of Thrones.

Great that they're continuing and it's a shame they had to stop at all. I'm reading them right now while posting.

I think at her best, yes, but I think the character's going through a devolution this season and will continue to do so. Not for nothing did Tycho Nestoris point out that Cersei's military power is entirely dependent on Euron's loyalty which he and Jaime have continually noted was fickle at best. You don't introduce that chekov's gun without firing it at some point.

Aye well I hope you're right, can't take much more of her smug stink face.

I know the women of bear island are trained to fight in the books, because they had to protect their shores from raiders while the men were away hunting.

I know Maege and Dacey (likely the other daughters except for Lyanna as well) all marched with Robb, but do bear island common women usually fight in wars (Robb's or otherwise) or do they stick to defending bear island?

Its the ghost of Syrio.

Or it could be...
...an extra on the set. *le gasp*

:o

It IS Lady Stoneheart. She stopped by Winterfell to drop a deuce... revenge for the deuce D&D dropped on her character.

They aren't doing Lady Stoneheart on this show guys. If they were, we would've seen her by now.

Yes that's what.... everyone... just said.

good eye. maybe they did throw in an easter egg for us. I'm okay with that.

If that's what they were going for I suppose it's a nice, if not fairly cringey, nod. Any shout outs these guys do towards Lady Stoneheart aren't really welcome as far as I'm concerned.

Was just thinking about Mel and her purpose now in the show with the other priests. Was thinking that they might, when things are looking like going absolutely utterly bleak, that they might come across a couple of stone dragons.

Fire and Blood, the prequel history book about the Targaryens is being released November 20, 2018

There is good news and bad news for "Game of Thrones" fans. The good news: George R.R. Martin is returning to the world of Westeros with a new book scheduled to be published later this year. "Fire & Blood" is a prequel to the "A Song of Ice and Fire" book series that forms the basis for the hit HBO show "Game of Thrones." It and its forthcoming companion are not novels, Martin says; the first is scheduled for publication Nov. 20 from Ballantine Bantam Dell.

The bad news is that the long-awaited next book in the series, "The Winds of Winter," isn't going to arrive anytime soon. Readers have been eagerly anticipating "The Winds of Winter," the sixth in the series, for years — Martin has yet to finish the novel, which will be the first new book in the series since "A Dance With Dragons" was published in 2011.

Martin alluded to the long-awaited novel in a statement. "No, winter is not coming... not in 2018, at least," he wrote. "You're going to have to keep waiting for THE WINDS OF WINTER. ... I do want to stress...indeed, I want to shout... that FIRE & BLOOD is not a novel. This is not a traditional narrative and was never intended to be…let's call this one 'imaginary history' instead. The essential point being the 'history' part. I love reading popular histories myself, and that's what I was aiming for here… As for me, I'm returning once again to THE WINDS OF WINTER."

The prequel "Fire & Blood" will be "the definitive history of the Targaryens in Westeros and chronicles the conquest that united the Seven Kingdoms under Targaryen rule through the Dance of the Dragons: the Targaryen civil war that nearly ended their dynasty forever," according to the publisher.

Fans of the bestselling fantasy series have long been clamoring for a new book set in Westeros, but this one might not be what they had in mind.

On his blog, Martin said that "Fire & Blood" is a "hefty book," running nearly 1,000 manuscript pages. He added that it will contain dozens of black-and-white illustrations by comic book artist Doug Wheatley.

Good to know. I'll pick it up. I love reading about the history of fantasy worlds. Of course WoW isn't coming out lol. :csad: Wonder how far he's got with it.

He seems a bit distracted by these other projects. Maybe never. :(
