Yeah, they seriously need to make Barristan relevant. Otherwise why go to the trouble of casting someone like Ian McElhinney for the role?

Also Stephen Dillane did a recent interview about GoT that was very interesting, (in an annoying way) apparently when D&D cast him they told him absolutely nothing about his character or backstory. Very odd, and dare I say unprofessional of them.

I hope GRRM writes Stannis into some future pivitol moment in the series that cant be cut or downplayed just to spite D&D. That would put a huge smile on my face.

I think one of the D's has the right idea about Stannis, actually.

Benioff, from what I gather.

Yeah, it bothers me that they'd neglect an aspect of the series as bad as they have. I mean no adaption is ever 100% perfect, but a lot of their treatment towards that part of story screams of them simply not caring.

So Benioff isnt the problem? Its Weiss?

In terms of how they approach the adaption process they're very different. Benioff more often than not tries to basically take what was in the book and then do that, whereas Weiss is more inclined to alter and add things that he thinks might be an improvement to what GRRM wrote.

It has varying levels of success, but when they come to something like Stannis things get messy, because Benioff more or less holds the opinion that Stannis is like any other character; you just take how he is from the books and try to stay close to that. Weiss for his part doesn't really like or enjoy that storyline, so when they go about writing that aspect of the series things come out somewhat half-hearted, simply because it's being written by two contrasting viewpoints that tend to undermine each other.

In regards to Season 6, I think it's about half of it will be finishing off ADWD and the other half will be TWOW plot points. We already know they like to add filler, and most of the time it's good - except the Yara/Dreadfort stuff - so they can easily pad out the seasons using that. Plus, with characters like Bran, Theon and Davos, they only need to be seen three or four times in a season (which is irritating with Bran because his storyline and how it relates to magic is one of my favourites when he only has three chapters in ADWD).

Things such as (MAJOR BOOK SPOILERS) [BLACKOUT]Jon's apparent death[/BLACKOUT] will probably be stretched until the end of Season 6 but for certain characters like the ones I mentioned above their storylines will probably already go into TWOW. If Martin wants to stay safe then he needs to have that book out by the end of 2015.

I am so excited for tonight, but I'm trying to lower my expectations because it'll be a real downer if the last scene isn't [BLACKOUT]LS[/BLACKOUT] and I haven't even read that far yet and know very little about the character. Just the idea of it cutting to black on [BLACKOUT]her[/BLACKOUT] face.

I'm excited for the episode for the most part. When i read Storm of Swords, i knew this episode was going to be one where Dinklage and Nikolai get Emmy nods/awards. Dinklage has been awesome this whole season.

I'm just worried about the Hound stuff and beyond the Wall stuff. Hoping for the best.

@Roose: What Dillane interview would this be? Also, the actor of Mace Tyrell also didn't really get any information either and he was out of loop when he began workin.

Well, I think the difference there would be that Mace Tyrell is a relatively unimportant character.

It's on and popping tonight fellas. Man it's going to be a long wait till season 5

Well...

It's going to be interesting to see how they handle the betrayal at Castle Black. If, like most folks expect, Jon somehow survives the encounter... then I don't know if they'd want to end a season with his fate lingering. In no small part because the set photos from the next season would reveal, rather quickly, whether Jon was alive or dead.

BOOK FIVE SPOILERS:

While we don't know what happens after Jon is betrayed, I think it's safe to say he'll be back. I believe the common theory that he warged into Ghost and Melisandre will resurrect his body. If that is how it happens, we need to see Jon having the same wolf dreams that Bran had, but with Ghost's POV. We don't need to see a lot of it, maybe just a scene or two over the course of the season, but early on, like in the first or second episode. Then what I would do is have him betrayed at the end of episode 9. This would fit the episode 9 pattern of major death, battle, major death, battle.

Season 1: Death of Ned
Season 2: Battle of Blackwater
Season 3: Red Wedding
Season 4: Battle at the Wall
Season 5: The Betrayal of Jon Snow

Then in episode 10 we maybe get a hint that he may not be dead after all, maybe a scene involving Melisandre and Ghost. But if that is indeed how it happens, I wouldn't have him resurrected until the first episode of season six.

I like the fan idea of Mereen becoming the new King's Landing, i mean, the Missandei actress did get a new contract making her a regular, + they recast Daario so hopefully that guy gets more screen time too?

+ We all want and love the brand new Greyworm subplot.

Isn't it curious that... SPOILERS FOR TONIGHT'S EPISODE
On father's day, we'll see Tyrion killing Tywin???

While I think it's likely, I'm not thrilled with it. I'm not particularly fond of Dany as is - but her supporting cast is just impossibly stale. Can't believe they're using characters like Missandei and Grey Work to eat up screen time.

When does it start in US? How long from now?

Thanks. I need to know about certain things. ;)
I hear ya there. I can't believe a certain something hasn't been spoiled by those with screeners yet (questionable reports notwithstanding). I was sure that spoiler would have leaked definitively by now, and it's killing me, haha.

Yeah very surprised by that. Pretty confident it'll happen though. But I need to know for sure. :woot::csad:

So is this show ever getting it's own section? I'd like to discuss things from the books.

Things like theories about [BLACKOUT]Jon Snow's parents[/BLACKOUT]. Even thought I'm pretty sure I've got that one figured out.
