Rogue One Gareth Edwards directing Rogue One - Release Date Dec 16 2016

Small tidbit on Rogue One.

Currently in post, Hateful Eight was lensed on 65mm negative and is believed to be the first production since 1966's Khartoum to use Ultra Panavision 70 anamorphic lenses. Sasaki related that Richardson came to Panavision looking for something different, and when he saw the look created by these lenses, he said, "This is it."

This led to an enormous effort at Panavision, which reworked 19 of these classic lenses for the production in just a few months. (Incidentally, these lenses are expected to next be used for Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One by cinematographer Greig Fraser.)

Would Love A Yoda Movie more so then an Obi Wan. Maybe have him with Dooku as his apprentice. Or a Movie about jedi of the old republic.

The Force is strong with Forest Whitaker - he's joined #StarWars spinoff #RogueOne http://variety.com/2015/film/news/star-wars-rogue-one-forest-whitaker-cast-1201496190/ …

The film stars Felicity Jones, Riz Ahmed, Diego Luna and Ben Mendelsohn, with Gareth Edwards directing.

Disney and Lucasfilm had no comment on the casting.

At April’s Star Wars Celebration convention in Anaheim, Edwards revealed that the plot of “Rogue One” revolves around the heist of the Death Star plans by a group of rebel fighters, with Jones starring as one of the rebel soldiers. Sources say Ahmed and Luna also play Alliance fighters. Whitaker’s role is unknown at this time.

The film will take place between Episode III and Episode IV, but closer chronologically to “A New Hope.” It’s set to bow December 16, 2016.

Whitaker is currently filming Denis Villeneuve sci-fi drama “The Story of Your Life” opposite Amy Adams, and is in negotiations to follow that film with “The Crow” remake in the fall before jumping into production on “Star Wars: Rogue One.”

He’ll next appear in Antoine Fuqua’s boxing drama “Southpaw,” a potential Oscar contender bowing later this summer, and is a producer on critically acclaimed Sundance hit “Dope,” which bows on June 19.

Forest would have made a much better "wise Zem Jedi" than SLJ did (he was really miscast in that role). As for this movie, I'd like to see him as an officer of some kind (be it Imperial or Rebel).

lol yeah.

George Lucas: "Hey, you guys know that actor who was in Pulp Fiction and Jurassic Park and the third Die Hard? The one who always does a lot of yelling?... Samuel L. Jackson, right! Thank you!....... I think we should cast him as a Jedi master."

This whole cast is phenomenal.

Forrest Whitaker's casting is exactly the kind of thing that got me excited when I heard Disney bought Star Wars. I knew they'd go the traditional route for unknowns as the core leads with respected actors in the supporting roles. To see actors like Whitaker (And Max Von Sydow in TFA) filling those roles and playing in the Star Wars universe is just great.

Heck you can have him as a Jedi (although he'd probably have made a better Sith or badass Bounty Hunter or something). Just don't cast his as the "Zen-Jedi," make him some kind of "harder-edged" more forceful Jedi. That'd have worked fine. You want a "wise old Black Jedi," here are some alternative possibilities:

-Morgan Freeman.
-Forest Whitaker.
-Sidney Poitier.
-Louis Gossett Jr.
-Denzel Washington.
-Etc.

New rumors say the film will include some familiar characters such as...
Vader, Fett, Bossk, Dengar, 4-LOM, IG-88 and CAD BANE!

I will be thrilled if we get a live action version of that last one.

I want a movie full of disintegration's. It'll give Vader's stern request to Fett that much more meaning in ESB.

Too bad this isn't about the plans for the second Death Star so we could get some epic Bothan's set pieces.

I'm particularly excited about that last name you mentioned. It would be awesome if he made it! Loved him in CW :woot:

[BLACKOUT]Cad Bane[/BLACKOUT] seriously became one of my favorite Star Wars characters. I would be so thrilled to see him in a movie.
