Oh ya it's a good film. It's just been a while since I've seen it. I may have to check it out in the next week ;)

I too haven't seen it in a while. I'm sure Isaac will be good in Star Wars, I trust Abrams casting decisions.

I haven't seen that film yet but I did like Isaac in Drive.

Isaac was good in that one, so much so that there were a lot of people who thought he should have gotten an Oscar nomination and normally in a weak year, an Oscar nomination was likely.

Driver wasn't half bad in that one either.

The Dark Knight Rises was lackluster. :oldrazz: :hrt:

For the record given the little outburst I saw on the other page, I never said Boyega couldn't act, I said he didn't have any presence that made him stand out.

Because Al Pacino and Burt Reynolds were offered the Han Solo role before it went to Ford, and the only reason Lucas cast unknowns as Luke and Leia was due to budget. In the PT Hayden was the only unknown amongst the leads. Of the 4 unknown leads across the 2 trilogies only one of them went on to any commercial and critical success as an actor. The idea that the franchise is a breeding ground for discovering huge stars and acting talent is a dewy eyed mix of revisionist history and flat out falsehood.

George did not want them though, it was more of the studios that wanted some of those. The thing is I think you are misinterpreting what she's saying. Natalie and Ewan were not massive stars they were up and comers. Even some of the smaller roles like Keria (sp) and Joel Edgerton. Of course they have had veterans as well. And Boyega/Ridley are still relatively unknown. It's not a falsehood. I've never seen it as completely unknowns, of course everyone has some work behind them, even Mark/Harrison did. It's not revisionist history. It's why they said discovering AND nurturing. Natalie and Jake, and Hayden and Ewan were not massive stars, most studios would not put them as leads of massive blockbusters.

So it has been somewhat of a tradition to have a lot of the parts played by complete unknown and lots of relativity unknowns. I only knew Natalie from Mars Attacks and that small part in Heat, but she became much more famous after SW, same with Ewan.

So ya not all of them went on to do great things afterwards, (Mark did in a different medium) But most of them are still very talented. So I would say SW does find talented people that are not mainstream. Even though I did not care for the PT, I think Natalie, and Ewan/Keria are amazing actors. And with Ewan and even Natalie I had seen/never seen them before. They became more well known afterwards.

Some people in small roles did go on to do bigger things...Keira Knightley, Rose Byrne, Joel Edgerton...

I think Boyega is pretty much where McGregor was back in the 1990s, coming off of a hot movie like Trainspotting. Maybe with a couple extra years in between before the casting.

Lucas says that now but the bottom line is had Al Pacino said yes then this conversation would be moot and the flag flying for "We find and nurture stars" wouldn't exist. Ewan McGregor was a highly respected actor before Star Wars and Natalie Portman already had an iconic role under her belt, they gave cred to the casting not the other way around. Hayden was the only one in the PT that was unknown and I think most agree Lucas should have went for DiCaprio instead of trying to pull a Reeve out of the hat.

I'll hand it to JJ and his PR crew though, between the OT pandering and this revisionist guff he is winning over all the PT haters.

Well if they had yes, but SW did go for a lot of unknowns. Nat and Ewan may have been some what known, but I don't they were "blockbuster" type of stuff at the time.

I see lots of SW fans excited, not just OT fans.

The reason for going for the unknowns is where the falsehood lies IMO. Like I say neither were stars per se but both were red hot young indie actors at the time, it was not a case of taking a risk.

That wasn't what I was saying though Solidus, I was merely commenting on how well the calculated strategy of JJ and co has worked on the jaded 35-40 year old "Lucas raped my childhood" OT fanbase.

Well, I guess I see where your coming from, but still see it a tad differently.

And I know a lot of people like myself that did not care for the PT, but never went to those extremes of George "raping" kind of stuff.

Actually one thing that showed my fellow OT fans that even the PT lore could be good was me showing them TCW in the past year.

I am one of those fans. I didn't think the prequels were great for two reasons, I think they chose the wrong actor for Anakin and Jar Jar. They weren't awful though. Ewan did as good of a job as Obi Wan as Alec Guiness.

To me the entire prequel was like BTTF 3 or Toy Story 2, good but not great.

I wasn't referring to yourself or other rational OT only fans though my friend, I was talking about that very strong hardcore section of which never stopped spewing bile for over a decade about the PT, they needed winning over and JJ has played them like fiddles IMO.

The Clone Wars is indeed a superb series that truly enriched the mythos.

To me it was not because it was new (TCW further proved that to me) or anything like that. As Mike Stoklassa said when it boiled down to it was just the writing/direction for me. I think there were shining aspects of it, and some great lore that TCW beautifully expanded. And I do agree Ewan was awesome. I would still love to see a spin-off with him playing Obi. Compared to the OT for me the PT is not the best. But it's far from the worst in terms of films.

But anywho back to the news that is real important. I'm glad Harrison is fine. I knew that Mark from Jedi News should never have reported that false story from The Sun. Sadly everyone picked it up. And at work I have people coming up to me saying "I hear Harrison will never walk again!" lol. Funny how that travels quickly. But this just confirms it will only have a 2 week delay on filming, other than that, they seem to be golden.

I understand bud. I think JJ will bring new and old together into a next generation (no Trek pun intended). I just can't wait to start getting screen shots. Even though Kevin Smith is so hyperbolic, I admit watching that video of him today...he really liked what he saw. *crosses fingers that I win that competition to get on set*

Well, there are hardcore "Set in their ways" types in other places as well. That's one of the reasons behind the unnecessary nonsense known as "The Comic Book Studio Wars" that festers on this forum and on other sites.

BBC News - Is Star Wars filming in Forest of Dean?

Excitement is mounting in the West Country as tourist attractions in the surrounding area are hoping that the new Star Wars film will be shot nearby.

BBC Reporter Steve Knibbs went to Puzzlewood in the Forest of Dean where film crews appear to be assembling although nobody would confirm or deny these rumours.

Filming for all six previous films in the franchise has been done in the UK.

In case anyone has forgotten, they were targetting brunettes that look like Carrie Fisher at the open auditions, as well as girls of a minority background.

Now, the Star Wars information you’ve been waiting for:

So, you know that Rachel character they were holding these casting calls for? That mysterious lead role? She’s definitely going to be a small brunette. And the girls I saw get pulled for a callback definitely shared some physical features with Carrie Fisher. Just sayin’.

http://nerdybutflirty.com/2013/11/2...and-thomas-the-star-wars-cattle-call-debacle/

They had pulled just three people out of our back two hundred or so: a Donald Glover lookalike, a six-foot-plus young man with dark hair and a considerable jaw, and a short brunette that bore a passing resemblance to Carrie Fisher.
