If there is a GB3 and the original cast are involved, as much as I love these guys, I do not want to see a bunch of 60 somethings, in the entire film, running around trying to act like they are in their mid 30's still.
I'd like to see some kind of handover to younger team members, perhaps getting Dana`s son in on the action as a team member, maybe the leader. With the original team still being around in a helping out capacity, but one which is vital to the plot/story.
Perhaps even getting them to take centre stage in the climax, because the new recruits are somehow overwhelmed by the unfolding events due to their being a bit green. The old guys step up to the plate, defeat the monster. New York is saved once again.
But the original team don't want to keep doing this and at the end officially hand over to the new guys, saying something like, "we're always around if you need us...but you're ready now."
(Along the way, kill Venkman, so that we get Bill Murray to reprise his role one last time)
Then the ground is laid for GB4 to have fresh blood only.
I know there's not much specific detail above, but hopefully you get where I'm coming from.
I wrote an almost identical post earlier, but with a little more detail. Again, I say add the characters from Extreme Ghostbusters to the mix. Then the originals retire to strictly administrative/mentoring roles. I don't know about killing Venkman though, unless that's Bill Murray's condition for returning to the role.
