He looks really, really good. It didn't take me out of the movie like, let's say, Leia in Rogue One. None of that. He looked like he did around 2010.

One fanboy complaint I do have is that despite getting a lot of fan service in there, Afterlife does completely clash with the plot of the video game. Perhaps a big ask, but I would have liked for them to coexist harmoniously.

I think while they don't really address the events of GB2, nothing outright contradicts in the film right? Wasn't there a line that they stopped working after '89?

I think it's safe to say though that the Ghostbusters videogame is no longer canon sadly.

I think besides the technology just being in a better place five years on, what helped is that they (with good reason) didn't give him any dialogue.

Yeah I was hoping there'd be a reference to the game that made it canon, especially since it was Ramis's final performance as Egon. But I suppose now that we have an official Ghostbusters 3 with Afterlife, the game doesn't need to serve that purpose anymore and can just be a fun side story, even if it isn't canon.

If it weren't for Ray's Occult Bookstore, one could assume that they'd have scrapped Ghostbusters 2 from the canon entirely. It would have been cool to see a few more references, for example the GB2 jumpsuits could have showed up in Egon's basement or something.

Word on BOT is 15-16 million for today, so 40 for the OW looks like a lock. Considering everything (pandemic etc.) it’s a great result.

Saw this movie today (second one in theaters after Shang-Chi). Like a lot of movies this year, it was good but not great. Still, it was leaps and bounds better than the 2016 movie. For me, the third act was the best and felt the most like a Ghostbusters movie. I thought the first two acts were a bit boring. I’m getting tired of the trope where the kids act smarter than the adults. To be honest, I wish this was a real direct sequel to the ghostbusters films, in that Aykroyd and Murray would be the main characters again and not just cameos. I wish those last 10 minutes of the movie was the WHOLE movie. Overall, I’d give it 6.5/10

Saw this movie today (second one in theaters after Shang-Chi). Like a lot of movies this year, it was good but not great. Still, it was leaps and bounds better than the 2016 movie. For me, the third act was the best and felt the most like a Ghostbusters movie. I thought the first two acts were a bit boring. I'm rather astounded this is sitting at 62% on RT. Not that RT ever really mattered, but...really? I mean, I get it. If I was a fan of the 2016 film I would probably be bitter about this film's existence too. And I get that there are some legitimate criticisms to be had. But you can't convince me that lingering feelings about 2016 are not coloring the reviews, for at least some of the negative ones. Maybe people are just a bit franchise nostalgia'd out and took it out on this film. I don't know. But I firmly believe that if this movie came out in 2016 I instead of what we got it then it would be sitting at least in the 80s right now. It's too bad because I think this movie provides a warm and fuzzy feeling (along with some good laughs) that everyone could use right now. It's come at a perfect time if you ask me. Jason Reitman directed the heck out of this and it just feels like such a lovingly crafted film. I have so many more thoughts but still processing everything. Can't wait to see this at least once more in theaters and add it to my 4k collection.

Problem with that? I have seen that movie,TWICE! Back in the 80's.And the second dip in that pool left me Really Cold.

Y'know, despite my constant bashing of his reboot, it's nice to see Paul Feig enjoyed Jason's movie and is being a good sport about all this. Feig's not a bad director at all; I just never felt he was right for this particular series. I'm curious as to what his "Monster War" movie for Universal is gonna be. But yeah, glad to see he's not bashing Afterlife despite his plans for sequels going under.

Correct. I just don't think they bring up Vigo because a lot of people don't really like the plot that was centered on him in GB2. And I kinda agree: say if his plan to possess Oscar succeeded......then what? Would he have rapidly aged up to an adult at full power or would poor Dana been stuck with an evil baby to raise? Because the second one would've been awkward. Hell, The Tick (the 90s cartoon one) kinda made fun of that bit.

As for Gozer being back, I though it made 100% sense. Ivo Shandor and his cult had built a second gate as a back-up in case the one in NYC failed (and it did thank to the OG team) and it helped that the first movie NEVER outright said Gozer was destroyed. All they did was blow up the NYC gateway and deep-fried Stay Puft. Hence why Gozer never tries a Destroyer-form again this time around; it's weaker than last time. It had been feeding off of nearly a century's worth of ghost energy in NYC; this was a small rural town that didn't have as many ghosts. Plus Egon meddling in the cult's affairs didn't help matters for gaining power. That way, this movie did its own thing with the climax instead of trying to replicate the first movie's ending (The use of practical effects on the dogs and Gozer's 'outfit' was cool, btw).

But yeah, LOVED this new movie. This is what we should've gotten 5 years ago. I really hope this does well enough to warrant sequels.

I too wish the 2009 game would have been kept canon. But considering you also fight both Gozer AND Ivo Shandor in the game, it would contradict Afterlife.

Hopefully if a next film happens they can take some ideas from the 2009 game to use in the film
