Yeah, it would be out of character to make Finn's death drug-related when we've been given absolutely no indication that he was a drug-abuser.
Can they not just have him be alive on the show but not seen?

There's never been the slightest allusion to Finn being a drug addict, so having him die of a drug overdose would be pretty contrived, IMO.
Finn doesn't need to equal Cory.
I'd rather they just have some simple throwaway explanation like a car accident.
Also, if we're gonna have drug PSAs, I think it'd be more appropriate for the cast to do those after the episode if they wish than to retcon Finn into being a drug addict.
Finn is not Cory and Cory is not Finn.If they want to do a death that is more peaceful and how they wished it could have been more like. Or if honoring him means a cautionary tale to others...
