The pilot didn't have too many characters, it's just some were shoehorned into it as a wink/wink.Quoted for truth. Yeah, we fans know how important Ivy will become so it was a true geek moment. But the few minutes she was on stage didn't overcrowd the story, lol. Most people probably didn't even get the connection. You look at any noir police procedural and you'll likely find the same number of characters. Good cops. Bad cops. Mobsters. Villains. And villain wannabes. In another noir project, the rogues wouldn't be world-famous classic batman villains. Etc., etc.
The pilot wasn't overcrowded at all. I watched a second time and loved it even better. As someone had pointed out, Bruce appropriately screams after his parents are murdered but then starts turning inward in later scenes, eerily calm and already on track to become the emotional mutant Bruce will evolve into.
I also believe peeps are being too harsh on the actress playing Barbara. I thoroughly enjoyed every scene she was in.
Can't wait for next ep!

That's your opinion, and one that is easily dispelled/countered by the PTBs themselves and the way in which they talk about the series.
If you think they didnt shoe horn some of these future villians into the pilot your dellusional. They clearly did that to get high ratings for the pilot.
^ It stands for 'Powers that Be', and is a colloquial term for the producers/showrunner(s) of a given television series. The term originated on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer spinoff ANGEL (where it referred to the mysterious 'higher power(s)' that were sending Angel the visions he used to help people and atone for his past sins), with fans of the series being the first to apply it in its colloquial form (as far as I'm aware, anyway).
or will they if ratings start to slide will they do it again? Im sure there be alot of fall off from this week to next week. We all know the studio will demand some well known villians to get fans to stay.
Sure. But it doesn't make it right or good because they said that's how it needs to be. If that's the mindset then everything is well done if they said it's well done. "The powers that be said they're not shoehorned so everyone must agree that they're not shoehorned". That's kinda stupid no?That's your opinion, and one that is easily dispelled/countered by the PTBs themselves and the way in which they talk about the series.
Exactly. Every person i talk to, on or off the computer, out of my friends who i dont discuss this show with at all beforehand, others on other forums who are simply fans of film and tv that were curious to see if it was good (no hidden agendas)..EVERYONE has told me the same thing. That the Nygma and Ivy scenes, and Selina as well, were forced into it so hard.If you think they didnt shoe horn some of these future villians into the pilot your dellusional. I thought she was a little off. But I think that was intentional. She has secrets.
The actress playing Barbara has a slight airhead type voice and I'm thinking that might've turned some off. But some girls naturally speak in that tone and when they look like that actress, lots of men sure do love them! I didn't find anything unbelievable about her performance or her relationship with Gordon (or even her supposed past relationship with the female cop). Actually, if it turns out they were lesbian lovers, that's a nice nod to Batwoman from the books. It's a different character, and I don't think the actress will ever play Batwoman, but still a nod to the Bat Universe.

How important Ivy will become? I've never seen that character as "important" to the mythology.
Bruce wasn't "eerily calm" at all. I dont know how you see that. And i just felt felt like the actress playing Barbara was bad. It felt like a model or a soap opera actress/character. Montoya and Allen on the other hand, i had no problems with.
I saw it a second time, and i enjoyed the episode a little more. But i had to tune my eyes and ears to the hammy performances. I may have enjoyed the episode more but i still think the acting was pretty bad throughout the show. For about 90 percent of the characters.
Isn't the cop supposed to be a lesbian in the Bat Universe?
The reason I think they crammed so many "villains" into the pilot is because we are going to have an in depth look at them through the course of the series. This week it was mostly Fish and Penguin. Next week Selina. Then at some point, the riddler, ivy etc...
This episode not only introduced us to the characters but also introduced Jim to them. He knows Ivy and was partly responsible for her fathers death. You can see why he might look out for her in future.
Could they have left it till later in the series? Probably, but now it's out of the way.

I would suspect that fans were probably alot harder on the pilot than the average viewer was , but then again we are usually grade these things harder then the causal viewer.
I stopped reading the new 52 Batwoman book and can't remember. But Batwoman is def gay.
