Gotham Gotham Season 1, Episode 10 "LoveCraft" General Discussion

The girl playing Ivy was excellent. She delivered the lines so well and the creepy factor was unnerving.

What was significant about the sliver box that Selina took?

I really like the Bruce Wayne storyline. It gives the viewer a break from the grime and corruption of Gotham. I want to see more of the Wayne Manor grounds.

Keep that s*** in mind when you meet Talia, Bruce. :o

I'm waiting to see if they show him finding the cave.
(BTW, agree about Ivy. Wonderfully creepy)

I think the cave discovery might be an end-of-season-finale moment. Have Gordon finally apprehend Joe Chill, that door closes (somewhat) for Bruce, and this whole other one opens.

This show is so much better when its focused on bruce not gordon.

The young actor and producers have NAILED what a young Batman should be like.

Very analytical, brave, risk taking, moral.

Really enjoy him.

Gordon's hammy acting just gives me flashbacks of whatever crappy show he was on a few years back. One Tree Hill or some ****. Give it up Jim, your Dark Knight voice isn't scaring anyone.

Did anyone notice how much of the fight in Lovecraft's apartment involved his stunt double? What a princess! :)

Really hinting towards the League and Ras being the big bad here aren't they? Or is that a misdirect from Falcone (who was great in this ep too)?

Gordon was choked by Copperhead. When she tried the same move on Alfred, he threw her away and fight two other killers before killing one. He's also the one who destroyed the gang in the hand. Badass Alfred is badass.

I don't know. Its decoration looked ancient Egyptian, though. Reminded me of how her cat in the future will be named Isis. Not sure if that's in any way meaningful.

I'm just glad we're getting to see more of the house outside of the study.

I kinda wonder if a show with the complete focus on "young bruce" would be more welcomed.I know Kevin Smith and Paul Dini had a riff going on how they'd do that kinda show.(Basically, all Bruce's foes end up being his classmates, instead of 10+ years older than him.) On the plus side,it would arguably be more faithful and probably more interesting as a character study. Negatives would be no action (beyond a schoolyard fight,I guess) and more "CW" style relationships between characters.

A high school version of Batman? Geez that sounds like it would be terrible. Gotham's taking obvious liberties with the time-line and age of some of the rogues gallery already, it'll be interesting to see how long they can keep it going for. They can't move too fast because Bruce is only supposed to don the cowl in his early 20s but if they move too slow people might lose interest. So far it's looking good though. I wonder if they're going to make Bruce do detective stuff now already, I've got a feeling that'll happen pretty soon. Him and Selina going on capers to catch small time crooks or whatnot.

I bet we'll see him running around in a balaclava in a coming season.

I hope not. A couple of things related to his parents' murder and Selina bringing assassins to Wayne manor might fly but if Bruce starts coming up against kid/adult versions of the rogues gallery it's going to be a little weird. They should focus on Bruce's growth and development and his beliefs. Or they should just be honest that they're going for a kid version of Batman, and not sell it under this whole "Bruce as he's growing up to become Batman" thing.

Great episode. It was fun seeing Alfred as both a badass and a smooth talker :woot:
Ivy's scene was creepy and funny at the same time. Seeing Gordon at Arkham is gonna be plenty interesting.

These past few eps have only confirmed this in my mind as well. The original plan was to focus on Gordon and the upcoming villains. I guess, the producers can tweak the show and give both Gordon and Bruce equal screen time due to audience reception to young Bruce.

I don't think they've really shifted anything. The turning point for the show was episode 7 and that was almost 100% Gordon and Bruce was in one scene.

I think there's been a shift in the quality of the writing from Penguin Umbrella on. It'd be hard to argue that the early episode are anywhere near the quality of the most recent ones . The dialog and the plots have definitely improved, and it does seem that at least for now, they've shifted away from the more Burton/Schumacer quirky /campy stuff and have gone closer to Nolan and Dini.

I find that silly. Do you think they have enough footage to make changes like that months after filming the episode?

Can people not acknowledge that they probably had this planned? Developing characters in rotation.

Anything to justify your initial doubt about the show, I suppose.

Jeez, can you and Sawyer actually read? I said they 'can tweak' as in, for future eps, tweak the show to be more Bruce and Gordon focused, due to the fan/critic reception of these past few eps. I didn't say anything about these past few eps being the ones that were tweaked….

Another good episode.

Bad-ass Alfred, and Selina "stealing" Bruce's first kiss.
I thought to myself "It's about time!!"

Kind of surprised that they shipped Gordon off to Arkham, though.
That should be a very interesting episode. :)

I hope he stays there for a few episodes before he's brought back as a detective.

The opening scene with the kids was probably their best so far. This was the first time I didn't find them annoying. This was Sean Pertwee's best episode yet. It's always nice to see Alfred kick some ass and I liked seeing him yell at Gordon and Bullock. Gordon was great during the scene in the Mayor's office. Looking forward to developing Arkham Asylum.

Excellent episode. Definitely one of the best.

It was wonderful to see Alfred kicking ass and taking names throughout this episode. I think we were all a little too quick to judge this version of Alfred early in the season. While he came across as very cold, the writers have proven just how much he cares for Bruce (and Bruce for him). I also enjoyed seeing Alfred and Bullock teaming up as both Pertwee and Logue had great chemistry.

As always the two young actors held their own remarkably well, without being annoying. They have created a pitch perfect Bruce and it contrasts brilliantly with the street wise Selina. I just wonder how far they'll take the little romance?

I'm not 100% sure about the whole Arkham guard development for Gordon. I actually really like the partnership between him and Bullock and I don't want to see that sacrificed too much. Hopefully, they'll work in secret moving forward, but I can't see any real motivation for Bullock to do such a thing. Let's hope the producers know what they are doing.

We're finally seing Falcone as more of a true threat in this episode, not just the aging guy fawning over chickens. This shows exactly how he got to the top of the food chain and I'm sure he's rattled Fish quite a bit.

Great fall finale.
