HBO's True Detective - Part 1

It's stupid to assume he's going to veer from the script and go funny.

I don't think he will go full ****** funny.

However, I think it is stupid to think that he will not try and add humor in some scenes. He can't help himself! :word:

havent seen his recent movies?

No....haven't been interested in seeing him in anything in awhile since he stopped acting per say. I'm rooting for him to do well in this though. We shall see....

Does anyone know if these dudes go audition or does the HBO/Nic go to them?

Not sure about the second season, but at least for the first, Nic approached both Mcconaughey and Harrelson before even going to HBO, so I am assuming they didn't have to audition.

Vince wagon will do great. I think it's a very interesting choice to put someone most well known for his comedic chops in such a serious show.

So you're saying that despite being hired for a lead in a crime drama, he is going to act unprofessional and add comedy to the character...? Let's all hope he gets a guest spot on Law and Order SVU. The funs will be reals! :o

*sigh* I swear.....some of the things I read in this thread sometimes. If it's not the wildy unrealistic dream casting of Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul to now the claims that Vince Vaughn will most assuredly bring a comedic edge to the show because he just DGAF.

:whatever:

Apparently, Vince Wagon only agreed to take the part if his character can fart during interrogation scenes.

I'm okay with Farrell being cast...but I'm a bit worried about Vaughn. He hasn't played it straight for awhile. Hope he doesn't force his comedy in scenes where it is not called for.

Vaughn did a lot of dramatic stuff early on. A Cool Dry Place, Return to Paradise, The Cell. It was when Wedding Crashers was a major hit is when he started doing horrible comedies.

This all sounds very familiar. Weren't we saying the exact same things about McConaughey four years ago? A guy who got pigeonholed in comedies and wasn't "a serious actor anymore," or "who can't act?"

Comedic actors are known for their strengths in drama. Just because the guy hasn't done drama in a while doesn't mean he's going to flop. Like I said previously, I really love the underdog component to this season thus far. I creates a whole new slew of expectations for the show instead of just comparing themselves to McConaughey and Harrelson.

My major hope it when this whole show is done, we can have multiple great seasons that are incredible for their own reasons and stand a part. Not to be constantly compared to.

But this is all assuming season 2 is great. If this fails, then the comparisons will be inevitable.

Great news about McAdams too. Hopefully this role dispels the accusations of misogyny of Pizzolatto. Which is sad because one of last season's major themes was misogyny. Pizzolatto did a great job conveying this too but that seemed to be overlooked by the criticisms of the show lacking strong female leads. It seemed to be misconstrued and turned around on him.

I find it astonishing a lot of people on twitter can't tell the difference between Rachel McAdams and Amy Adams. They kept saying Amy Adams is one of the leads in True Detective season 2.:funny:

Anyhoo McAdams is good choice.

I approve of this message.

I wasn't. I saw both The Lincoln Lawyer and Killer Joe and was blown away by his performances. Actually, I had just seen Killer Joe right before they announced this show and was thrilled he was going to be involved because of the job he did in that role.

Now if Owen Wilson can join, we can get a Wedding Crashers reunion...

The McAdams article said it was a given that Kitsch is a shoe in for the last lead role.

McAdams is great, but you know how it is, you get attached to your person choice for the role. Really wanted Brit Marling. But McAdams is still very nice.

Well, the Lincoln Lawyer was the start of his rise from the ashes, along with Mud and Killer Joe. I think True Detective and Dallas Buyers Club cemented him as a legit star again.
