HBO's True Detective - Part 2

That Lebowski aspect was more or less spitballing but it's something that at least interests him, so as far as we know at this point, that may or may not even make it in. But I'd love to see something like a folk tale Coen Brothers-esque type thing.

I don't want the occult to be back. We don't need it. Suddenly the occult equates to a good season of True Detective? That's just an element. Just because things didn't work in season 2 does not mean you have to go back to the things that made season one work. It will just give even more comparisons to the first season and seeing how season 2 was nothing like season one and it still did, it's just not a good idea. It just fit with the story and the themes that were going on and I don't want him to start from the occult first. The occult aspect is not a mainstay of this concept, the characters and what they exude are. I do think season one was lightening in a bottle. Honestly, I don't care even if this season got more praise, the first season is just like Raiders of the Lost Ark. Lightening in a bottle. And Pizzolatto went Temple of Doom. Not everybody loved it. Maybe it can achieve a Last Crusade where it's said to be as good or better but without the pandering that Spielberg forced into that movie. Perhaps Pizzolatto has to find his Henry Jones Sr.

Most likely he's not going to listen to what people on the internet said about this season. Honestly, if I were him, I wouldn't either. As best intentioned some people are with their opinions, it's not healthy to get caught up in that. Best case scenario if people really want to love this show again Pizzolatto needs to just create a story in his best interests and see if it flies. If it'll have season one reception who knows but he shouldn't be concerned with that. The impact of this season he couldn't control. He just wrote what he thought was compelling. And if some people didn't like that, as a shame as that is, he isn't doing things to serve everybody first and foremost and that is to be respected. Next season shouldn't be treated any differently. He himself as a writer will use his best judgement and the people he trusts around him and be honest with what he could improve on/do differently.

I don't want S3 to be anything like the first two. Pizzolatto pissed off a lot of critics/detractors last year when he said he'll listen to the writer of Thelma & Louise's opinion before someone with a wi-fi connection, and that he isn't in the "service business." I don't expect him to pander.

To be honest he wasn't that tactful there, but at the same time there was unwarranted criticism in the first place with those regards, so if people are getting the wrong idea behind what he's writing and his intentions, of course he's going to defend his work and be honest about it, hence those comments which just made the press hate him even more. He gave them what they wanted in a way. More fuel for their fire. They were very unfair to him in the first place. Looking for things that weren't there to begin with or just read into it the wrong way.

That was hilarious! Amazing and true. I honestly only pay close attention to artists who have that mentality anyway. He just went out and said it out loud. It reminds me of a band who puts out their first record, to critical acclaim. Fans worship it. Then they put out a very different second record, on purpose, and the fans get all pissed off. It's really funny to me when i see a fanbase get annoyed when their new favorite artist isn't doing what they wanted, or not repeating what they originally loved.

I think anybody who is expecting more occult with this show, will be disappointed. Let the occult live within the first season.

Season 1 was southern gothic. Season 2 was LA noir. Season 3 will be something else. We already know that Nic Pizzolatto wants the third season to be a Big Lebowski like partnership. That may or may not happen in the end, but im going to assume that more comedy will be thrown into the mix next time. The story will probably fit that kind of thing.

This season was supposed to be about 3 female cops and the secret occult of the transportation system in the U.S. and it ended up being a noir story. So the big Lebowski thing might not happen but who knows. A dark comedy crime drama could work too and be cool to see.

I don't think the three female cops thing was ever in the cards? Pizzolatto just said it had three leads and the occult transportation system thing.

He did say something about hard women. I'm cool with whatever he does, just want season 3 to be good that's all.

Wonder if Pizzolatto is looking to get legit Hollywood talent's for season 3 again or not? Maybe try a different approach?

If that's something he's concerning himself with, I think he's really focusing on the wrong stuff.

Oh I agree with ya most definitely but was a thought I had if he was looking to get that level of actors again or try something a bit different and go with so called TV actors.

He can continue to go with the Hollywood actors. But going indie isn't a bad thing neither.

I'm sure the leads will once again be well-known actors. Maybe not creme de la creme, but definitely known and talented.

I read the Slate article. I missed A LOT due to boredom is seems.
I read it too and WOW. I also missed a lot too. Thanks for mentioning the article, I'd never heard of it before.

I like getting well known actors. But I'm totally fine if they're not. Just tell a good story. Hopefully they will not have so many subplots. Keep the layers but tighten the story. And I love the tone of the show

Regardless of my thoughts on the season as a whole, they did have some damn good music.

True Detective Twin Peaks style and vice versa.

I think Lera Lynn really captures the essence of the entire show. Someday when all of the seasons will be out, someone will cut a montage with all of the season's footage using her music.

just finished season 2. havent seen season 1 yet. It was ****ing rad.

I'm thinking it will premiere next fall. Seeing how it took 15 months between seasons 1 and 2, could be a similar thing. But I'm willing to wait longer if Pizzolatto and HBO agree to push it at a later date.
