HBO's True Detective - Part 2

I would like the 3rd season to go back to 2 detectives with 12 episodes instead of 8. Can do more with 12 episodes than only 8 anyways.

lol no. A short order of episodes is the least of this season's problems. Eight is fine.

this might be a stupid question but... why exactly was the episode called "church in ruins"?

Blake's last name is Churchman...not sure if that's significant.

Who the hell is Blake, again?

Outside of Ani's stupid name and "Velcro", I don't care enough or they haven't tried to make me remember any of the names this season.

While last year, I was baited on every word for a clue or for knowledge.

Blake is Frank's redheaded goon, the one moonlighting as a pimp along with Tony Chessani. Viewers have speculated that he might be the guy who raped Ray's wife, or was at least carrying on an affair with her prior to Chad's birth. I can't see how he could be considered "in ruins" in this episode but I thought I'd throw his name out there.

I like this season.

Just because it's not as good as the first season does not by any means make it even below average. It's fantastic in its acting, its script and its cinematography. I'm not as enthralled as the first season, but it's a moot point.

The show is still solid, hope stupidity of the over-reactors doesnt get the damn thing cancelled.

And I agree 8 episodes is fine.

It's below average because of its below average script, plotting, and execution. It's scatterbrained and lacks focus. And that would be the case even if the first season had been ****. The first season is irrelevant to my opinions of this season.

This season has problems. It's not our fault, and if it gets canceled it won't be anyone's fault but the the showrunner's. If you like it good for you. There are things I've liked about this season, but it's nothing special. If this is the last season it will be unfortunate, because I don't want it to go out like this, but it's their own damn fault if it does.

I'm pretty confident it will get a third season. A mixed response doesn't really justify cancellation just because it isn't as good as the first season. That's a pretty foolish basis.

Good or bad response is irrelevant, all that matters is ratings and how much it costs to produce, same as any TV show.

HBO execs say they want a third season. The advantage the show has is that each season is basically a reboot. With a new cast people will be curious enough to tune in.

I think Miguel Sapochnik (director of S2 E6) would be a great pick to direct all 8 episodes of a third season. "Church in Ruins" is one the best episodes of the whole series.

For a third season, I'd love to see an older detective team up with a younger detective. For the older detective, someone like Bill Paxton, J.K. Simmons or Geena Davis. For a younger detective, I'm thinking someone like Garrett Hedlund, Anna Kendrick or Boyd Holbrook.

Plus, I would love to see the mystery be around the death of a cop.

I kind of wish the storyline for the film "Narc" could be used for a third season.
Hell yes to JK being on the show.

Someone like Anna Kendrick might be interesting in terms of seeing her do something real dramatic compared to some of her other work as of late like Pitch Perfect. I'd like to see someone like Lucy Liu too perhaps, even though she's much older than Kendrick.

But yeah, an anthology like TD makes the casting really fun to think about. Hopefully we do get a S3, unless Pizzolatto wants to go back to teaching or something.

Pizzolatto was pretty miserable teaching because he doesn't like bureaucracy and feels before he left it education wasn't serving students educationally just self serving institutions for the sake of profit i.e. dumbing things down (which is a sad truth). I mean it'd be humiliating to go from tv showruner to a full time college professor for the rest of his life.

I just hope Pizzolatto sticks to his guns and just writes what he wants. I hope his approach from season one and two didn't change in how he went about writing to what he wants to see in going into writing season three. I do think Pizzolatto's writing hasn't changed and the same writing we see from season two is that of the same writer's instincts from season one. It really shouldn't change for next season just because some people didn't like it. He should just trust his instincts and be honest with himself. Any writer writes what they want to see and then hopes for the best. You can't control outcome. I'd like to think he wrote the same way he did as last season and it just so happened this season just didn't catch on as well as the last. It happens with all creative people. So there's always a chance season three's reception could be better than this season's, or it could be the same response as this season. But people would still call him a hack and like to knock him down and pretend season one just became great all by itself. It's amazing what people will do in response when they're disappointed by just one thing after the last thing blew their minds. It's reminiscent of the movie mentality. One strike and you're out. Not that I'm saying this is going on here in this thread at all, I've seen fair opinions and no indication of the aforementioned, but I'm just talking of the internet in general.

Its a bit different with premium cable shows. Premium channels don't make money off of ads. They have no ad space to sell. They make their money off of subscribers. So that's what they look at. Is a particular show bringing in new subscribers each season. So if a show stalls out and isn't bringing in new subscribers and they can't justify the budget they will cut the show. Its still about viewer numbers, but for different reasons.

Is anyone watching this episode? Damn. Where is everyone?

There is some **** going down this episode

Ya it is. Frank was freakin' intense tonight. He was DGAF'ing all over the place.

Man that sucks about Woodrough though. Was really pulling for him to see things thru.
