Rewatching the movie, I think Manganiello and Hammer both could've done well in the role, it wasn't a difficult role from an acting standpoint, but visually Cavill was the best choice by a mile.
the presence was an important part of acting too and Cavill has it.. the dialogue he had he done pretty great IMO BUT YEAH HE HAS potential for FUTURE movies Cavill will own the role IMO...

Yeah for right now, Cavill is my favorite Superman visually. But Reeve is still my favorite, just because we got to know his Superman a lot better, and he had material in his movies that made me like his character more. I'm positive Cavill will overtake Reeve as my favorite, but we need another movie for that

Personally, I don't think Hammer, and especially Manganiello, would've been as good as Henry. There were some difficult scenes (like the ending with Zod...that scream from Cavill was filled with such emotion). And pa Kent's death. Even if you don't like how he died, Cavill's look of heartbreak was spot-on. Many scenes were subtle and Cavill was so good with communicating with facial expressions and body language. His Clark was really holding back a lot and was a reserved person. Cavill captured that perfectly. Even when he wasn't speaking, he was always doing something and communicating something. But the key is people have to pay attention to his performance because it's subtle. If people just brush him off and just assume he's not doing anything because he's not speaking, they'll miss a lot. Having said that, I hope they throw more at him in the next movie, because I think he can handle it. I'm especially excited to see what he does with the Metropolis Clark persona. We really haven't seen that yet.

i don't think either mags or hammer would have been near as good, though that scene was zod at the end, bothered me. i wish he had shown a little more sadness then just the scream he let out. i think it would have muted alot of the criticism about that scene in particular.

I agree they could have shown more, but I don't think it was Cavill's fault. The scene was cut off too soon. Like many scenes, they didn't give it enough time to sink in. They needed to show what happened right after Supes clings to Lois. But they didn't. Cavill made the most out of each scene he was in, but he could definitely have more to work with.

i think something like jim stark's (james dean) reaction in 'rebel without a cause' to the death of plato would have been good way to show him deal with the end of it all. maybe you're right. perhaps it was a directorial decision.

I think they should have had another scene after Supes is with Lois that shows him dealing with the destruction outside before they showed him with Swanwick/Ma Kent. There was a weird time skip there that undercuts both scenes.

That uppercut!! superman has it in his mind yet... :woot:

WOW! This is killing me. How many DAMN days? I knew this would look insanely GOOD on the Blu-Ray versus the big-screen where everything is wide open. Those gifs are amazing.

You're right, it definitely is the right look for Superman. And re which look women prefer, I'm not sure 'most' prefer Immortals...all my female friends love Henry and about 75% prefer him huge and hairy rather than leaner and smooth - including me! It's the younger ones who seem to prefer the immortals look as well!

Thanks for those pics you posted - even though I've seen MOS several times and know how huge he was, sometimes it still strikes me and in those photos he's enormous!!! He is clearly working hard to get back into that shape now - these are pics from him working out this evening!!!

Yep, too much. It's not ugly, but I'm just like "he could crush me if we were making love" :woot: Then I remember this scene with Eddy Murphy's doctor...

Oh, it's embarrassing...But he looks so muscled...
I understand what we can find handsome with haired men, and I have nothing against henry's hairs.
It's masculine :) But he doesn't need to look like a cavern man :D

However, when he wears the suit, he's sooooooooooooooooooooo Hoooooooooooooooooot that I can't put enough "o" in "hot" to express my feeling.

And Tom Welling is single now!!! Well, I shouldn't be so happy but I am. Justin Hartley too (green arrow)/
I'm soooo happy righ now xD Oh, I feel like I'm a *****...

I envy your seeming inability to become bored with material you've grown accustomed to. In my experience, if or when I watch something too many times, the magic sort of fades.

I can do that too. The only problem is the special effects.
The movie of yesterday were awful.
But I still like watching "Fantagharo". :D
And Sailor Moon... well, it's better to do this with an anime.

Erica Durance sometimes pulled the limelight off of Tom Welling, even though he was the star. However Henry is so much better than Tom at acting imagine if it were Henry and Erica in a scene together!!! :D

Tom isn't very good but not terrible either.
Well, with red kryptonite on, he's GREAT. :hrt:
Anyways, there aren't lots of skills required to be Superman in Smallville.
With his lines, Tom could be a bit surprised, sometimes a bit angry, but...with his character being correct in almost 100% of his scenes, it's hard to really show an acting ability...
Even in the anime, I've never found Superman/Clark had lots of emotions.
Batman could be tortured, oppressed, crazy at times, but Superman is jsut the most powerful alien ever, always calms and wise, with his crossed arms...
(at least, it's what it seems to me)

And I would like to see Erica durance and Henry together in a scene.
They could match...
Though I'd better see Henry in a scene with Gina, his ex, to check if they have a good chemistry together... I want to see a preview since some people spread the rumor about Gina as WW.

Or he could be great in a scene with another brunette.
Megan Fox? (not Nina Dobrev, that was strange at the MTV awards)
Kate Middleton? (not a star but she could be, she's pretty :hrt: ) In IRL, I think they could match!

Welling had a bigger demographic than Cavill has.

If you want my opinion, there are some things that Welling has got bigger than Cavill...

Hem. You remember we were talking about a certain coldpiece?

I hope they change the suit a little. He needs some red or a brighter yellow to split up the bottom and the top. It just get's a little boring. And really it would great if they could fit on that yellow S onto the cape.

^ I, on the other hand, hope they don't change the suit at all. Just because Superman isn't the type to upgrade his suit a la Batman and Iron Man. If they make improvements to the thing, it should be as subtle as the differences between the Raimi Spider-Man suits.

I say that in spite of still missing the original suit, too (though I love this one).

Agreed.

^Why does Henry KEEP trolling us with the curl on his forehead? haha

I think so too. The role, as it exists on the paper, is actually quite thin and under-written. There isn't much to play. So Cavill could only do so much with what was presented.

I yet think Hammer wouldn't have been able to pull it off. I simply don't see that kind of brutality or intimidation in him to pull of the action persona. Manganiello might have easily done it but he has the physique of Superman, not the face. Cavill has the face in addition to the physique so he's a better choice than those two.

The suit is a masterpiece, perfect in every imaginable way. The colors are also perfect on the suit. There was nothing wrong with the colors on the suit, but how it was photographed. The movie was shot with a very restrained color palette.

If you slightly up the saturation, the suit looks as amazing as you want it to.

Not sure I agree. I think Cavill conveyed quite a lot of sadness there. You can see the desperation in his eyes - almost pleading with Zod - just before he snaps Zod's neck. And immediately afterwards, just before he sinks to his knees and lets out that howl, he just looks horrified for a few seconds, as if he can't believe what he's just had to do.

Then of course, there's Lois' entrance shortly after this where he grips her waist while she hugs him and you can see him squeeze his fist and grimace a little more as he mentally deals with what just happened.

Asides from the roar here, Cavill did play it very subtle. And I think that was the right approach, he's someone who was brought up by Jonathan to hide parts of himself and it's still not natural for him to let it all out. When Jonathan died he cried out but didn't lose it completely (like roaring at the heavens and flying into space a la 1978 Superman), so I can't imagine he would have shown even more emotion for his enemy Zod.

On a side note, it's the little nuances above which showed me that killing Zod wasn't an easy thing to do for Superman. Lots of people obviously have issues with this ending but I think they handled it well.
