I grew up watching THE MAN FROM UNCLE.....so I'm looking forward to the new movie. From the trailers I've seen, I like the looks of it. I know some other old guys (like I am) who are also looking forward to it because they are fans of the original and this looks like a fun respectful retelling of the characters.

I've been meaning to watch the original.

Now that there is a new movie on the horizon, it makes me want to do so even more, as I like to do things like that. For example, just recently I watched the remake of "The Prisoner" alongside the original series.

Anyway, I'd find it quite odd for Guy Ritchie's movie to flop, especially post-"Rocknrolla" and "Sherlock Holmes".

I personally prefer his earlier work, but his most recent films have been much more commercially successful. Also, trailer's looking real good, everyone knows what to expect from Ritchie... I don't see the logic behind this movie flopping.

I think UNCLE would've been better off with a March/April release

San Andreas didn't review well and I had no interest in it but it was a hit after making 460mil on a 110mil dollar budget. It was more successful than Mad Max financially. Vacation did just greatly disappoint though. They didn't have any sure things this year so it's a mixed bag.

Ah, true, I forgot about San Andreas (probably because I had no interest in it, either :yay:) I guess I was thinking more along the lines of Magic Mike XXL, Entourage, and yes, now Vacation.

Magic Mike cost 14 million. It made money, it was a disappointment but a profit was made. I have no idea why an Entourage movie was even made and Vacation always sounded like an iffy project to me. Early buzz for Vacation was good though but nothing came of that early buzz. So yeah it hasn't been a great year for them but still way better than Sony's.

People keep talking about tracking but it wasn't very good this week. Vacation was tracking to do 30-40mil in five days and only did 21mil, Rogue Nation was tracking to do 40mil and did 56mil. Tracking has been really wonky.

WB still have to release in 2015:

Man from Uncle
Pan
Creed
In the Heart of the Sea
The 33 (Chilean miners story)
Point Break

And I'm sure a few others that skip me at this time. That's just WB not their subsidiary company New Line which also count's.

I think MFU and Pan are iffy and Point Break is a guaranteed bomb but Creed could do well and In the Heart of the Sea if they are good films. I don't know what to think of the 33 but I liked the real story quite a bit.

I hope UNCLE doesn't bomb. It actually looks like a good movie. Maybe word of mouth will give it a boost.

Of course, the trailers make everything look good, so maybe it's mediocre.

I don't think UNCLE has to blow the roof off of BO, it just has to cover expenses and have good word of mouth to be a decent sized hit. That alone would be good for Henry's career.

so how many it shall make in the opening weekend to be called a success? 30M? fair?

Depends on the budget

If it underperforms here hopefully it can do good business oversees

Can we not use that wording just due to the people who have actually been trying to do just that in movie theatres these days?

Henry and Beckham at (I think) Guy Ritchie's wedding. Another reason to watch Man from UNCLE - Beckham cameo. :D

Well, Man From Uncle had a budget of 75mil, thats not chump change. Deal is in Hollywood a film has to double it's budget to brake even.

Now for me, im an 80's baby, i was born in 1981, grew up watching the Munsters, I Love Lucy, Three's Company (my fav sitcom of all time), I Dream of Jeannie, Bewitched, Lassie, Superman with George Reeve, Batman with Adam West, The Brady Bunch, All the awesome stuff that sitcoms these days cannot compete with, ect!... But i have NEVER heard of "Man from Uncle", EVER!!!

This worries me a bit about this movie, i mean, i grew up watching everything and have never heard of this. What gets me is if i never heard about MFU, what is this generation of kids, teens, 20 somethings gonna think??? The title just sounds weird IMO, just not sure why WB would give the go ahead on something not so popular and well known in American Culture?!!!

That surprises the hell out of this 80's baby since it was a show in syndication all throughout the late 80's/early 90's. It was on TNT and other cable channels I would say well in to my high school years, and I graduated in '94.

I will agree that since then it's a franchise/IP that has lain fallow, and this is a big part of why it's tracking somewhat poorly now. You are right, in that no one born few born after '94 are in the know when it comes to Napoleon, Ilya and Mr. Waverly. That said... Two of it's three trailers are really good, the cast looks, I mean LITERALLY, looks gorgeous, and it gives off a fun vibe. I think it will require good WOM. And while 75mil. aint exactly chump change... In a world market it's not impossible for a film like MFU to do well even if it tanks in the U.S.

Well me and my family could not afford cable until around '93', maybe i missed that window? :(

I agree the cast looks great, the trailers are good, but not sure about the name and what this generation is gonna think about it?

As i said, i never heard of it, i grew up being baby-sitted at my grandmas house with a black and white TV loving and watching all of the older stuff loving all of it from 1yrs old to 10!!! Color TV was not in my Grandma's future, and with the 5 channels we had, we had all we needed at the time! lol

I feel MFU will Bomb, if it don't, and if its a good movie and gets some word of mouth (which IT WILL NEED), i will be more then happy to eat some crow! ;)

I wasn't planning on seeing this movie until I saw the trailer, it looks funny and interesting, I don't care about the original source.
