BvS Henry Cavill IS Superman - - - - - - - Part 21

Thing is, the tension between them started before Luthor delivered that line.

I totally concur with that. I think, for example, that the confrontation with Supes ripping the doors off the Batmobile takes place before the party scene. The party is the first time that their alters meet, but both know the others' true identity. It's just my crackpot theory but in case I have it right I'll wrap it in a spoiler tag:

Here is a succinct synopsis of my theory:

  • Lex knows that Superman is Clark Kent and Batman is Bruce Wayne because he's allied with Amanda Waller. That is, Lex has been contracted by the military to reverse-engineer Krytponian tech, and he has met with Amanda who is overseeing that military project.
  • Waller and Batman have both been mutually spying on one another for some time. That is how Bruce knows Superman is Clark Kent. Batman has had at least one run-in with Amanda Waller, and knows about A.R.G.U.S. and regards it as a threat.
  • Waller is behind the government asking Superman to "set limits" on Batman's vigilantism. She wants the two of them to fight in order to shut Batman down from snooping on A.R.G.U.S.--and maybe even end up getting himself killed by Superman.
  • Amanda will try to use Lex as such. But Lex is a genius so he will outsmart her in return, i.e., he'll ultimately be using her instead. Rather than just being used by Waller to achieve the neutralization of Batman, Lex will upset Waller's apple cart by using Kryptonian bio-tech to try to create his own personal army of super-soldiers (versus simply doing the R&D for the military to develop their own versions); and in order to do that he needs an unstoppable creature such as Doomsday to stop Superman.
  • Lex rationalizes to himself that he is a hero in doing this. He's grandiose and believes that only he is smart enough to be trusted with Kryptonian tech. He is protecting humanity by retaining sole control of Kryptonian tech. He doesn't trust the government with it any more than Batman does. But that mistrust more fueled by his own narcissism than altruistic.
  • The wild card that Lex doesn't expect, and can't overcome, will be Wonder Woman.

Yes, it does appear that Bruce and Clark have crossed paths before, which would explain why they're able to divine their true natures in a second encounter. Even if they don't know for certain, perhaps what we're seeing is them sensing it somehow.

I don't think we have enough info on the DCEU version of Amanda Waller just yet to extrapolate what she knows about Bruce, but you may be onto something there.

Interesting theory. We'll see.

Bravo - listening to that was like like frequency of gold.

Bringing this pic back to remind us of Henry in all his potential deliciousness as Superman.

Let's use Hot Toys to compare and contrast MOS Superman with BvS Superman:

BvS one is better, but the blue seems a shade darker than the actual suit.

That wasn't for SR though; that was for the ridiculous McG Superman film, based on JJ Abrams' terrible script. I love Cavill, but not even he could have made that movie good.

JJ's mess of a script at least would've been fun, though. *side-eyes Superman Returns*

Of the two he did, the one that got the development/production going, instead of the first version of BvS ironically, was the second script he wrote for Flyby which was better compared to the first script. I still think Flyby would've been great IF they had removed anything about Krypton. Still keep it intact for the sequels, because I think that idea was great, and fans who disagree don't realize why it would've been good; but focus on this one movie, and we could've had a Superman who knew he was an alien but nothing else beyond that, kinda like Smallville Season 1. And you still could've used robots that Superman would've fought, but they would be from Lex Luthor and not Ty-Zor (if I got that name correct).

There are alot of ideas that MOS shares, and those I wish MOS used, but in regards of the 21st century superhero films, Flyby is a what if I would've wanted to see. Moreso than Superman Lives, even though that had good ideas too.

The reality ended up even more delicious! I'm sure he would have been waxed smooth for this project. Whereas Snyder and Co. kept Cavill in his natural hairy state for Man of Steel, and straight female and gay male audience members seem to have greatly approved of that move.

Kind of crazy that Cavill was only 21 when he was being considered for Superman.

Even crazier when you remember that Tom Welling essentially started playing Superboy when he was 24.

I still don't know what filmmakers were thinking 10 years ago for considering a 21 year old for the roles of Bond and Superman.

They were thinking "Youth >>>>>>>>>>>>> All".

Amy Adam auditioned for Lois Lane in Superman Flyby and Superman Returns. Cavill & Routh were supposed to be in Flyby and when Singer took over, he went with Routh & Bosworth (on advice of Kevin Spacey).

So, we could be viewing Cavill & Adams in a 2003 Superman film with a lot of insane stuffs from Abrams' script like Krypton not exploding, Lex Luthor being a Kryptonian, Superman died and resurrected, Jor-El committing ritual suicide to join his dead son, etc. You can thank Harry from AICN for leaking this script and getting fans outraged over this blasphemy. lol

Holy ****, first time hearing about this, but it actually sounds great. I mean, not as a regular Superman movie for sure, but as a sort of alternate reality one, sounds pretty interesting.

Thanks for sharing.

That definitely sounds bizarre, but I retain that I'd probably watch it for that reason mostly... there's something in its bizarreness that I like. Certainly a quite different take on the character and its mythos.
