BvS Henry Cavill IS Superman - - - - - - - Part 21

It was the first full bodied one that came up on google :woot:

Each to their own mate, I like the Superboy suits but I think the new ones are much better, but they would be given the better materials available now and such.

Given today's material I'd love to see Cavill in a "real" classic suit and not photo-shopped.

This is not a suit debate. I think the MOS suit is great - but for it should be a tad brighter. I love them both which makes me an anomaly I guess.

The GC was an improvement on Reeve's, as was the intention, with a longer cape, more speedo style "underwear" as opposed to granny underwear (actually outerwear) and a larger shield.

I am trying to post snaps that are better than the one you posted. Not working so far.

The MOS suit is great and GC's Superboy suit is great, IMO, the definitive classic suit to date.

Thanks.

Of course nit mate I didn't think it was and as I said each to their own. We all have our preferences

I've liked all the Superman suits just about, even the Superman Returns one had some good things about it and in sone shots in the film you can see why they chose it in that film.

I totally agree that the Superboy suits were an improvement on the a Reeve's suits aswell.

You can see the homie's thang in that Superboy suit. Can't say I'm about it, but to each his own.

Its not Superboy vs Man Of Steel suits. I love both suits which makes me an anomaly I guess.

Yes, I'd love to see Cavill in a classic suit updated to today's materials.

The Superboy suit is 26 years old now. Made on a shoe-string budget, but they got it right. Longer cape, more form-fitting boots, larger shield and speedo "outwear, as opposed to "granny" outwear.

^ I wouldn't mind seeing Henry's "thang" ;)

As for my prior comments on Welling.... I wasn't hating on Tom to praise Henry. TBH, I loved Smallville and had mad love for him in it when I watched it-- it's especially excellent for a CW show. I just hadn't seen any episodes since MoS, and going back, I was shocked at how I can't see Welling as Supes anymore. HC has ruined Welling's performance by becoming my ultimate Superman. He's ruined Reeve and Cain for me too...

It was just a random pondering that we're lucky to have Henry....he makes the rest look like grasping posers.

Sorry if that sounds mean, but it's my feelings. And I don't see anything wrong with comparing people who've played the same role.

I would love to see Cavil in the Superboy suit, but with the under suit to give definition.

I love that this superman has swag. Superman should, IMO.

Henry Cavill looks a little like George Reeves, a LOT like Chris Reeve at times, and totally embodies Jim Lee's Superman.

In short, I think Cavill's the most Superman looking actor to date, IMHO.

Yup. Compared to the others he looks like a beast.

Cavill looks like he stepped right off the page. There's no other actor who looks more like Superman than he does.

It's still hard to put him past Reeve. Truly not a huge fan of those old movies but trying to be objective. Also I think Routh is pretty close, but didn't have the benefit of a really good costume update. Definitely the top 3 in look would be: Reeve, Cavill, and Routh.

Eventually Cavill after a couple more films under belt may do enough to where I can see a clear lead.

Routh worked pretty hard to get a physique but ended up in an inferior suit for sure :o

Ughh bad suit imo.

I'd go Cavill, Routh, Reeve, actually. I never thought that the latter looked as much like the character as many fans claim, though there is a resemblance.

I'll throw in another. I say he's Clark, Reporter, Kal-El and Superman. When he's back home, he's Clark Kent, son of Martha and Jonathan. The true boy in him and comfort comes out. Though he's under his human name, reporter Clark Kent is still a cover. I hope the higher ups listen to Cavill when he speaks on how many layers they can dig into Superman's character as this universe moves on and he gets atleast another solo film.

Cavill has frequently mentioned this. Superman is a complex and thereby potentially more interesting character. Tougher to write but if written well he can be rewarding.

An ensemble film like BvS and JL1 and 2 don't allow the individual character development he talks about so hopefully the suits listen and give another solo film.

They already are going to give him a solo film, as they mentioned it along with the undated Bat solo film when they put out the slate. But, you knew that.

Interesting. I'm surprised someone would put Routh ahead of Reeve.

I'd say Cavill, Reeve, Routh.

Singer also for Routh to slim down towards shooting because he felt like his physique was too far from Reeves. Damn that Singer is a horrible director.

And you look at that suit, you can't think of any practical reason why anyone would wear that crap. Snyder did this perfectly by showing us that Krypton was a caped society with symbols of your house a lot like medieval days with armour and sigils.

Singer's Superman was a love letter to the Donner films. The result was a less thought out film and more of a rehash homage.

To be fair, had he started with a clean slate it may have been MUCH different but it still stands he made those horrible updates anyway. I would've preferred to see Routh wear the exact old Reeve costume.

Snyder must be given credit for creative direction on almost all aspects of his JL costumes, but he also has a great costume designer as well. If memory serves, Singer's costume designer in the DVD extras was pretty defensive about not being able to achieve a comic-accurate look to the costume.

Which now we know isn't true at all.

I think Routh wasn't good fit for Superman. Not about costume. Great looking guy, also big and buff but that's it. He doesn't have screen charisma... or at least not Superman charisma. Tom Welling suffers from same.

They look like love interests for Bridget Jones diary. :oldrazz:

I was happy to see news of this report from WB that

“stand-alone Batman and Superman films” will also debut between 2016-2020.
So they are both coming within the next four years. Great news that Cavill's Supes is officially getting his next standalone within the next four years. (Cavill will certainly be reprising the role since to the best of my knowledge he is signed for the JL films.)

And this makes me hopeful also that George Miller will direct the next Superman solo film!

I'd say Cavill, Reeve, Routh.

I'll have to go with Reeve as my favorite on-screen Superman. Sure, the Donner/Lester characterization has its faults, but I attribute that mostly to the writing, as opposed to Reeve's portrayal. Cavill comes a close second, and I'm very much hoping that we get to see a fully-formed Superman in his take on the character this time around. I don't have much to say about Routh; he gets little more than a perfunctory mention from me.

As far as physical appearance goes, they all have a resemblance to the character, some of which was enhanced with hair dye [Both Reeve and Cavill were somewhat lighter-haired prior to being cast] or contacts [Routh wore blue ones]. That said, I still kind of have my own ideas as to what a real-life Superman would look like; in my mind's eye, he's not a carbon copy of any one particular actor working today.

Reeve then Cavill for me. Routh was good as Clark but I didn't really feel his Superman.

Agreed  although I liked Routh's Superman a little better than you. For me Cavill is only a step behind Reeve aswell.
