Cavill looks good there. Though I agree, the buzz cut and paler skin doesn't work as well on him. He looked great at the Immortals premieres with a bit of tan, stubble and slightly longer hair.

Also, isn't Shaq a massive superman fan? Has a Superman logo tattoo'd on his arm iirc.

Steel? For a 2016> version it's hard to think of a tall and well built black actor with the gravitas and schedule availability needed to play him. Idris Elba is kinda nominated for everything these days but if he wasn't with Marvel, he could have been a good choice. Similarly Mike Colter's been snapped up for Luke Cage.

I like Boris Kodjoe looks-wise, not sure he good he is in terms of acting ability. He's 6"4.

I'm curious about something, though. At the risk of stirring up some controversy, could someone swap his Superman hair for his Clark Kent hair, and vice versa?

I feel like the slicked back works better on Supes than Clark. I mean, no one has that look anymore and it makes sense for Supes, an alien to have that shiny slicked back, perfect hair.

I agree it works better that way. But not necessarily because Superman's an alien. I just think it makes sense the superhero persona is 'tidier'.

But some might say the lifesaving persona shouldn't have time to perfect his hair

lol yeah I dunno why but it makes sense in my mind. You know in movies whenever you see an alien that looks human, they never have curly/rough hair, it's always that gelled up slicked back look.
