Not sure about the costumes, but can't argue with the message. :o

To be fair, we were only given one opportunity to see what Superman's classic suit would look like in a modern, big budget film, and most agree that the execution (and not the design) was botched. In my mind, the briefs have never been given their fair shake, and now they most likely never will be.

They had 4 movies, at least 2 TV shows, and at least 4 animated cartoons.
Its time to let no trunks have a chance and at least in live action it works great...not so much in New 52.

I love how people hating on this portrayal of Superman focus on the "You'd be dead already" and not the "IF I wanted it".

once i see this film i will probably leave these boards..... until next batch of justice league news comes out.. which knowing my luck will be 24 hrs later

I see a couple people have Death of Superman on their favorites list. I've never really had much affection for it. Not that it wasn't well-written, I just find the concept of superman dying too sad to enjoy. It's like imagining the death of Santa Claus, lol.

The ending was brilliant, too.
Yes. Red Son and Gotham by Gaslight are the best two Elseworlds stories IMO.

I like it because of the message it sends, especially the second part of the story, where the world mourns for Superman. When he's not around anymore people realise how much he is needed, and reflect on what he stood for. And the third issue with all the replacements showing up says there is no substitute for the real deal. The first issue is good too, I think, even if it's just a slug fest for the most part. Superman is the only guy in the DC universe who stands a chance at stopping Doomsday, and he never gives up. He dies to save everyone. It's Superman at his most desperate and heroic.

Mr Fan that is a wonderful way of looking a story, which I always viewed as a gimmick. Although I won't lie I kinda enjoyed the whole thing especially at the time because it got superman alot of needed attention and trying to guess which superman was the real one was kinda of fun.

Oh I forget to put superman adventures issue 18 in my best list. If any of you have seen the late Mr kent episode from STAS this issue is it's comicbook equivalent and a truly wonderful Clark Kent (not superman) story so every superman fan should get a kick out of it.

I was born in '88, so by the time I was old enough to know comics, it was the Death of Superman era so that's why I have the affection I do with that story.

I do, however, think the Reign of the Supermen was awful. I re-read it some time ago and most parts were more than a chore to get through. The beginning of the bad times for Superman stories.
