Just no to that hair. No. I suppose the giant S on the chest was not enough and he needed an S on his hair so people don't call him Doberman.

Or... Or... The spit curl has been part of Superman's comic appearance for longer than you've been alive and like many CBMs the original Superman film was trying to recreate what fans wanted to see.

No... No, it's probably something silly like you stated. :)

It's silly, and as with the trunks, thank god it's gone.

I've no doubt Snyder loves Superman, but Batman's his guy first and foremost and he is basically using The Dark Knight Returns as a template. That's bad enough, and if what I heard about certain scenes is true, it's gonna piss off many Superman fans tired of him taking a backseat to Batman, especially since this was originally supposed to be the sequel to Man of Steel.

So yeah, you really can't blame us Superman fans for being a bit wary of his treatment in this movie.

I'm one of those Supes fans, but for me? This paranoia is so 2013. Does Snyder love Batman? Yes, but he equally loves Superman and his words back that up over and over. And The Dark Knight Returns as a "template" only contains to the characterization to Batman; not necessarily Superman. Snyder's recent interview is a good one and he mentions the intentions where TDKRETURNS comes into play and it's not story.

Oh, and it's a no brainer that Supes probably gets his ass kicked at some point. That's a huge dynamic in Superman and Batman's relationship and with the inclusion of Kryptonite, it's bound to happen and each side knows it, but there's MANY ways Supes can be done proud to the fans. It's not all about the "fight" anyway and who forms the league, which I'm sure will fit the criteria of the movie. As long as Supes has his moments and is respected, all that worrying about the little things left me 3 years ago. I trust Snyder to have the Words Finest as well as the Trinity look strong going into JL.

Agreed, but why drag Superman Returns into this? :sly:

LOL! It's all part of my therapeutic process you know, that and self-prescribing 40 mg of prozac and a daily dose of charlize theron pics! All this to erase stalkerman returns from my memory.

I don't see how they're using THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS as a template for anything except the fight.

I agree, I think Superman fans are hugely exaggerating how closely this story is going to follow The Dark Knight Returns.

When I was growing up, the adults I knew or saw had these sensible, boring yet oh-so-common hairstyles with. Seeing the greatest superhero ever have this little s-squiggle in his hair while saving the world added to his serious-yet-fun image to me.

Making the squiggle a hair-gel-solidified lethal weapon in SR didn't help :D

It would have been nice if Cavill had a squiggle.

I prefer what we got, but I wonder what the reaction would have been if Snyder had gone with that look.

Lol People complain about everything involving these comic book films, so I feel like Snyder was damned if he did and damned if he didn't.

The main connection is the armor. Batman usually doesn't wear armor fighting Clark, though in more modern stories he has.

We've seen the concept played out in multiple storylines and versions of the characters. The use of Kryptonite, various tricks to gain an advantage, the Man VS God angle...

Now, many of these came after/homaged THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS, but I don't think this is going to be that TDKR heavy in general.

I suspect we will see elements of a lot of source material fights between the characters, not just Miller's, but more recent ones, like Loeb's HUSH fight, with a bit of their New 52 first encounter, and a dash of their original modern age encounter along with the animated series take on the moment/s.

Great post.

Lois will be in Africa investigating when Supes rescues her and is blamed for more destruction. Poor guy can't win. http://www.wsj.com/articles/the-great-comic-book-movie-debate-1457637539?tesla=y
Yeah, I like this. Actually dealing with 'real world' consequences, and getting the reactions of politicians, agencies and the general public. Everything is so overpoliced these days. You need a permit to scratch your back almost. I'm sure I read an interview with Snyder or Cavill, and it was basically saying even rescuing a cat from a tree would eventually become an issue. They'd question if the cat was traumatized by the rescue, if the tree was damaged in any way...you get the idea.

Like in The Incredibles when the suicidal man sues Mr. Incredible for saving him and causing him bodily injury in the process.

Exactly. With a vigilante like Batman he's basically off the grid. So while he's publicly criticized as well they can't really nail him like they can Superman. Superman has to stand there in full public view and cop it.

Which has to piss Supes of on some level.

On real world consequences, I'm amazed that the new Civil War trailer shows on 70 some people died in the Chiutari invasion and 170 some in Sokovia. Those numbers are way low and unrealistic. It seems to me that Marvel is deliberately downplaying the effects of the Avengers' damages. Not to be Marvel vs. DC, cause they're both cool, but I'm glad Snyder and WB aren't minimizing damage to gloss over things.

Herolee is a good poster, I get been anxious. Maybe Tobias has gotten to you? Speaking of he seems to have disappeared again hmm!

Maybe I'm secretly Tobias in disguise....
