BvS Henry Cavill IS Superman - - - - - - - - - - - Part 25

MOS and BvS aren't my ideal versions of Superman. But, I enjoyed both films and will defend them overall.

However, I WILL draw the line if they decide to go the "evil Superman" route.

I hope that was an alternate timeline that was averted when the World's Finest joined forces and
Superman sacrificed himself.
If this isn't the case then I'm with you. There's only so much we can take as fans before washing our hands. As of now I hope that this is part of Snyder's plan to arc Superman's story for modern audiences.

You know what drives me crazy? They set up this senate hearing, which was a great opportunity to have Superman speak up and be the character we all wanted him to be.

And then they just snatched the opportunity away, before he can even say a word. Presumably because if Superman were to speak it would risk convincing the film's dangerously stupid Batman of his decency, and ruining his already tenuous reasons for plotting to murder the poor guy.

Yes, and the world needs to adjust. That's why I'm cool with BvS. It shows that.

But see youk could portray the world needing to adjust to superman, without superman doubting his mission to the extent it was played in this movie. Clark watching the news and contemplating crowds chanting against him and burning dummies of him, that's OK. Clark telling Lois that superman was never real, just the dreams of a farmer? No, too far, and not needed. The superman that realized he had to kill zod, and destroy the ship and krypton w it, in order to save humanity is suddenly doubting his role in the world because of protests? It's just not logical, honestly. If this happened in MOS, ok makes sense. But it's two years later, theyve built a statue of him.

And I liked the movie, I've seen it twice, might go a third in imax. But there are issues with superman, and they are only there too to help develop Batman, they really don't do much for superman.

Did Snyder actually talk of a Superman arc?

I sure cant see it. MOS is a Superman film, BvS mostly a Batman film and JL as Snyder describes it a film in which Superman probably does not show up till the 3rd act. And is a plot point again.

Let's face it. WB either doesn't really like Superman, or don't know what to do with him outside the death of Superman storyline. It's like the had some trauma about Superman ever since the Superman Lives days. They are reluctant to have a happy and relaxed Superman. It worked in the 70's but now they seem to think that kind of positivity wouldn't fly. Which is not true. Tony Stark is pretty relaxed, jokey guy. Audience seems to love him.

Watched the move a second time today. Made a lot more sense....I get what you're saying about the "superman was never real" line, but I still think it's in line with what's happening. Superman is meant to represent hope and he doesn't feel he's doing that. He feels, basically, that he's failed at being superman. I think if he didn't have those doubts, it woould be heartless of him. He questions himself because he truly is superman. He cares and wants the best and it pains him that people don't understand him. I don't think it's that angsty, really. It's just a temporary response to a difficult situation. He's allowed that in other /stories/adaptations, so why not here?

Looking forward to Cavill's comments on the ending of the film and JL1 set-up.

Not sure how much he can say. He tries to signal fans. In spring 2014 just before shooting BvS he was asked at LAX who he wanted to fight as Supes next. He said Doomsday! He'd read the script by then.

I think WB/Snyder may film Cavill's Supes scenes in secret to keep the suspense up. That might be easy given its filming in the UK.

The issue will be keeping Cavill from revealing anything. LOL - bet his NDA is tightened and he gets dinged anytime he mentions JL in public.

Maybe he will comment on BvS though.

Outtake from Henry’s 2013 shoot for Shortlist magazine whilst promoting MoS.

He has a real 'classic Hollywood' look here I think. :yay:

Cavill looks like a cartoon in that pic; as in he just looks so unreal.

I too it as clark really doubting himself - he felt he could never be the superman his father wanted - when in reality, he was all along.

JL has to be the definitive portrayal of superman - 2013 to late 2017, anything over than that is just too long and will look blatantly obvious that they either don't know how to handle him, or don't want too.

I now get it why Cyclops fare so annoyed with Singer.

This, so much this. Did you see that i09 BVS review where they talked about the DC Murderverse? I usually ignore that site, but I have to admit their review had me in stitches.

Seriously, f*** this movie.

Thought cavill did great in this movie. Really felt for him when batman was kicking his ass. I wouldn't mind an injustice type movie, though not this soon. Hope we get to see batman and superman get a real friendship going in the justice league movie.

Loved Cavills portrayal of the Big Blue. Out of curiousity a question rises

Superman nearly died with one Nuke. Is it feesable this superman is powered down as to the point where he could be defeated by a couple of nukes. Maybe two since one left him so close to death.

Cavill and Adams definitely knocked boots offset. Shes always swooning about him, theres no doubt she jumped his bones.

Nah, if that was the case, they would keep it professional all the time.

So...Cavill's got kissable abs to go along with his childbearing hips and razor sharp cheekbones. Why is that not surprising?

A factor was what he had just been through in the fight with Batman I think.

Fool me once, it's on you.
Fool me twice is on me.

I don't want to have to wait for the 3rd film(!) to see a hopeful, more inspirational happy Superman.
Even if for just a little. Was he even happy he saved anyone? Didn't look like it.

Now you're going to call me 'entitled fanboy'?

I get it; I didn't get the movie I wanted. That in itself doesn't make a film bad. Sadly, I thought the rest of the film was bad too.

He actually does smile as he delivers the girl he saved from the fire to her family, but then the crowd closes in around him and the smile fades. I found it to an awesome moment in the film. The rest of the rescues are cut in with all the public criticism and it makes sense that he isn't smiling because he keeps getting trashed for doing the right thing. I think that he keeps doing the right thing is part of what makes him superman.

I don't even remember that smile. I think it doesn't last long enough for most people to grasp what this scene is trying to convey. I wish they let him having some bright, genuine smiles in the beginning of the movie so we could feel the loss when he didn't smile anymore.

I posted this in another thread;
The sacrifice looked great on paper but WB and Zack Snyder didn't put enough effort to develop his character enough for the GA to root for him and feel for him. Had it been done right the death of Superman would have been the core of people reactions instead of how cool Batfleck was and how WW stole the show. His death and possible resurrection should have been a hotter topic than whether or not Batman should kill.

And since JL is likely going to be another Batman heavy film, what do Superman fans get out of this? Hoping that they wouldn't turn him evil and that he would at least have relevant role in JL as T-REX in Jurassic world?
It annoys me that of all the trinity he's the one who got the least positive feedback from GA and WB and Snyder could cite that as a perfect reason to use him less in JL.:cmad:
