I don't even remember that smile. I think it doesn't last long enough for most people to grasp what this scene is trying to convey. I wish they let him having some bright, genuine smiles in the beginning of the movie so we could feel the loss when he didn't smile anymore.

I posted this in another thread;
The sacrifice looked great on paper but WB and Zack Snyder didn't put enough effort to develop his character enough for the GA to root for him and feel for him. Had it been done right the death of Superman would have been the core of people reactions instead of how cool Batfleck was and how WW stole the show. His death and possible resurrection should have been a hotter topic than whether or not Batman should kill.

And since JL is likely going to be another Batman heavy film, what do Superman fans get out of this? Hoping that they wouldn't turn him evil and that he would at least have relevant role in JL as T-REX in Jurassic world?
It annoys me that of all the trinity he's the one who got the least positive feedback from GA and WB and Snyder could cite that as a perfect reason to use him less in JL.:cmad:

Snyder will use him plenty in JL. You CANNOT do JL without Superman.

At this point Snyder could say the fire is hot and it wouldn't sound believable to my ears.
He said there'd be no JL without Superman and then went ahead and killed him off because his Batman couldn't be in charge otherwise.

It's pointless trying to argue with the people who insist Snyder wants to eliminate Supes from the JL. Any evidence to the contrary is dismissed because "We don't have proof" and any evidence that supports it is brought up because "Look, this is proof!".

Everyone is going to solidly hold onto their point of view and overestimate information that supports it.

It's true. If JL shooting still proceeds according to plan we'll find out next year who're right or wrong. At this stage we can only speculate based on our assumption of the infos we got.

I felt all positive after watching BvS. I loved Superman arc and even loved the ending for how emotional it was for me. It's only after I read and listened to Snyder's interviews that I realised the story might not go towards the direction I wanted it to. My scepticism didn't come out of nowhere.

I had trouble accepting creative favouritism once with FOX and Wolverine. Can't believe I might have to deal with it again. Movieverse isn't that enjoyable if your favourite characters aren't one of GA darlings.

Everyone I know who's seen the film has left talking about the end before anything else... it's the biggest most significant aspect of the film. Superman is the pathos of the story....and every character is affected by his death.

So how in hell is that favoring Bats?? SMH.

I like the film and everything. But let's be honest, Superman's sacrifice is the least talked about subject about the movie.

It's painful

:(

It really IS hard to be a Superman fan lol. Snyder gets so many things right and then does so many other things so wrong that you always get that void feeling. Like it could have been wonderful but isn't.

Why can't we have nice things!

It's not most significant for the fanboys, maybe. But the GA? They're leaving the theater going, "I can't believe they killed Supes."

snyder and WB need to watch supergirl look at this scene this is after the city has turned on kara after she went evil due to red Kryptonite

you get the sense of relatability, empathy, wanting to do better ,wanting to be better, and wanting the trust of the city back that she loves

but in BVS we get clark saying "i don't care what they think Lois"

That line is not a good example. It's not like he was saying he didn't care about the destruction of Metropolis or the death of its people. Come on

He's just saying "I don't care they think I killed those people because I didn't and you know it. "
And " I don't care they won't allow me to intervene due to politics"

Well to be fair (I know, it's ironic that I'm saying that) I've been keeping a close eye on anything and everything that Snyder has gone on the record of saying when it comes to Superman's involvement with the JL, and there seems to be more evidence that Superman will not get to interact with the League's Members as much as Batman and Wonder Woman will due to being "dead" until revived.

Plus, the guy did say that one of the biggest reasons why he wanted Superman gone was because he wanted to give Batman the honor assembling the group.

Not once has Snyder gone on record of saying that Superman will have a integral role in the JL.

go watch snyder's interview he flat out says he killed superman because he wanted batman to recruit the justice league and says if superman is their that cant happen
Because one of the big things I wanted to make sure of was that as we went into Justice League, Bruce Wayne was the one who was gathering the Justice League. I thought it was really important to have Bruce Wayne be the samurai who goes and finds the other samurai, that to me was important. And with Superman around it’s kinda hard, because Superman’s Superman so it’s kinda hard for Bruce to be like, ‘Yeah I wanna put a Justice League together’. It’s like, ‘Okay, but maybe Superman should be doing that. You’re just a guy. You’re a cool guy, don’t get me wrong, but you’re just a guy.’”

And why does he want Batman to recruit the JL? He wants to do it for dramatic purposes, IMO. It will be a more difficult and challenging task recruiting the JL with Batman doing it, and that is why he wants Batman to be the one who recruits.

He says in another interview that Superman is the Michael Jordan of superheroes so it would not be hard to recruit the heroes if it was Superman doing it. So Snyder did it to have more dramatic conflict in the first JL movie, IMO.

we should be getting a trailer in 6 months!

Bingo. JL 1 will be a two parter narrative; Bruce assembles the JL and Clark's revival. To be honest, don't see much action in this upcoming film. Doesn't lend itself to it.

I personally believe it's about a two point narrative going into JL, 1) how or what will convince the others to follow Batman, how does a mortal instruct the gods 2) The world has seen Superman for what he truly represents and believes in his ideology, how does that translate with him not present. Forming a team is one thing, leading it to it's destiny is another thing entirely, and the trinity can do that.

I'm sure there will be plenty, between the Parademon army, the Furies, Kalibak and Steppenwolf, Darkseid himself and whoever else they decide to use.

You know, the main reason I'm losing my mind over the up coming Superman arc in JL isn't because I'm a fanboy who just wants my favourite character to be front and centre no matter if it fits the storyline or not.

It has more to do with my obsession for a complete, epic story. I hate unfinished saga. I love MOS for the grandiose of the premise more than the movie itself. I want Jor-El's words to work as a prophecy rather than a pretty quote to make the trailers sound cool.

You will give the people of Earth an ideal to strive towards. They will race behind you, they will stumble, they will fall. But in time, they will join you in the sun, Kal. In time, you will help them accomplish wonders.
I want to see Kal-El who accomplishes all of those. It didn't happen in MOS. It didn't happen in BvS. It HAS TO happen in JL otherwise we're going to have an incomplete Superman saga.

How disappointing it would be if LOTR end without the ring being destroyed and Aragorn wasn't crowned the King. If Jor-El words never came true it would ruin MOS for me.

So my tantrum over the possibility of Batman being in charge of the league doesn't come from my obsession over the leadership but it comes from my personal concern that Jor-El words would never come true without Superman joining the league and leading them.

Without a threat there is no way the JL will form without a reason to. Only reason Avengers decided to work together was because of weird alien creatures coming out of Loki's hole.

Oh and also Superman's death has inspired the formation of the JL, so yet again Supes is inspiring some more suckaz.

I am discouraged about this too. The death was wasted as it carried little emotional impact IMO. As there was no build-up. WB needed to re-popularize Superman again first before doing DOS IMO. Supposedly MOS was meant to reignite interest but written as it was it failed to do that.

The GA responded to Batfleck and Gadot's WW. WB/Snyder could well use GA response in tweaking the JL1 script. It could mean even less Superman than is in there now. And already Snyder's outline of JL1 makes it sound like there won't be all that much.

I have to say, one of my favourite scenes in the movie was on the rooftop when Superman is

on his knees and Lex has revealed he has Martha. When he roars at Lex, with his eyes glowing red, that was the first time I've thought that Cavill's Superman is terrifying when he's angry.

It also fitted well with the whole 'demon' analogy Lex had just used, described Martha as a witch because she was the mother of a demon.

Nonsense! That was so uncharacteristic of Superman because Superman would be in total self control and know exactly what to do in that moment and make Lex see the error of his ways and make him turn himself in and release Martha!

:whatever:

I also enjoyed this very relatable and realistic reaction of Superman.

Having listened to Snyder's Collider interview (he comes off a bit too arrogant in it IMO) and some of his comments it seems this way to me.

The original plan was for a Superman trilogy. An epic saga with one film leading to the next. And Jor-El's words playing out. As I recall Cavill hinted at that back in the day.

Plans obviously changed. Batman brought in and BvS became basically a Batman/pre-JL film and now of course there is JL1.

These changes pushed whatever epic plans they had for Supes to the side is my guess.

Hopefully when Supes is seen in JL1, even if it is a smallish amount, Cavill will get to be that classic Superman he and fans want to see.
