Henry Cavill Out as Superman Amid Warner Bros.' DC Universe Shake-Up

I think Supergirl has pretty effectively poisoned that well, sadly. Its tough to do a meaningful story examination of a topic when you constantly remind everyone of that other version which did the theme in the incoherent, mad libs soap box style.

All the more reason to do it, if you ask me.

Both portrayals worked for me, naive portrayal in WW and composed demeanor in BvS. In JL, the movie suffered from many problems, including shoddy dialogue and scenes where actors were saying something but came off like they were talking to themselves.

I agree that Gal is nowhere near other experienced "Oscar winning actresses", but I have seen people improve a bit as they get some experience, I remember people used to criticize Matthew McConaughey for his acting skills or lack thereof , 10 years back but now he's considered as a good actor.

And the other ''oscar winning actresses or better seasoned actresses'' have slept and fallen flat in some of the cbms. Cotillard death scene is bloody awful. Portman was slept through Thor2. I've never been more bored by Adams than her as Lois. Recently folks criticizing Brie over looking uninterested and emotionless/flat, I don't agree with that, but cb fandom likes to exaggerate all this stuff. Heath was a great actor before playing joker. Leto is now seen as a joke. Eh.

Yeah. Oddly enough, the two performances in JL that I liked the most were Henry and Ray, and they are the ones who will probably never play their respective characters again. .

This is a good point, and the likely truth of it saddens me. Superman is arguably the most recognizable hero in history, but now he's in limbo. Cyborg is a huge name to Millennials and Gen Z, but WB seems to be scratching their heads as to how they turn him into a stand-alone success.

The issue is trying to turn Cyborg into a solo success in the first place. Cyborg actually does have some iconicity and name recognition, but its in a team context, the Teen Titans. He doesn't really have the foundation to run as a solo hero ( or in JL, which is largely a team of solo heroes rather than a team of team heroes ).

I don’t think anyone, of any generation, considers Cyborg a “huge name.”

DC obviously does. When the New 52 began, he was presented as part of the big 7. He was part of that huge Target promotion a few years ago, and he seems to be a priority in every set of new figures or collectibles that they roll out. He's blown up over the last 10-15 years.

Around 2013, my daughter had a large birthday party and all of the kids wanted a tour of my collectibles room. When they saw my DC shelves, one of the first figures that they recognized was Cyborg. They all knew the Teen Titans by heart from the old show and they were enjoying TTG, but they only had a passing knowledge of Flash and Wonder Woman. I wouldn't be surprised that if DC did a survey of name recognition of their characters, Cyborg would probably be right behind Batman and Superman for kids/teens in the 8-15 range.

Cyborg on Doom Patrol > Cyborg in Justice League

I'll have to disagree there because I thought Fisher was perfect, but I'm convinced that they put Cyborg on Doom Patrol for instant recognition among older teens and twenty-somethings.

The actor on doom patrol is ehhhh. If Fisher was written with more charisma he would've nailed it. He suffers from a milder case if cavills supes imo.

The best thing about Doom Patrol Cyborg is that he’s confirmed to be joining the Titans in S2. I completely agree that the Justice League was sorely lacking diversity, but Cyborg wasn’t the right choice IMO. In hindsight, it should’ve gone to John Stewart. The Titans are where Cyborg can really shine . His dynamic with Robin, Beast Boy, and the rest of the team is so much more interesting than seeing him interact with any members of the league.

What I don't get is shoehorning him into Doom Patrol. He's part of the TITANS and they have a TITANS show on their network! Why not use him on that instead? It's just strange.

EDIT: Just saw Rorschach's post. Okay, I spoke to soon, lol. Didn't know that they were planning on including him on the Titans show; good.

Fisher was the best character in JL. I know that's not saying a lot, but the fact that Cyborg was the character I was least looking forward to seeing and he ended up being my favorite kinda speaks for itself.

Yeah, it should have been Stewart or even J'onn instead, I agree. They really should have set the JL up better. Imagine how much better it would have done without the whole mess with Snyder and Whedon and if they made it after how successful Aquaman was

Geoff Johns likes Cyborg a lot. That's why he tries so hard to make him "hugely popular", and why he shows Up so much in live action. I am sure a lot of younger people know him from the Titans cartoons, but its not like his Solo books are ever bestselling titles or anything like that. I believe hos solo-titles are usually cancelled.

I like the character as a Titan, and I like it even more if he shows up on the Titans show. That is the team he is supposed to be in.

I did like Ray Fisher in the Justice League , and I much prefer the look from that, compared to the Wallmart version in Doom Patrol. Nothing against the actor, His design just looks cheap.

Yeah, I wasn't a big fan of Cyborg's look in JL, but it was better than that Wal-Mart Terminator costume they have him wearing on Doom Patrol. That show does look pretty good though overall. Is it worth checking out?

I've said it elsewhere, but if DC wanted to have a black JLAer, they should have gone with John Stewart. If not John, then either Steel or Vixen. All three would have been far better, more appropriate choices. Instead, they went with the choice that required erasing a character's. . . well, character. And then they made the mistake of thinking that "power" was the same thing as "importance", and basically turned Vic into a living macguffin.

No one is denying that DC wants Cyborg to be a big deal. But their efforts have been largely unsuccessful. His popularity began and ended with Teen Titans.

People know his name, but that doesn’t translate to actual interest in the character himself. At least not outside of group settings.

Where is it confirmed?

There is nothing out there that confirms he will be joining Titans in S2.

This casting breakdown for the character (which was confirmed to be real)

“Male, mid-20s, African-American. Charming, sarcastic, a bit brash, Cyborg is half-human, half-machine — the ultimate Super Hero for the digital age. At least, that’s how it appears. Vic Stone lost his mother at a young age, lost his promising future to a horrific accident and was put back together as a man-machine hybrid by a brilliant and aloof father who sees him as little more than a lab rat. While Vic may be connected to every computer on earth, he struggles to maintain the connections that make us human. Desperate to gain acceptance from the outside world and his father, Vic uses his powers to try and harness the curse of his cybernetic body for good.

ASP SERIES REGULAR. May segue into Series regular on TITANS in subsequent seasons.”

The keyword is "may" so I jumped the gun saying it's confirmed. But yeah I'd bet my fur that he's going to be in Titans S2.

They most likely changed their minds as they wouldnt need a casting breakdown for someone who was already cast for Doom Patrol. Of course we'll see if he shows up but yeah, he is a series regular on DP so....

I think you misunderstand. This was the casting breakdown for Doom Patrol. It says at the very bottom that the actor playing Cyborg may segue into series regular on Titans in subsequent seasons.

I'd put money on Cyborg showing up in s2 of Titans.

I'm sure he'll make his way to Titans before too long.

It's hard for me to have an opinion one way or another on Cyborg as a stand-alone character, but I wouldn't rule out that certain characters are highly successful even without an feature film or TV series. I always look to their body of non-print adaptations as the best indicator. Cyborg is a staple of DC animated films (even without the Titans), DC video games, and now he's been in a live-action series and an ensemble film. That's a résumé that very few DC characters have, so I can't agree that he's "not a big deal."

I'm sure we're going to see those shows cross over quite often. It wouldn't surprise me if we some characters from one show make multi-episode runs on the other, even beyond Cyborg.
