Hickman's "Avengers"

And Nightmask is based on something from New Universe? I have only ever been somewhat aware of it, and just kind of started looking it up.

Yeah Nightmask was one of the original 8 titles from New Universe (at least i think it was 8, that was a long time ago heh). The main thing I remember is that the title character would insert himself into the dreams of others. He didn't have any "real world" powers that I remember. I'm assuming Hickman's version will have a different powerset.

I wonder when New Avengers Beast is going to catch up to All New X-Men Beast?
New Avengers seems to take place before every new Marvel NOW book.

It seems like everything going on right now is related to the New Universe. I wonder how it all ties-in to what's going on in New Avengers and Hickman's Infinity event?

Old. The new one appears to be that bald black dude in the skirt in that preview.

The newuniversal one was pretty different too:

Oh yeah, that's right. Stark thought it was Blackveil but Captain Universe corrected him last week and said he was Nightmask. I'm still learning about these guys. New Universe was coming out around the time when I was just breaking into comics.

I've not really read any of the old stuff either, but the concept greatly interested me and I read a bunch of summaries about some of it. I checked out the newuniversal version of it too, and that was interesting as well. Too bad it was never really finished.

Yeah, the author lost all his scripts and said **** it apparently.

F*** newuniversal. That's my position on that. Just forget about all that and stick to the original New Universe stuff.

Dang, the hate is strong in here. I think she did a pretty good job. I'm glad the new Captain Universe is catching on so quickly. She's actually my favorite part of Hickman's run so far.

yeah wow, that's really *****ey, guys

give the girl props, that's a pretty good costume

THis book is really good...but anyone still not over Hickman letting the Avengers just allow Ex Nhilo to chill on Mars?

I mean it still doesnt make any sense to me.

I hear you on it. I thought it was a little lazy of Hickman too. I understand that it was meant to be a dangling plot to get back to later but he should have came up with a better way to explain why the Avengers would allow an unknown entity like Ex Nihlo to stay there. I'm thinking something along the lines of them being left with no choice but to let him stay on Mars for the good of the Earth. Perhaps he could have locked himself in an impenetrable dome or something and they had to pull back and figure out a way to get in.

I like the cosplay, I was just trying to make a reference.

With the Ex Nihilo thing, it's definitely clumsy, but I'm trusting Hickman to have a reason for the move. I'm sure there'll be a reference to it when they next meet, which will apparently be rather soon. Since Ex Nihilo is supposed to be part of the "Infinity" crossover, I'm really just interested to see more about his general motivation to stay on Mars and create life there instead of moving on to another world to judge.

The stuff in Hickman's book is based more off of newuniversal than the original New Universe though.

Based off everything I've read about New Universe and New Universal, the only things that the current saga have in common with either one are the concepts - like the names of the characters and the White Event.

It may be pointless to argue about what Hickman is basing things solely off of. New Universal barely got off the ground. Ellis and Larroca both admitted that they knew little and/or cared about the original New Universe to begin with. Ellis supposedly had all of his New Universal stories deleted by accident.

Well obviously, that's what I meant. The concepts are pulled more from newuniversal. The Superflow is a newuniversal thing, Nighmask being able to teleport between the real world and where the Superflow exists is also from newuniversal, the mention of there being a Cipher by Nightmask also points to Hickman pulling more from newuniversal than New Universe, as there was not a Cipher in New Universe. I'm sure in the coming issues we'll see more concepts from newuniversal. The way Hickman portrayed the White Event also evokes more imagery from the newuniversal. Therefore, if you have the time, I recommend reading newuniversal since it will make everything going on in Avengers right now all the more satisfying...it's also just good in general.

And yes, Ellis deleted all the files by accident and couldn't continue with the project (supposedly anyway).
