Hickman's "Avengers"

Well Hickman said that both books are mysteries and he did the same thing on his Fantastic Four/FF run with bringing in ideas and droping them only to pay them off later lol hell he did with Secret Warriors.

Have faith people Infinity marks the end of act one of his run and we will get more answers and probably more questions. We still have two more years for him to tell his Avengers/New Avengers stories according to Hickman. You guys make valid points but I'm loving his run and I believe that he well pay them off.

I can see both sides of discussion. Hickman has fantastic ideas, introduces unique concepts, and crafts deep stories that usually warrant multiple re-reads. However, his stories can be really drawn out and confusing. Every writer has their strengths and weaknesses.

I can't fault anyone for dropping the titles. I'll be onboard for the forseeable future but I too am getting fatigued by the never-ending story arcs and no explanations for the weirdness. Hickman definitely reads better in trade but then most do anymore...

Hang in there, kitty! Infinity may be the first great event we've had in years!

Exactly. Hickman's creates long complex stories. Yes, it can be tedious to read them as they are released, but once it's complete I have no doubt it will be a phenomenal read just like his FF run.

I know my shop's dropped their Avengers orders big time since Hickman took over. I don't know how sales are doing, but they aren't selling well where I live.

Without going to far into researching it, right now it sells right around 70-75K. In the latter days of Bendis he was 50-60K but was hitting the same numbers Hickman does now, sometimes a bit higher right around the Heroic Age relaunches.

Avengers has just never been an "A-list comic book" seller and it doesn't look like the movies are going to change that. Kind of makes me feel good and proud honestly. It incentivises them less to try and milk off the movies in the comic industry and shows us hardcore fans aren't easily swayed by just films.

I know Bendis gets a lot of hate but I enjoyed it most from his disassembled to the first 10 issues or so of NA. But then the "pay off" of the Spider-Woman storyline and such ended up being that Secret Invasion crap which was a shame.

It has been A list for a long time, with the big exception of most of ninenties until Busiek.

Agreed. If the book didn't house some of my favorite characters and look so damn beautiful, I may have dropped it by now.

Sales wise? Not really. The Avengers never sold a lot until Heroes Return. The concept itself is A-List, but the sales never were. X-Men constantly owned them for years.

You guys, I think I've made a big life decision. I'm re-reading Hickman's Avengers/Infinity run and I'd put this in my top 5 favorite runs ever. It's just that good. I'm loving the **** out of this book.

Does Shang-Chi kill? I always envisioned him as one of those Spider-Man types that finds another way. Respect all life and all that.

I wonder if Hickman personally designed Cannonball, Manifold, and Sunspot's new costumes. They all seem like they fit with his visual style, if you've ever read any of his other comics, which he designs a lot of elements for.

I hope, because the way the sold out their X fans with AVX it really hurt Marvels reputation in my eyes. X-Men fans kept marvel alive over the years, and they betray us and have our biggest names betray their race, Xavier/Wolverine among others. We all know wolverine's loyalty would always be with the X-Men, because at the end of the day, they are the ones who rescued him from the government, who he then ends up siding with, it just boggles the mind. so disappointing.

Also can anybody tell me why Red Hulk was dropped from the Avengers and the brainless child Hulk from loebs run has been added instead? If he hasnt been dropped off the Avengers, what book is he in because I thought Red Hulk was a great addition to Bendis Avengers team, I know a lot of people disagree, but I just prefer my hulks to talk and red hulk is the closest thing we have to another WWH personality.

Hulk being added was yet another "we have to make the comics like the movies" move that infuriates so many of us.

I don't mind it, to be honest. It fits with the framework Mark Waid set forth in Indestructible Hulk, wherein the Hulk is basically on retainer with SHIELD and, by extension, available to the Avengers. Plus, if he's gonna be lumped in with the Avengers anyway, they might as well work on making him an actual member instead of a guy who helped to found the team and then dipped all of two seconds later, which was the extent of his relationship to the team before the movies.

Let's not pretend the Avengers were treated any better in AvX. Captain America is not and never should be an authoritative thug who shows up on the X-Men's island with demands backed by a superhuman army that literally blots out the sun, and then later resorts to beating on children. That event made both sides look pretty crappy, unfortunately. :csad:

You are 100 percent right, I posted on here somewhere else that Cap was written like Iron man/maria hill from Civil War and that Cyclops was doing the exact same thing that Cap did when Cap charged the cape killers that maria had brought with her.
