Hitman: Absolution - Part 1

Additionally, I mentioned a while ago in this thread that I'd like to see 47 take on someone of his skill level.

There is no one like that. 47 is perfection. Parchezzi was the closest to 47 in skill and he went out like a punk.

I know what ya mean tho. It'd be cool to go after a target who is trained in some of the same things 47 is and have that actually alter how the hit goes.

That's not necessarily true though. There were the other clones like 47. However they're likely all dead at this point. Though Parchezzi and Victoria are proof that there are similar cloning and weapon programmes out there. It wouldn't be too hard to introduce a new threat in the next game that has skills comparable to 47's.

Though the real problem would be conveying that in a gameplay sense. Like you say Parchezzi went out like a punk. Even though in game he (seemingly) used the same methods of infiltration and ambushed 47, that was story set up and a scripted event. If I recall right, it always ends up in a confrontation on the roof, right? It would be nice if the entire event and outcome were conditional on how you chose to play the level and not always so rigid.

.

Now now, don't go all "Batman-fanboy" on me :D

A hero who cannot be beaten isn't interesting. If there's no one who can challenge the character, no one who is a threat, what's the point? He just becomes a god who can do anything to anyone all the time and there's never any sense of risk. Ultimately, 47 will win. Wouldn't it be far cooler to see 47 take on someone as good as him (if not better) and come out on top, rather than just knowing from the start that he's the best there is and there's no point in anyone being his enemy?

Imagine some new breed of clone, 47's a few years older, doing his thing quietly, and some young super assassin manages to get one over on him? Then it's a duel between the old school original clone and the new sleek model. How cool would it be to see 47 beat a guy like that, rather than tearing through every enemy like a pitbull in a kitten factory?

Oh sure there are(were) other clones, but there has been no evidence that they even come remotely close to 47 is skill set(outside of Parchezzi). Ort-Meyer perfected the 'genetic assassin' and any hope of reproducing that pretty much died with him. All the clones and projects we have seen, outside of Ort-Meyers have all been flawed. Parchezzi was the closest in terms of skill but he was going to die any way due to the imperfect cloning procedure. Even Victoria was only capable of doing what she could while in contact with the isotope. 47 is the only perfect clone out there, which makes him incredibly special within this series. But i guess its always as simple as saying 'well there are more clones, Ort-Meyers notes were found' or something of the sort.

I say Parchezzi went out like a punk as just a way of saying no one matches 47's skill set, but yea he was really good. He could infiltrate an area and eliminate his marks in the same way 47 could. I agree tho, if you could remove the scripted gameplay and have to find and eliminate someone of Parchezzis skill set(regardless if its lower than 47's) that could lead to some cool missions.

47 is the absolute, most skilled assassin on the planet, he's proven this countless times before and he's still plenty interesting. We have seen him, on multiple occasions take down other genetically engineered assassins and come out on top. I dont think you keep going that route of him taking on other clones. I mean i think it would be fun to have an organic level featuring a skilled assassin, but ultimately i think 47's biggest threat will be another individual like Dexter. Someone who has almost limitless resources and is absolutely insane. Someone who 47 may not look twice at(which is what he did with Dexter) and ends up costing him. 47's next antagonist needs to be someone who he wouldnt expect, rather than an individual who could go blow for blow with 47(because they dont exist ;) )

We've seen that. The Franchise pretty much had that in Parchezzi and it didnt work out well for Parchezzi or the Franchise as a whole as 47 completely dismantled both. Thats why 47 is so important, he's perfect.

Hmm...well, on one hand I agree with you. From a character and over all story perspective 47 has definitely proven himself time and again to be the best of the best within his universe. Why should he have to prove himself over and over? That said, we also have to appreciate that every Hitman game will be someone's first. If it's someone's first exposure to the character I think it's important to show them why he's so good, rather than just saying "trust us, he beat all out all these super highly skilled dudes in other games". Absolution moved away from that, no one 47 takes on even comes close to his level of skill. Sanchez was a threat on a physical level but even he proved to be nowhere near as challenging for 47 as we're lead to believe in his first scene.

If this were an ongoing TV series, a comic book or something similar which has a continuous narrative I'd be on board with you. I'd say screw that, go and read the early issues, watch the first season, you'll see why our hero is so awesome and just spends time kicking ass instead of getting beat. Video games have a more one off nature that, for better or worse, is fairly unique.

The super assassin clone option might be played out, but it's a core element of the series and a huge part of the character. No matter what, it's always going to pop up and haunt 47. Maybe the next villain doesn't need to be a clone, but whoever they are I think having them match, exceed or at the very least be very close to 47's level of skill would be a good way to go. Perhaps we could even get the best of both worlds, a Dexter-like villain with billions of dollars worth of resources who also happens to be highly skilled and very hands on. A Silva to 47's Bond, if you will.

Well i dont think he needs to take on a super solider every game just because some chuckle head hasnt experienced the best character in games. Thats on them if they are lost in terms of who this character is. But yea, i like the idea of someone he's never come across before. A tycoon of sorts that isnt afraid to get his own hands dirty. That could be cool.

Also and this is sort of off topic, but we also need to keep in mind that next outing, 47 more than likely will still be dealing with the Chicago PD, something he's been able to avoid up until the events of Absolution.

While playing last night, I disguised myself as the judge. I was pretty surprised to see that you couldn't get all the way down to the lower prison levels, but once the guards attacked I became the shotgun-wielding judge of death. Judge, jury and executioner all rolled into one bad ass package.

Now I want someone to make a Judge Dredd costume mod for the PC version.

No, someone needs to make a Judge Dredd game and put a 47 costume in that.

On that topic tho, was i the only one who saw DREDD in theaters and loved it?

I saw DREDD and I liked it, but I saw it in 3D so I'm holding off on a definitive opinion on exactly how much I liked it until I see it in 2D. 3D kind of throws me off and I end up not being able to properly judge a film. My initial thoughts were that it had a lot of kick ass action, but the Judge himself kind of came off as a sidekick and it felt more like Anderson's movie. I was also a bit disappointed that 99% of the film took place in a single building, I'd have definitely preferred if they utilized the entire city.

Which brings me around nicely to a Dredd game. I think a Dredd video game, if it were a nice open world type deal, would be amazing. Cruising around on your big motorcycle responding to random calls and doing various side and story missions would be fun enough by itself, but I think some sort of new feature where you actually make judgements on the criminals would be great. For example the player could see to it that they go to jail for X amount of time, pay a fine, or get executed on the spot. Naturally there would be a lot of over-the-top gun battles and it might even be neat to see other Judge's cruising around town doing their thing.

And just to keep the post on topic, I sort of worked out a way for 47 to take down multiple armed enemies using only melee. This works best with only two enemies, but depending on how quick you are you might be able to do three and keep things quiet. You fake surrender, then grab a human shield and move close to another bad guy. Once you're near enough knock out your hostage then immediately attack the next guy, he shouldn't have time to get a shot of. The third guy, if there is one, will probably open fire while you're attacking the second guy though.

Yea i was thinking the same thing after i saw the film. Would love a hyper violent game featuring the character.

Hah yea thats exactly what i would do. Take a dude hostage then dispatch him then start spamming that attack button before the other dude could fire at me.

When the little message comes on screen and says "clear" you feel so **cking cool.

IMO if the next game can somehow combine the look and mechanics of Absolution with the less linear aspects of Blood Money while still retaining a solid narrative (and improving it where necessary) it will be the best Hitman game evarrrrrrr.

What fries my brain like an egg is that Absolution's story isn't that much better than the story in Blood Money. But maybe I'm a bit biased because I think the epilogue is one of the most awesome gaming moments ever.

For something dynamic I'd love to see a mission set up like how multiplayer works in the Assassins Creed games. Have the two best try and kill each other in a public place. Dump the player in a sandbox and have them hunt while being hunted. There would be a subtle identifier but you and the AI can wear disguises and whatnot... man, that'd be cool. All the paranoia.

Awesome flick. Proper use of 3D, ultra-violent and faithful to the character to the point where Dredd never takes his helmet off. Aaaawesome. It pisses me off that it bombed but I hope it sells well enough on DVD/blu-ray/digital to warrant a sequel. I wanna see Anderson as the head of Psi-Division!

Yea i bought it on Blu Ray and watched it again last night, still awesome. Iv been telling everyone to get it in hopes the blu/dvd sales are high enough to warrant a sequel.

I didn't realize it was out! Time to watch it the proper way, in 2D.

Haha yea man, came out Tuesday. I kinda would of liked to of seen it in 3D tho. If i ever upgrade to a 3D tv thatll be the first movie i watch.

Just got this...about to start!

Haha nice man. Im currently on like my 6th playthrough. Still awesome.
I'm on Level 2 which I recognise as the level I played at that games convention last year. Playing on Hard & I'm not a stealth player by style so this is taking a lot of self control! I didn't play Blood Money before either so this is my 1st Hitman game. Enjoying so far

Nice, yea you should appreciate it even more going in with fresh eyes. If ya like the character(which its impossible not to) and enjoy the world IO created, you'll deff have to check out the HD trilogy thats coming out at the end of the month.

I'm doing purist for my first run through and am at Hope South Dakota doing Shaving Lenny.

It's definitely been a lot of fun, but holy crap this is not the Hitman I played from 1-4. I own all the Hitman games and Absolution has made the game a little too linear for my liking. For starters, the levels have all been split up and made much smaller. In all the previous Hitman games it felt like you could roam around for ages and it was great.

In Absolution you are very confined to a small area and to add onto that, they started adding NON kill objectives to the game! Getting 4 fuses to start an elevator is not what Hitman is about. If you had to get fuses in the previous Hitman games, that usually meant it was an alternate method of getting into an enemy's lair for the kill.

They also force you to kill non-essential characters during scripted events. Like the tutorial mission in the beginning and the faceoff with in the basement of the hospital. Overall, I'm still really enjoying the game, but I'm disappointed in the direction they took the franchise. A lot of the humor felt very immature compared to the classy Blood Money. But we'll see, it's still early in the game for me.

Yea it's deff a departure from the old games, which is what IO wanted. We won't see any more Hitman titles that are built the way the last gen games were.

I like the character yeah & the world is cool yeah. Just need to learn more self control...giving myself away too easily all the time!

I have Blood Money. Is it still worth getting the collection?
