Comics How do you feel about them killing off MJ

ultimately what this comes down to is that no fans that I know what the split/death to occur,so it's just another example of that fat moron saying to hell with the fans, I'll give them what I want not what they want and I'm sure they'll keep buying it anyway. Normally it annoys me when someone says if they make this change or that I'll drop THE ENTIRE MARVEL LINE, etc. But in this case I'm starting to agree, I won't drop the entire line but if they kill MJ i'm dropping 616 spidey cause this is the only way quesada is going to learn from his mistakes. Of course because it's joe he'll probably assume the fans don't like the writing and produce a special arc where we find out that...peter is actually the love-child of NORMAN AND GWEN AFTER GWEN PERFECTED TIME TRAVEL AND WENT BACK IN TIME...I'm kidding but I'm thinking about erasing this before someone at marvel reads this and gives it the go-ahead ;)

If....if this is true (which let's say I'm HIGHLY dubious of considering a comic book store owner really doesn't know more than the rest of us)....than I can safely say I will not pick up another new Spidey comic after Civil War ends. There is no point. They will have killed the last thing that made what Stan Lee created in 1962 work. Why bother then?

Apparently Marvel wants me to give my money to DC.

It's still possible to give BOTH companies your money. The big 2 are both putting out great material, you just have to know what to buy.

And not to mention the other comic companies that have a lot of great material.

Wake up and smell the awesomeness.

I totally agree.
No huge retcons, no killing of signifigant characters,...
and great artwork on that title also.

If they kill off MJ....goodbye Marvel, Hello DC and Aspen!

Comics are awesome right now. When i stopped reading a few years back they were nowhere near this good.
Not the biggest fan of Sensational Spider-Man but its been OK

Here's an idea: JQ hates MJ. Previous EIC hated MJ. Next EIC: Probs hate MJ. If she gets (visibly - ON panel) killed she'll be gone. For good. Trust me.
Now all assume that's true. Now give a reaction that isn't "she'll be back"! lmao.

Why is it goodbye Marvel? They publish other comic books besides Spider-Man, you know. :oldrazz:

I guess I'll never get that mentality. :(

Geez, if this whole "Spider-Man Unmasked" story leads to MJ being predictably killed by Spider-Tool's villains (nevermind that this idea was toyed with seven years ago in Amazing Spider-Man #13 volume 2 and--surprise, surprise--was a disaster) only to end up with him getting back together with the Black Cat (nevermind that Marvel time and time again went out of it's way to show just how wrong these two were for each other) after just being widowed (which, if I remember, Joe Q HIMSELF has said would make Spider-Tool apppear OLDER and LESS LIKELY TO DATE OTHER PEOPLE AFTER HAVING GWEN AND MJ BOTH KILLED BECAUSE HE WAS SPIDER-MAN--WHICH WAS THE VERY REASON WHY, WHEN MARVEL TRIED TO KILL MJ LAST TIME, IT DID NOT WORK) then they are really screwing themselves. Not to mention proving themselves to be real idiots.

Marvel kills of whole idea for Spidey...(unmasking), if they kill of norbs fav supporting character....I don't pick up any books, lose money marvel does and then marvel will cry...*sorry for sounding like yoda* Just my thing, I hate Joey Q, just wish someone would beat him up.

Well I dont really think one way or the other that MJ's death would stop me from buyign the book. At least, I dont think so. However, I can say that it would really suck to have her go. I learned to read reading comics, but I can say that they have been married for the large majority of my life, and I can't really see 616 Peter w/o her. I would piss me off, and I would be inclined to do a lot of griping about it, but stop reading. Naw. I must say however, that I really think its going to be Aunt May. One article I read, and I wish I had the link states that Joey Q basically said, "how long does one plat thread need to be around before it gets old, oh about 40 years." Or something. All i remember when I read what he said, when I had it in context was that the only 40 y/o plot in spidey I could think of was either Secret idenity, which he bunked up, or Aunt may and her bad health. Either which way you look at it, a shotgun blast to the chest is not really a calling card for any of Spideys villians. But it would be one nasty way to go.

You know what I kind of see as being more likely is not that MJ is killed, but possibly seriously injured. So Pete decides that, if he really loves her, the only way he can protect her is to publicly divorce her. So they mutually decide that, because they love eachother, it has to be over. That way, MJ doesn't die, and she and Pete don't part on bad terms which would leave a very sour taste in fans mouths. I mean, in reality this situation would too, but JoeQ clearly does not have the pulse of the fans, so he would think that this was genius.

People whouldnt even bother dying in Marvel Comics
They should all just become POW go missing or go in a coma
They all get ressurected anyways nobody is ever "dead"

I don't know; people have died and stayed dead in the past in Marvel comics. Clones and alternate-reality personas don't count in my opinion.

The problem is that they started killing off Spider-Man's core cast of characters and couldn't come up with any reasonable replacements.

But even a public divorce wouldn't really protect her, since the villains know that divorced or not, Spidey would be hurt mentally and emotionally if MJ were hurt or killed. It isn't as though a divorce erases her value to Peter.

I've already dropped all 616 Spidey titles so killing of MJ, while it would be a right ball-ach, wouldn't really effect my reading. :)

There's obviously going to be some kind of major mind wipe ala the Flash where everyone will forget Peter's ID... including MJ... and Peter will sacrifice himself by not becoming involved with her... thus proving HOW much he really loves her by not putting her life in danger.

Don't kid yourself. Comic book store owners get inside info- they're the ones that have to sell the stuff. They get solicitations that we never see, and often do get to know industry professionals (That's how they have signings and so forth). So they do get inside scoops. Way back in the 80's I found out about Spidey's costume change months earlier from a comic shop owner.

Which doesn't guarantee this particular rumor being true. But it is possible.

That's what I've been speculating for awhile now (and brought up on Newsarama when Peter first unmasked which was also picked up by several others: http://forum.newsarama.com/showpost.php?p=2081770&postcount=203 ). And yes, even though Joe Q says that mindwipes wouldn't happen, sooner or later, once Marvel realizes what an absolute hole they've dug for themselves, they'll have to resort to something like this in order to save themselves, even though they'll be accused of being cop outs--just like what happened during the Clone Saga.

HELL YEAH!! The only 616 Spidey book I can get behind, right now...and it is DAMN GOOD.

Goodbye to all Marvel?! You obviously aren't reading the following books:

-Punisher Max
-Daredevil
-Ultimates
-Runaways
-Spider-Girl

If I could only keep 5 marvel titles, these would be the ones.

You've obviously never been divorced. ;)

Seriously though, the mind wipe thing is still the best theory going, even though I think it's crap that it's gotten to that point.
