How I Met Your Mother - Part 4

In an earlier episode he revealed that he wanted to name his kids Luke and Leia. Looks like he got his wish for one of the kids at least.

But why is Ted the one who has influence over what the kids are called? Why aren't they named after something meaningful to the mother?
I couldn't remember if it was Ted or Marshal who had intended to name their kids after the twins.

I gotta be honest. I am really glad this show is coming to an end. I am kind of over the characters. They really haven't evolved all that much.

I thought Marshall went a bit far with the consolation prize jab

That moment was so real for me it hurt. I know EXACTLY how he feels and had to go through a similar thing myself. Seeing it triggers some old feelings I didn't really want stirred up.

That question has been bouncing around in his head for a long time and it took this crisis to get it out there. He doesn't feel secure in this relationship, he feels like he comes in second place to her love for art and her coming back and marrying him was her Plan B, something that wasn't her first dream, but she'll settle for it when there isn't something better. With Italy she now has something better, and Marshal wants her to prove his fears wrong. Sadly, running out like that will tend to send him the message that his fears were right.

200th tonight!!!

^ Agreed, that was a very well done episode. But right when it said "Next time on HIMYM" during the end credits, it cut to a preview for "The Crazy Ones." Did that happen for anyone else? I wanted my tease for the next episode!!!

Holy effing balls. Last weeks episode and this weeks are 2 of the best episodes of this show period. Tonights episode was ridiculously great

Happened to me too. Maybe they finally meet and they can't spoil any footage?

It really was. I love the Mother. I hope we don't get any more fillers from now on.

Okay, so after watching tonight's episode, I can't help but feel that ...
the mother is indeed dead and that's why Ted is telling the story. I was sort of expecting them to do what they did with that Robin episode where they would let the mother tell the story, but everything the mother had what seemed to be her own narrative, it turned out that she was talking to someone else. I know this is Ted's story, but even the ways that he would speak about the mother seemed to suggest that she wasn't around. I really hope I am wrong, but I'm beginning to buy into this theory more and more now.

Same happened to me.

Awesome episode. The writers did a surprisingly great job tying together all the loose threads. I was just talking with my brother the other night that I wasn't sure they were going to be able to get the shellfish joke in before the show ended. BUT THEY DID! Hey I'm pretty sure the mother had a necklace with a name on it but I couldn't make it out. Did any of you see it? Was it her name?

I don't think we'll know her name until she finally meets Ted.

I'm not at the point of believing it will happen just yet, but I think the likelihood is definitely much higher than I thought it would be. It would violate the general mood of the narration older Ted has given, and the reactions to it that the kids have been having, but I feel like there's a bit of evidence piling up. It isn't damning evidence, but...

Anyway, LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVED tonight's episode. It was better than the 100th by far. Milioti's performance was amazing. Loved "La Vie En Rose" at the end... apparently it's available on iTunes.

Until there is more evidence, I am sticking with my theory, albeit it may be a stretch now as he mentioned her in a past tense.

The reason she hasn't been around is that she's been on tour with her music.

This was the episode I've been waiting all season, and to an extent the entire series for.

Absolutely fantastic episode. Definitely in my Top 5.

Did anyone else feel bad for the Mother by the end. I mean, it almost made me want her to finally meet Ted more than I ever wanted Ted to meet her.

I still don't like this theory, but the way that Ted said
that as many times as he heard her sing that song, that first time will always be his favorite. It just makes it sound like he'll never hear her sing it again, or there won't ever be another time when he'll love that song more than he did that first time.

One of the posters on IMDB said:

that the kids seemed bored by Ted's story as we see early on. That might indicate that the mother is alive.

Yeah, that's one thing that keeps sticking out in my mind. They wouldn't be like "Dad, can you just **** with this story already?" if it was about their dead mother.

I really think people are starting to over think things in regards to the mothers status in the future...

You're probably right. I think the curveball with the Mother's dead boyfriend is clouding my judgement...

the last two episodes have been really good :D
the mother is so likable, they couldn't have picked anyone better

I just had an awful, terrible thought. The mother is dead, some time has passed between her death and Ted's story. That's why the kids are bored because its been years and they have heard the abridged story before. The reason Ted is telling the story in detail is that it's the only way he can move on and then he announces that he's going to start dating again. Because that's what the Mother would have wanted because that's how she found Ted in the first place.
