The Dark Knight Rises Hugo Strange

Am I the only one who thinks there are still other villians who could serve the upcoming story infinitely better than Hugo Strange? I hate this character to be honest....

Why?

I don't know anything about the script, so I have idea what villain would best serve the story, but I do know Strange leads us in an obvious direction, one that I'm very interested in seeing. What character do you think would fit "infinitely better" than Strange in the context of what you expect to see in TDKR?

I will say this... If Hugo Strange (who I don't mind being the villain) is one of the villains in RISES, then I am certain the female villain will be Talia under an alias (announced as the love interest).

Always the same argument. :whatever:
If people don't want to hear it, they should stop bringing up Talia. It's a true argument. Her potential in the story is extremely limited, and you'd know what you're getting from her from the very beginning. "You killed my daddy so I'm going to kill you too! :waa:" Some have pointed out that she's had a rocky relationship with Ra's in recent years. If that's the case, why bring her in at all? If she didn't care that her father got killed, why the hell even bother with hunting Batman down? If you think Talia would be a good villain, you should be able to give a more concrete reason for that instead of your own oft repeated mantra that "we haven't seen her in a movie before."

True argument?
It´s a stupid argument.
She doesn´t need to show up necessarily for revenge.
Nolan can make it in a different way.
I trust him,you should do the same.
For you it may be a true argument for not using her, but not for Nolan. You don´t know.

I managed to find all the single issues of Prey for a good price on eBay today, so I should be reading it soon!

"Prey" is one of those out-of-print graphic novels that always seem to sell for a high price on Ebay (something around $30 for a used book whose cover price was much lower, if I remember correctly)- but there are plenty of trades floating around comic conventions and the used shelves of comic stores, for only a few dollars, if you have the patience to look.

I kept an eye on on Ebay for years, but rarely saw one go for cheap. Finally, I bit the bullet and picked one up for more than I should have on Ebay. Not three weeks later, I found one in a comic book shop for four bucks. And then two months later, I saw SEVERAL copies for sale, also for only a few bucks, at a comic convention.

ARGH.

Anyway, it's a great story and a great followup to "Year One" - way back when "Legends of the Dark Knight" was really focused on Year One-style stories.

I liked "Prey", but why is no one talking about "Batman and the Monster Men"? I thought that was the superior post-crisis Hugo Strange story.

Monster Men is cool, just doesn't have such an obvious TDKR tie-in as Prey does.

Matt Wagner's stuff is usually pretty pulpy and simple, not necessarily cerebral. I would love to see Strange make some roid-raging cannibals in TDKR, but the heady aspects of his reason for being are more touched on in Prey.

I still need to read up some more on Hugo Strange...You guys are right the prices for Prey are ridiculous...even used copies of it on Amazon go for quite a bit. May pick up Monster Men, as it's not too much.

Just a few weeks ago... I thought Hugo Strange would be one of the worst follow-ups to Joker and TDK. Now, after reading everything in this thread (and the Tom Hardy thread)... I'm totally sold. I'd be dissapointed if Hugo Strange was not one of the villains in TDKR.

I wasn't even familiar with Hugo Strange (never really been into the comics before - mostly just the movies and the whole concept of Batman) but now I'm looking up comics and graphic novels online.

I really think Hugo Strange and Catwoman would make for an awesome end to this trilogy. Deadshot and Bane still intrigue me too, though.

I don't even think of The Riddler anymore. Thanks for the enlightment everyone.

If will be Strange and Catwoman,I will lost all the interest to see the movie.

What I don't like about "Batman and the Monster Men" is the fantastical, mad scientist aspects of it. "Prey" felt much more grounded in reality.

You, who is proclaiming to have all faith in Nolan? Faith isn't worth s**t when everything goes as you want, you know. Real faith is when you hear something you don't like about the movie and still believe that Nolan can pull it off.

Having said that, you'll be there opening day.

i won't lose interest, but i won't feel the same anticipation for the movie if the villains would have been Black Mask or Penguin. Hugo Strange i find rather boring. Catwoman is cool though :word:
