The Dark Knight Rises Ideas For Incorporating Characters Into the Nolanverse

I'd like to see Nolan's take on a more unrealistic villain like Killer Croc. I think it'd be cool to see how Nolan would make Croc seem real. But I'd be fine with Riddler, Penguin or Catwoman.

I hate villain team-up, every Batman movie had this.

Nolan's haven't. Begins had Scarecrow being duped by Ra's and I hardly think Joker and Two-Face teamed up.

i think he meant the old ones but in a way ra's and Scarecrow was a team up

I like that Nolan's movies are more inventive with their "team-ups." The whole thing of two bad guys dancing around each other until they say "let's join forces and kill the Batman!" it's just so...90s.

I don't really call the Joker-Two-Face a team up. Joker really had no way of being sure Dent would snap; I think he just decided "oh well, it can't hurt" and did his thing with Dent.

I don't really get the character of Catwoman...but maybe she could be written as a vigilantess who takes on mob figures in her area of Gotham? With Batman on the run it'll be tough for him to cover all of Gotham so naturally there'd be some areas that are more neglected than others.

Yeah she protected the eastend I think she should be kind of a mix of villain and anti hero she steals from the mob for herself but also gives some to the East End people and protects them but yeah Nolan is inventive with the team ups and seems more real to life I mean Scarecrow making a drug deal with Falcone and then betraying him and Ra's doing them same to him. It kind of shows that these people are villains. Two face and Joker werent really a team up they both had different agendas but Joker was kind of using him as a trump card.

I think with the third one it should be a mixture, like they team up together but they betrary each other and have their own agenda like say Black Mask and Catwoman teamed up Black Mask would use her to get to Batman and to steal for him and Catwoman would use him to get profit but also get info on his plans for the East End. Or Black Mask and Penguin it would be more like the mob and Lau, Black Mask would just be buying of Penguin.

I like the idea of Batman inspiring Selina to create her own costume persona. She would start with small jobs, and use the proceeds of each job to progressively upgrade her equipment. I can also play her having a crush on Batman, and she wants to use her Catwoman identity to get close to him. Tricky though; I wouldn't want to make her a Batman groupie or anything like that. Basically Selina is a good person who's been kicked around most of her life and lacks a moral focus, and she latches onto Batman as an inspiration.

Really, the reason I'm so hung up on Eva Green playing Catwoman is because of how well she played Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale. The way I see it, the way the relationship between James and Vesper played out fits exactly how I could see a movie going between Batman and Catwoman, all right down to the supposed "reverting back to traitorous/criminal ways", and the love supposedly falling apart, when it's all just a ploy to try to save Bond/Batman.

Interesting topic!

How i invision Nolan's villians...

Mr.Freeze - Victor Fries
> I would introduce Dr.Victor Fries as a normal doctor at the newly rebuild Gotham General Hospital. Dr.Fries is a leading surgeon in auto-immune diseases that cripple and blind people by attacking the nerv system, this is to how he meet his wife who was a suffer of one of those diseases. Dr.Fries uses Nitrogen Crystals to isolate damaged cells to stop further spread almost killing the viruses. However the procedure is experimental and rases alot of ethical questions about the patiants treatment, he is given a nickname of "Mr.Freeze" because of the treatment. However Dr.Fries is a guy who is obessed with solving this problem and will go to any length to do it. In regards to the story of the film, he would be fired from his job when one of his patiants who was in early stages of the diseases ends up becoming worse, blind and crippled probably. Dr.Fries is sued and sentanced for prison howeover he manages to escape, becoming desperate he becomes a danger to others... Thats where Batman steps in and stops him. I see him as a movie ploy to either start off the movie or end the movie showing where Batman becomes Gothams last line of defense.

Pengiun - I think this character is unique and should really stray much from the comics However, i believe that maybe we should re-imagine him as just a comical character, neither villian or friend but if i was to give him one word i would say... Avoidable. Bruce Wayne has alot of parties, or attends alot of them, I could see the Pengiun appearing as a cameo at one of them, showing what happens when money is given to the lower class with no taste. Imagine the scene ledger/joker crases the wayne party, if Pengiun was there i would imagin he would sell out where harvey dent is so he would be safe...

Riddler - alot of people dont like the idea of Robin, Nightwing or Batgirl being batmans sidekick in the movie. But i've always question why Batman wants to work alone when he never had a sidekick before... This is where the Riddler comes in, initially what i would do is make Edward Nashton discover the identity of Batman as Bruce Wayne and he offers to help him. Become an allie, Nashton is smart. Super-Smart, and would be an incredible asset to Batman's cause. However Nashton will pursue the path to find his goal even if it goes into illegal activities... which would play on Bruce's concious... I feel that Edward Nashton would initially be great as Bruce considers a sidekick but then decides hes better to work alone. As Nashton becomes consumed by his own cause that he doesnt realise he has become the villian. And so if batman 4 occured we could consider Robin and why Batman has reservations for letting him team up.

The Black Mask - is quiet interesting really, as he would fit well in Batman 3 for many reasons. If i was nolan i would consider making Roman Sioas a member of the board at waynes enterprises. I think the way to say it is Bitter Sweet. Roman's family business was brought out by Wayne Enterprises and Roman the son of that family wants to seek revenge on his family part as The Sioas family and Wayne family were friends... THINK Magneto and Xavier... Two friends, Two familes that were united were seperated and now they are greatest enemies, however in this case Bruce doesnt know what Romans true motives are and a whole duel identity thing occures where you have Bruce as Batman and Roman as Black Mask.

Scareface and Wesker - I would pair these with Black Mask and have them as members of the mob that works for the Black Mask.

Catwoman - Wrong place, wrong time... I feel the current economic climate reflects why someone like Selena Kyle and her passion to become a cat theif... I would re-age her making her more a student with alot of debts to pay. But Gotham is going through its own recession and so Selena is unable to find work to pay for her own apartment, she had skills, gymnastic skills. Plus shes very charasmatic so she could charm her way out of stuff but she doesnt and she desperet to keep her world the way it is... And with one out of place suggestion here or there she decides to theive things. Batman would catch but sympothises with her causes and points her to the direction of wayne enterprises where she would get an internship.

Manbat - would be a figment of Batmans own mind if he was starting to become drugged or hillucinating. Man-Bat would be a manifestation of his own fear where he mentally becomes batman and stops thinking about himself as Bruce Wayne.

A more cerebral, psychological, mystery crime thriller would be great to see in this next Bat film from Nolan.

I would definitely like to see Selina because she would add an emotional and intriguing dynamic to the story. Bruce needs someone like her in his life and she needs someone like him just the same. It would be great to see a true and more ideal interpretation of Selina/Catwoman onscreen and yes she needs to be a brunette. Perhaps interwine Selinas' tragic past by having Sionis be her father and possibly him being responsible for her mothers murder? Just an idea.....but I know how I would introduce Selina. They would first meet at one of Sionis' company galas and then later during their first official date Bruce and Selina truly connect and fall for each other after she tells him her story which we would see threw a flashback. She would already know the famous Bruce Waynes' tragic past. Sionis would be the head of Janus Cosmetics, and would be portrayed in his 50's in the film. When he was younger, he was a rival of Thomas Waynes' and during that time he met and fell in love with Circe, his executive assistant/secretary. They had a child Selina, but Sionis had dark secrets of course and when Selina was older (perhaps 10-12 years old) her mother Circe witnessed the torture and murder of one of Thomas Waynes' former associates at the hands of Sionis. During the flashback, we would also see the young Selina and her mother playing with the family cat. A henchmen felt sorry for what Sionis was going to do to Circe, so he warned her and Circe hid Selina somewhere at the home but it was too late. Selina hears the murder of her mother, but does not actually see it. While Sionis and his thugs try to dispose of the bodies of both the Wayne associate and Circe, Selina has her chance to dial 911 and the police come but not before Sionis disposes of the bodies. Sionis is aquitted due to the "unreliablity of young Selinas' testimony. However, the court does not allow Sionis custody of Selina, and she is at a boarding home, and then eventually runs away. She is taken in by a "lady of the night/con artist" in the Narrows whose last name is Kyle. The woman still has a good soul and she cares for Selina, but knows that Selina deserves better. She sends her to a local Narrows Martial Arts Master who disciplines, educates, and trains Selina. The martial arts master also has a pet cat, that Selina grows to adore as she once did the family cat at the Sionis home. As she grows older she uses her skills to become a small time thief herself, stealing and vandalizing from big corporations that Janus is associated with and from Janus itself. Bruce also tells Selina he remembers his father talking about the Sionis trial with his mother and was surprised to find out Selina is Sionis' daughter. Selina discloses to Bruce, that she is a social worker (by day of course) and is currently volunteering in the community redevelopment of the Narrows. She even admits to Bruce that she has a resentment toward the Batman and blames him for the mess that occured at the Narrows and that he is part of the reason why Gotham is the way it is....but she still respects what the Batman is trying to do. She of course doesn't let Bruce know of her intent to avenge the murder of her mother and kill Sionis.

I also would love to see the addition of Dr Leslie Thompkins in the next film in a minor yet strong supporting role. She would bring some drama, motherly emotion, and also some potentially fun and flirty scenes with Alfred. An easy way to introduce her would be for Alfred to ask for the assistance of an old flame of his and a former friend and colleague of Thomas Waynes. Her surgical experience is needed to help a badly and critically beaten Bruce after a near fatal confrontation (mainly due to physical and mental fatigue from running from the cops and trying to solve the illegal arms dealing or trying to catch the mysterious Riddler murders) with a hired mob assassin who is also a member of the League of Shadows secretly (possibly Deadshot, Deathstroke, Bane or Lady Shiva). Bruce does not want Alfred to get Leslie involved, but Alfred calls upon her anyway. The scenes between Alfred, Leslie and Bruce should be emotional scenes with some fun also. The scenes between Alfred and Leslie will be fun, witty, and flirty scenes with some good humor. The scenes between Bruce, Alfred and Leslie will be probably be emotional scenes since Leslie will lecture Bruce for being the man behind the cowl and Alfred for allowing Bruce do this and aiding him. This would give us the opportunity to see all three at the Wayne gravesite located on the premises of the new Wayne Manor also. During his recovery it would also allow Bruce to do heavy detective work to try and solve the Riddler riddles or try to catch and prove the illegal arms activity and murder that has been done by Sionis and Cobblepot. Us fans and the general movie audience would finally get to see Bruce in the new Bat Cave do heavy detective work and we can also see Bale/Bruce do some working out in the new cave to get physically and mentally strong again. It would be good to see some heavy bag work, weightlifting, stretching, and weapon work. It would be cool to see him not just working out physically but also mentally, meditating the mind and body in preparation for whats ahead. With the track that was used when Bruce was testing out the big gun in TDK and when he was painting the suit black in the cave in BB as the background music, these ICONIC and AWESOME scenes would be just great for us fans and the general movie audience to see onscreen.

I feel that Sionis or Cobblepot can work. Perhaps even having them work hand in hand? Penguin doesn't have to be this extravagant heavy baddie for the film and I think he could fit nicely into Nolans world as a minor supporting character (much like Falcone, Maroni, Scarecrow were used) who is a seedy and shady night club owner who is also involved in black market arms dealing. He would be the one who is selling arms to Sionis and his cult/mob members.

I would like to see Batman be more brutal and punish criminals more in this film by seeing some arms, legs, shoulders, hands, knees and noses broken. I would be good to see Batman using his elbows, knees and wrist blades more when fighting and I would also like to see some more brazilian jujitsu and see Batman body slam foes with authority by using jujitsu moves as well. Since we didn't see much of the batarangs and smoke bombs in TDK, I think it's time we see those weapons and gadgets put to use in practical ways and not over the top ways. We got a small peak of those weapons in BB, and this next film would be the time to see the Batman use them when fighting or in stealth mode or when he needs to get away from the GCPD.

I think Batman should have more checkpoints or safehouses in different areas of the city like he did in TDK for him to basically "disappear into the night" when things get dicey around Gotham City, especially with the cops hunting him down.

I still haven't figured out a way to fit Riddler into the mix yet though. I figured out how to incorporate Catwoman, Dr. Thompkins, Sionis, and "Penguin".....but not Riddler quite yet. Plus Gordon and Fox scenes need to be added to the mix. The mysterious hitman assassin, would be relatively easy. In the end I also think perhaps, the assassin should end up killing Sionis (because Batman convinces Catwoman to not do it) remember the assassin would be a member of the League of Shadows, and then toward the end we would see a hint of possibly Talia Head taking over Janus Cosmetics?

Hmm.....let the brainstorming continue.......

Batman 3 setting should take place a year later than the first one. Most of the mob has gotten out of jail. With no one in position as the mob boss and all seconds in command either dead or in hiding. A man called the Black Mask steps in and reforms the mob.
Meanwhile a killer is killing off young actors of play. He was just taken in to custody. He wore disguises to kill.
Simultaneously Edward Nashton(psychologist and genius. who has multi personality disorder) moves to gotham to help the government figure out who batman is. He takes a job at akham as a rehabilitator and psychotherapist. He figures out who batman is and how a harvey dent died as well as who killed who in the previous movie. He does not tell the police what he knows and simply says he need more time. It shows a conspiracy theory in his apartment (newspaper pics and other stuff, that is the actual story of the last film).

There is gang war going on between masked and non masked. Black mask is the leader of a torn mob. He controls the majority of thugs. Batman is further complicating the war. Black mask hires an unknown to kill batman(he never misses, floyton lawd, deadshot). He fails. Nashton steps in to sell black mask the identity. Black mask just captures and tortures him. At first he refuses to tell. He claims it is an expensive riddle. Black mask burns a giant question mark in his chest, for not saying. Black Mask does not kill him just because he needs batman's identity. Edward manages to escape the building he is being held after killing the people holding him hostage(2 guards).

For some reason Edward believes this is batman's fault. So he invents a plan to kill batman and black mask. the next time you see him he wears a dark green suit jacket with no shirt and matching top hat, also dark green leather pants(think jim morrison), He holds a cane also).

It would be cool if Selina was in some way connected to Janus Industries like she was once Sionis' executive assistant/ secretary and when the company fell through she and many others lost their jobs mainly in the East End and she now protects that part of Gotham and steals money for them as Catwoman maiking her sort of an Anti-Hero

I would love to see The Penguin play a role similar to Max Shreck in Batman Returns. Cobblepot is a respected, eccentric businessman who uses his clout to help The Riddler.
Whereas Riddler is a neurotic, vainglorious monster intent only on exalting himself, The Penguin is shrewd and remarkably sane. Seeing The Riddler as a chance to be rid of Batman and go about his criminal operations in peace.
The Riddler uses Penguin's goons to aid him in his Riddle-ambushes against Batman and sees Cobblepot as vital to maintaining his hypnotic control over Gotham.
It's a very symbiotic relationship. Both need each other.

If bane ever did appear in batman 3(unlikely), I would like to see Venom.

VENOM
I'd like to see bane not hulk-bane(recent version in which he goes up dramatically in size after use). Venom should be an opioid, steroid, and epinephrine(adrenaline) mix. It has many good short term effects including enhanced vision, reflexes, increased endurance, numbing of pain, and muscle altering effects. In some users it focuses the mind, allowing for clear thinking even in the toughest combat situations(allowing users to think quicker and solve problems more strategically), although it can cause anxiety, insomnia, and induce hallucinations.
The long term effects include enhanced muscle gain, severe addiction, greatly increased anger(especially in angry people), insanity, and heart failure.
It has less opium in it than morphine, so it is harder to overdose. Sometimes users get artificial hearts(Wayne industries developed the best artificial hearts) so they can take larger amounts, those that have artificial hearts sometimes have it administered directly to the brain and heart. Usually intensifying the effects even more.

Story
Janus Industries is the military supplier and creator of this drug. It is very controversial and is illegal for recreational use. The only way to get the drug without a military contact is through Pamela Isley(dubbed posion ivy by her clients) a drug dealer who gets her drugs under the counter from roman sionis(black mask, Janus Industries CEO).

Janus Industries new military drug line is slowly ruining the company. There less than noble CEO Roman Sionis is suspected of being a member of the mob and partaking in illegal activities.
Black mask took over and reformed the mob.

Pamela Isley(Poison Ivy, a play on her name given to her by her colleagues) is a drug importer and distributor who now works for Black Mask. She is addicted plastic surgery, hates most people, and has a natural immunity to many mind altering toxins, drugs, and chemicals. She is possibly distributing drugs do to her hate for society(to kill the human race quicker), she loves nature as well.

Bane is a mysterious, possibly genius, ex inmate of a south american prison who has modified his body through venom and other drugs. He has an artificial heart(supplied with venom) and implants that feed directly into the blood stream to his brain. He is extremely masculine, his body is the equivalent of an olympic body builder. He is unique to other villains in the fact that he will kill people trying to kill batman. Th is due to him wanting to get the ultimate kill(batman).

^ That's pretty cool; in my mind, Bane is the only villain that can be as threatening as Ras Al Ghul or The Joker.

I love Bane. I think the Knightfall saga resides in the top 5 greatest Batman stories. It's the one that converted me into reading Batman comics, and led me to all the great stories. I would love to have Bane for a third film, or any upcoming film. Not like that crap they put in B&R. Boy was I pissed when I found out Bane was a complete moron in that film. Just a mindless hulk (which he's far from). I think it would be cool to see some sort of adaptation of Vengeance of Bane in any format.

GREAT, great stuff.

I took most of the inspiration from real world things such as opium and steroids, but black mask ruining his company is in the comics, as well as venom.

The only way to make any of the villains work is to ground them in reality and them mold them into the nolan verse.

UNDERSTANDING BANE
If you don't like bane, who is one of the smartest and best tacticians in the world(like goodwill hunting mixed with captain america with a side of rambo), just read The Vengeance of Bane(comic) and you will like the character more and understand him.

Bane is probably one of the most unique of batman's rogues(the others include joker, ras al guhl, talia, and catwoman). (the only reason i include catwoman and talia is because they're torn lovers, seperated by fate, but also drawn together).

Key
There's always those good villains, the thing they need to realize is that the characters themselves are good characters. Comics are visual aided stories, so the people in them have personalities and unique characteristics. Take the basic character apply it to modern issues and themes, and then adapt it to the already created story(which nolan has done, just don't make another spiderman 3).

^ Again, interesting. In BB, Ras Al Ghul was a threat to Gotham because of his own belief that he was doing something noble; in TDK, The Joker was a maniac that was a BIG threat to the city simply because he wanted chaos, and to prove that everyone is just as bad as him. How would somebody like Bane threaten Gotham? From my understanding, even though he is a killer, he is more focused on controlling the city, not destroying it, or killing its citizens. For Bane to work, he needs to be a threat to more people than just Batman.

In the comics bane killed groups of people just to make himself known to batman. This villain would be more of a personal villain. Although he involves all of gotham. Bane also released all inmates of arkham in the comics.
In my possible story I mentioned black mask as well as posion ivy. Im not sure if I want to add Deadshot simply as an assassin(tries to kill gordan, to substitute for the assassin in the comics).

The key is to not overcomplicate the story.

Cool. Would you be opposed to the idea of Bane injuring Batman in the middle of the movie and Batman coming back to face him in the end? I know it would be a little cluttered, but I don't think the movie should end with Batman breaking his back. It would make a great come-back story.

If you do agree, what would Bane's "master plan" be at the end of the movie? (Ras used fear gas to cause panic among Gotham's citizens, The Joker threatened the people on the fierries.
