The Dark Knight Rises Ideas For Incorporating Characters Into the Nolanverse

I like the no gun thing, Maybe he has this tank on his back connected to this welding looking tool (tank on back is full of the chemical which goes through the tube into the welding type squirt gun type thing.)
Something like this:
jk57f2.jpg

real low tech looking.

I would just be worried about the whole cryogenics thing, I mean I know its realistic because people do it (and they don't know how to undo it yet),
but
I hesitate because I wouldn't want it to end up like Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2.
He invents these extra arms that connect to his brain and run on artificial intellegence but thats not his major and world changing break through, no one makes a huge deal out of that.
I don't know if I am explaining myself correctly but while I was trying to think up his story I kept feeling like cryogenics and using his wife as a test subject seemed unrealistic.

Anyway,
I think if Mr. Freeze, like we suggested (I actually hadn't read your post before I posted mine), if he was more low tech then he would be more realistic.
5-suit-1.jpg
UPS_sideview-1.jpg

Not saying his suit would look like either one of these, just low tech like these. Maybe with some tubes and wires.

Perhaps a more grounded Mr Freeze would be someone who suffers from an extreme case of photosensitivity, an allergy to heat.

Do any of these changes that some of us are suggesting really upset Mr. Freeze or any other Batman bad guy fans?
If this idea (mine, not using anyone else's idea as an example) if my idea was put into a movie would that really tick off fans?
Or would people be mostly OK with that you think?

Like, my brother is a big Joker fan and he does not like what he sees in the Batman commercials. But I am a big Ras al Ghul (spelling?) fan but the changes they made didn't bother me.

^ Some people just see characters one way and one way only and if there's any change to said character in another form of media, regardless of whether it's good or not, they will consider it inferior. It's just a fear thing, they're not open to the possibility of seeing something new and different for fear it will destroy the character they know.

id love it to see the batman animated series mister freeze

but id also like to see some one put adifferent more realistic feel to him to

its like frankenstein monster has been reinvented many of times but its still the same character

its like the english language is constantly evolving through modern times, if the character is strong enough then they still survive

i dont know if i agree with every change of the joker but i am also exited to see what they do and what changes (that may not be as apparant as we all make out on these boards) effect that ICON

I think the only way to do Freeze is the animated series way. I'd hate for someone to just ultimately change his backstory or the character himself. That's why I think a new director would come in by the time Mr. Freeze comes in. I expect to see Catwoman and Riddler back though. Penguin too. Freeze not so much unless a new director comes in and Bale decides to stay.

I think, if the Mr. Freeze character was used (and the idea of him being a normal human was used), and they had his emotions suddenly go numb (dead) because of the shock of him becoming a murderer,
then he would be like the Mr. Freeze from the cartoon, exactly (in terms of the character's character.)
I think they just use the Mr. Freeze from the cartoon, update him for the real world movie (with things like making him a nromal human, his wife stuck in animation, his freeze gun is very very low tech, and stuff like we have been talking.)
I say the most important thing to capture would be the emotions and personality and character of Victor Friese/ Mr. Freeze.

But I also agree that most characters wont see the light of day. Most likely Nolan will stop around film 3, perhaps film 4
(or maybe he likes the Batman stuff so much he will try to stick around longer, sort of like Harry Potter films. I mean who says a superhero film has to end at film 3? I could see Nolan sticking around for characters like Catwoman, then Riddler, then Panguin, the more realistic characters.)
After that, most likely 3 or 4 films, Nolan and Bale will have left and that version of Batman will end there or a different director and actor will try to continue that version of the franchise.

But most likely characters like Mr. Freeze, Riddler, Panguin, Poison Ivy, Killer Croc, Bane, Black Mask, and others will never be on Nolan's big screen just because he wants to move on to something new.
and not because some are hard or impossible to do.

But thats whats fun about this, we can always imagin what could happen.
Coming up with great ideas like the Killer Croc idea, designs which would also make wonderful comic stuff (I do think they could and should continue the Batman Begins Nolan universe in a alternate reality comic, it could be called Nolan's Batman. Or it could be called something good.)

Ya know I just wanna say that no matter what villains u try to bring into the real world like Nolans- the name should be the last thing to worry about. I mean i can understand that the name of a villain or any comic book character is one of the most powerful elements that can be hard to convince anyone of that character actually being able to conform to `realism`. But what about the press? U can always write in the movie that it was the press who named a certain villain or hero lyk "bugman, super monster beast, or the space creature, etc". The scene in Spider-man 2 when they name Doctor Octopus where it seems lyk the movie itself admits its kind of silly or just very unrealistic and comic life is actually not that fictional itself. I`m from staten island and you can look this up online about a mysterious burglar that we`ve had running around and breaking into peoples homes stealing stuff for the past year. The papers have named this guy "The Ninja Burglar" (really look it up im not kidding)...he`s been named that because he seems to be stealthy, he`s hit lyk 10 houses already and still hasnt been caught, and the best eyewitness is also a victim right down the block from me who caught the guy in his kitchen and he said the ninja dude was armed with nunchucks so he got away. Well the point here is it really happend and if strange things can really happen then why not in the fictional world where nick names can exist no matter how silly for a character?

I'd like to see Cassandra Cain more than anyone else in the films. Not necessarily as Batgirl, I just want the character to finally show up in a media other than the comics. I doubt that it'll ever happen, but I can dream, right? Anyway, I see movie Cassandra Cain as being very similar to the comic version, but with a couple of changes. Here's how I would do her:

A child trafficking ring has partially set up shop in Gotham, and it's up to Batman to stop it. This issue is particularly personal for Bruce, since he fully understands the pain of losing one's innocence at an early age. The ring initially appears to completely normal, mostly trafficking people for sexual slavery and child labor. As Bruce investigates deeper and deeper though, he discovers that the ring is being run by his old friends the League of Shadows. A LoS member named David Cain has been kidnapping children from birth and training them to be assassins as some part of a twisted eugenics program.

Later on Batman gets in over his head, mostly due to his unwillingness to fight the waves of children that Cain sends at him. He eventually gets some unlikely help in the form of Cain's daughter and best protégé , a taciturn, teenage Eurasian girl named Cassandra. The films ends with the League of Shadows losing a second time, and Bruce and Cassandra parting ways.

This plot would introduce the character without giving Batman a lasting sidekick, while also opening the door for Batgirl if the producers ever want to add her later on.

I would like to see characters sort of messed up in the other Batman films (like Two-Face, Riddler, Poison Ivy, Bane, especially Mr. Freeze, and to lesser extents Panguin and Cat Woman) finally done close enough to being done right or bringing the comics to life as much as possible finally.

Mr. Freeze was just destroyed in that film.
I hope that doesn't sound like I am unwilling to look at characters shown in a new direction.

If Bale is willing to do a Justice League movie after BAtman #3, then maybe it is possible to include (by that time) characters who are far more unreal because in the JLA film he will be a character in a world where Superman is an alien who can fly and Green Lantern is a super alien cop, and Wonder Woman is an importal amazon warrior.

So maybe bith he and Nolan would be willing to do characters like Clay Face, Killer Croc, Mr. Freeze, just in a slightly more realistic way.
Maybe those films could have the theme that (around the time the JLA get together) super powered beings are popping up everywhere including Gothem.
That would effect Batman and give him a new story arc.
Almost like Heroes or X-Men from the point of view of Gothem's sworn protector.

Riddler: Edward Nashton suffered childhood abuse at the hands of his father and his classmates. He was a brilliant child, and enjoyed solving puzzles. One day, he plays a puzzle game against his father. He wins easily, but his father believes he cheated. His father punishes him harshly for this. His classmates mock and tease him constantly for his bookish nature. This trauma causes him to develop Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, which manifests itself in the form of using riddles and puzzles to prove his intelligence. Years later, he works as a code-breaker for the National Security Agency. He breaks U.S. government codes in his spare time, purely for personal enjoyment. When this habit is discovered, he is fired. His firing causes him to go over the edge, and he begins to commit acts of terrorism. He sends riddles to the police, with the answers informing them of the targets of his bombings. After witnessing Batman preventing a bombing, he begins to dress in more eccentric fashion, wearing a pale green suit and carrying a green cane. He begins posting his riddles on the internet to challenge Batman specifically, in a quest to prove he is smarter. He also becomes obsessed with attempting to deduce Batman's identity. He eventually realizes Batman is Bruce Wayne, but promises not to reveal it, because everyone else must figure it out for themselves. Played by Edward Norton.

Alternatively: Edward Nashton was abused as a child, ect. He becomes a professor of mathematics at Gotham State University, but is fired for his abusive behavior toward faculty members and students who challenge his intelligence. He then begins targeting those who wronged him, sending riddles of their identities to police and sending them bombs through the mail. Inspired by Ted Kacynski, the Unambomber.

Catwoman: Selina Kyle is a cat-loving professional thief and confidence woman. She poses as a dominatrix as part of a con of a member of the Gotham mob, which is where she acquires her affinity for whips. Her suit is a skin-tight black suit with a black mask. She uses high tech gadgets to assist her in her thefts. Selina Kyle poses as a spoiled socialite to cover her crimes, claiming to have inherited money from her parents. She initially attempts to con Bruce Wayne, but ends up having feelings for him. Played by Angelina Jolie.

Poison Ivy: Pamela Isley, a brilliant botanist, is also a radical environmentalist who resorts to eco-terrorism to promote her agenda. She uses her knowledge of biochemistry to create organic poisons, and assassinates several prominent polluters. Bruce Wayne becomes a target, due to her dissatisfaction with Wayne Enterprise's environmental standards. She eventually develops a plot to purify the earth by eliminating almost all human life. She attempts to unleash a lethal organic virus she develops.

Mad Hatter
: Jervis Tetch, a computer programmer, lives a lonely adult life after a childhood of abuse at the hands of his father. As a child, he preferred to read rather than spend time with other children. His favorite book was Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. His father thought his son's obsession was pathetic, and beat him. As an adult, he finds love with his Secretary, Alice. When she rejects his advances, he snaps and kills her. Overcome by grief, he seeks to recapture his childhood by escaping into the reality of his favorite book. To this end, he begins kidnapping young girls named Alice and playing out his fantasies with them. Eventually, the girls upset him and he murders them. He may be a pedophile, this is never specifically addressed on screen (too dark for a movie to be seen by children). Batman is disturbed by his violation of innocent children, reflecting on his own childhood trauma. The Mad Hatter, as the press dubs him, eventually takes his game to a larger level, as he kidnaps several prominent members of Gotham to play a full version. He plans to broadcast the game over the internet, on an encrypted site (His computer expertise put to good use). Batman manages to intervene in time to stop the killings, and captures Tetch.

Firefly: An orphan whose parents died in a fire he accidentally set while playing with matches as a child. He becomes a pryo-maniac as an adult, and develops a flame-proof suit of armor. He walks around with a flame thrower connected to a tank of gasoline on his back. His body is covered in burns.

Mr. Freeze: Same origin as animated series. Initially commits crimes to raise money for research on his wife. Batman attempts to stop him, and traces him to his hideout. Batman confronts him, and offers to help him cure his wife. Doctor Fries refuses his help, and attacks him. An accident breaks his wife's tank, spilling the freezing liquid all over him. Batman leaves him for dead. Fries uses a gun which squirts liquid nitrogen, and wears the traditional metal suit to keep his body temperature low (less flashy than the B&R version, more like animated series. Played by Patrick Stewart.

Bane: Born and raised in a South American prison. Learns to fight to survive. Experimented on with a new steroid by the prison physician. The steroid makes him powerful and intelligent, but also emotionally unstable and easily provoked. Once he grows strong enough, he breaks out of the prison to Gotham City, to confront the Batman that he has been told of in prison. He does not pump Venom into his veins for in instant strength boost, but rather uses it as he would a real steroid. He never removes his mask. Played by a wrestler/bodybuilder, voiced by Benicio Del Toro.

I agree entirely, the press does this with serial killers, look at Ed Gein " The Ghoul of Plainfeild" or Albert Fish, the infamous Cannibal also know as the Gray Man, The Brooklyn Vampire,Werewolf of Wysteria, and The Bogeyman or even mobsters like Al "Scarface"Capone.

Earlier I posted about how they have created an exoskeleton that makes a person stronger, or reinforces their strength. This was about how Mr. Freeze's armored suit wouldn't be too unrealistic.

Well I finally found it.
Its called the The Sarcos robotic exoskeleton

Don't know if this has been mentioned or not yet,

but they are making a Batman Anime that takes place between Batman Begins and Dark Knight. The villains featured include Scarecrow, Killer Croc, and Deadshot.

Scarecrow's story, I think, is meant to be about Batman (someone who uses fear as a weapon) fighting a man who does the same (I guess sort of like a mirror of Batman). Scarecrow looks more like his comic self.

Killer Croc is another mirror story, Batman is a urban legend in Gothem and now he must fight another urban legend. Croc's design looks more like a deformed mutant human or something.

Deadshot's is yet another mirror story of Batman. He is a wealthy man who is highly trained in weapons and combat, and who also wears armor. Only he uses guns, thrives on action, violence, and death. This story is sort of like what Batman could be also. Deadshot's design is similar to the comic only they give him a coat and a hole on his mask for his mouth.

So these characters are technically in the Nolan Batman universe.

Mr. Freeze: His wife is preserved by cryogenics, and as "reminder" of his wife, he locks himself in a freezing suit, as punishment to himself and as a reminder to what his wife must go through until he finds the cure for her disease. This, in turn, would motivate Freeze to keep on the move to do whatever it takes to develop the means to cure his wife.

Killer Croc- Wears a lizard's head to hide his own face after some freak accident that ruined it (a medical condition, as his history says, or something like a car accident).

The Riddler- Would probably have to be more neutral, leaving riddles so as to (supposedly) help Batman throughout a given film, then revealed to be in on another villain's job.

The Penguin- Could be brought in to have some connection to a "Long Halloween"--esque incident (so as to take over Gotham with his own mob), who has some odd obsession with Penguins (his nose could just be long and narrow, and since he's a bit of a nut, he sews his fingers together to imitate fins).

i think i've pretty much solved the Fries thing. Sad thing is I really can't disclose much because it'd be an idiot move on my part to leak it to the internet and my agent would be pissed.

Regardless, some of the best stuff in here echo's what I came up with. Freeze's motivation is def. played along the lines of the cure for the disease being found, but not for the cryonics aspects. Which plays into the theme of "selfishness" if he's trying to find the cure for his wife AND himself to get out of the cryo-stasis mode.

And his motivation for "freezing" people....well. It makes a lot more sense than anything in this thread. The few people I trust have seconded my idea that not only are his reasons selfish but properly motivated and justified.

I know I'm being a dick by not letting it loose and acting all high and mighty, but i hate having to hold my tongue about it all.

So where are you taking this idea? Are you allowed to mention where we might possibly see it?

In dealing withe the reaming villains of the Batman lure if you will i haven't seen a thread souly for interpretations and ideas for transitions of these characters into the Nolanverse for his final film of the series. OK. so which villains are we most likely to see in the third.

Riddler
Penguin
Catwoman
Ivy

These characters can be easily introduced into his world. how?

Riddler.- Done much in the way of the Movie " Se7en" Can be the central villains leaving riddles at each of his crime scenes. but with nolans mind i think we are in for an interpritations we are not expecting much like Ledger did with the Joker.

Penguin- the easiest of the Bunch. can serve as an Mod Boss or even someone much in the Political world connect with Dents Past. someone that would challnge dent in the next film and reveal even more of his past.

Catwoman- Her story and origin, if she is included is key to the film, i believe she needs to portrayed as a assassin in the film, One that Stalks Her Prey, which could coin her name Catwoman in the film. one that only takes out those that are corrupt. or similar to those that wronged her in her past. Kind of like "the Bride" from Kill Bill. kind of to show them the pain they she felt when she lost something dear in her life etc.

Poison Ivy- doesn't really have to be able to control plants in a literal sense. can be like catwoman in the fact see is bent on revenge. maybe a killer that becomes a call girl and poisons her victims and leave ivy leaves at the scene. i also don't believe she has to be a main character. also she could be paired with catwoman. in trying to take down the mob internally.

Any Ideas for more on the preceding or other batman villains?...
Clayface
Scarface
freeze
Bane
Harley quinn etc.

I really didn't know where to post this. so if it has to be moved sorry.

Why does everyone have to be reinvented as a serial killer or assassin?

Why did Catwoman have to be reinvented at all?

I think people have this idea of what Nolan does with the characters and it's not really true. He's not reinventing the characters. He gave the Joker a new visual aesthetic, came up with a purpose for Scarecrow's gimmick, and, as far as we know, made Ra's mortal. Other than that, he sticks to the book.

Catwoman-Orphaned since childhood, Selina Kyle spent almost all her life in the streets of Gotham's Narrows, she got trained by an ex-champion, called Ted Grant, she became an expert in fighting when she got only twenty, but when her trainer died, she got alone and found herself in the streets again, where she met Holly, a young prostitute who became her best friend. Both became very close, but Holly got killed once she heard a conversasion between his most frecuent client (Carmine Falcone) and Salvatore Maroni. When this happened, Selina returned to get revenge, by becoming Carmine's personal headache (not knowing he's actually her biological father) and stealing from his house and killing one of his bodyguards one night (thinking it was actually Falcone), when she killed him, she felt so bad that she swore never killing anyone again, but she actually liked stealing from other people, so she took an alias and a costume, so she started to be from that momment, The Catwoman, the most dangerous cat burglar from Gotham City narrows.

This is just a draft, I am actually working on a Catwoman comic book with batboy99, but this is about the best Catwoman, Michelle Pfeiffer, and we also have Holly in it...

im juz gonna quote sumthin i wrote on the riddler from another thread i posted in....

"idk, i always thought it'd be cool 2 have the riddler start out as a cop/detective. and to have it set up so he can never solve any case he investigates cause batman always beats him 2 it. than he looses his job er sumthin like that (i havent figured out the details yet) and he blames batman 4 it. so he tries to get revenge on batman by commiting complex crimes and teasing batman w/ clues he doesnt think he can put 2gether. or maybe partner up w/ sum other badguy than after they plan there crime and its over with he betrays his partner and starts dropping clues to how to prove his ex partner in crime's guilty.

idk, juz sumthin along the lines of him starting out as a detective who competes w/ batman. (even if batman dont know it) wut do ya think?"

juz remember where u heard that idea 1st. ( don't want this to end up like the time when i suggested craven hunting the lizard 4 a spiderman sequel (an idea i came up w/ on the marvel boards last year when they 1st anounced venom and the other villens for sm3) and than not get credit 4 my idea. not that im that ego...... well i might b:whatever:

David Goyer already said that Catwoman and the Penguin would not be featured in future Batman movies. They want to see characters that have not been portrayed in movies yet. Honestly I think the Penguin as a gentleman crime lord would be pretty damn cool, but Goyer has spoken. Going with that, you can throw out Mr. Freeze, Riddler, and Posion Ivy as well.

With that in mind, the next story I would want to see from Batman would be a serial killer type, murder mystery detective story. After all, Batman is supposed to be the world's greatest detective, so lets see some detective work, you know? The Long Halloween and Dark Victory used this type of story line. Clayface would be a good villain to use for that type of story, since the original Clayface (before he got suped-up) was just a regular guy killing people.

The only problem is that the Nolan universe is going along a theme of cleaning up crime and making Gotham safer and putting the criminals in fear. This is the concept of a "vigilante" and not so much a detective. It would be tough to portray that type of theme in the context of a mystery, so my idea is probably out. But I would love to see it.

I've heard this before, but folks, how? How do you bring Clayface into the Nolanverse? I can't see it happening.

ya, if clayface was in the movies i think itd juz end up bein the acter clayface w/o powers from the 40's. wuts the point?
