The Dark Knight Rises Ideas For Incorporating Characters Into the Nolanverse

Sometimes you guys are reaching too much for reasons and motivations behind these characters quirks to the point it'd be campy and distracting in the film.

Yeah that was just off the top of my head, but I have been trying to make clayface fit.

The joker had no motivation, but Two-face did. He was trying to avenge rachel.

Bane hardened ex con, now turned merc. gets hired by the falcone family to kill Batman, riddler, and all of his men. He uses a hybrid steroid.

I agree with everything up to here.

In the process his bones begin to get bigger, his muscles, and everything else. The process takes a while (days, weeks, months idk), but is worth it (the side effects are not known).

That just gets to unreal to fit in Nolan's universe.

Venom's effects should be toned down as close to real steroids as possible IMO.

Having drugs that can make him into a mini-Hulk is not going to work.

He has a handy injector hooked up to his body that injects drugs that make him feel no pain while improving his ability to fight. He wears clothes that make him look smaller than he is and rarely goes out in public.

This fits the comics. It doesn't in live action in a realistic world.

Bane doesn't need to carry around Venom with him. This would be a huge weakness in a fight. Batman would just tear it off. Fight over.

He can just inject himself with it when he's safe.

He wears clothes that make him look smaller than he is and rarely goes out in public.

I like this.

He could be a coke addict, too. From what I've heard/read, cocaine (might be another drug) when done enough can almost stop pain sensors from activating. Many might remember the old robbery where two guys were so drugged out of their minds that they took shot after shot from cops and never felt a thing. One died in the gunfight and the other wound up taking his own life.

True.

What do you think?

as long as bane is played by a real actor (preferably javier bardem) and not some ******* wrestler, i'll be happy

I know. hate ****ing wrestlers.

Killer Croc- A man with a skin disorder that makes his skin pale and clammy, he is 7'1" ft tall, he has a tattoo's to further alter his appearance, he had his upper and lower jaw reconstructed to point outwards somewhat and his cheek bones slimmed down, he silver caps (that go to a point) replacing all of his back teeth and he sharpens all the rest, he was a former circus performer, and he prefers to go to close quarters using a bowie knife.

I'm just suggesting.

Croc doesn't need to be a former circus performer. Just a rebel to society's standards.

sorry if i post only every so often, i think they could put him and something like a cross between the exo skeloton and a containment souit that would *u*k ppl up!:cwink: but yeah somrthings would just look stupid. and dispite my seemingly bad grammer i am ammerican, or as closed to it without being full blooded indian

I have been thinking long and hard (that is a first) and I have come to realize many things that must be taken into aspect for this next movie. I no longer stand by my choice of Mr. Freeze. Instead, I feel more comfortable with the lesser known villain . . . Firefly.

Anyways, I told some here that I would get back to them on my thoughts for the Riddler and the other villains i think should be in the movie. And here my ideas are . . .

VILLAINS

THE RIDDLER-
Edward Nashton is a rouge psychopathic CIA agent humiliated by the Batman. He becomes a network hacker who tears down Gotham City economically. He is intent on locating and prompting the Batman to return. He does so by threatening what Batman cares about most: Gotham City.

He detonates various areas of Gotham and tears down the city from the inside. The Riddler desires to humiliate Batman by revealing his secret identity. He becomes obsessive to the point where he constantly searches for the Batman.

He presents riddle upon each system he has previously hacked. Each riddle is a complex system of numerical equations intended to be solved. Each riddle is a set of coordinates of where the Riddler will hack next. He challenges all to solve the riddles that he imposes.

The Riddler uses his traditional cane and other various weapons. He has hired henchmen and assassins working under him.

He becomes in leagues with the mob. The Riddler presents stolen information to various mobsters. Information containing facts about the city and various systems, such as weak points in Gotham’s structure. With such vital information the mafia can ‘retake’ Gotham City while the police are occupied.

CATWOMAN-
Catwoman is an acrobatic jewelry heist expert. She is shown to steal from mobsters and the mafia. She has personal vendetta against the mafia for killing her best friend. This is not shown, but stated. Her main desire and want is to take down the entire mob as a personal vendetta against it. She becomes Gotham’s new vigilante.

Catwoman uses an arsenal of weapons including a bullwhip, retractable ‘claws’, fiber armor, GPS locator, high intensive ear pieces, night vision binoculars, and others.

Selina Kyle, Catwoman’s alias, is a millionaire (price paid in stolen jewels) bachelorette. She befriends Bruce Wayne during a party. Neither is aware of the other’s secret vigilante status.

After Batman’s return, Catwoman and he become somewhat romantically involved, although their relationship becomes a love/hate relationship. The two watch out for each other and desire to stop the arise of criminality and cease the threat of the Riddler.

THE PENGUIN-
Oswald Cobblepot, nicknamed the Penguin because of his looks, is an English arms dealer who provides resources and weapons to the mafia. He soon becomes a powerful mobster and secretly takes over Gotham’s criminality rise and underworld operations.

However, in the public eye, he also arises in politics and becomes the hero of Gotham City, promising that crime will go down, even without the Batman. Because of his re-assuring acts, Dent’s image is destroyed.

The Penguin plots the rise of the rise of criminality to again dominate Gotham City, while under the identity of a trusted politician. The Riddler helps him with vital operations, such as key information in the structure of Gotham. However, he does fear the threats to bring down all of Gotham.

He uses various weapons, mainly guns and has hired henchmen and the entire mafia in his pocket.

FIREFLY-
James Lynns (Yes, I changed the first name because I despise the name Garfield) is a pyromaniac, who, after a terrible fire accident, dons an insulating suit. He uses his knowledge of explosives and fire to set various areas ablaze.

He is hired by the Riddler to burn Gotham to burn the major corporations in Gotham including Wayne Enterprises. This way, the major systems, not capable of being hacked into, are no longer a threat. He is also hired to find the Batman (if possible) and assassinate him.

He uses a high tech arsenal of weapons. He uses an insulation suit equipped with two flamethrowers and a compartment of gasoline. He sets anything he desires ablaze and watches it burn.

-Notes-
I know I have been often speaking of Batman ‘returning’ often within the paragraphs above. This is because Bruce Wayne decides not to become Batman early on in the film. However, about forty five minutes into the film, he realizes that without him and even with Catwoman, Gotham City is falling apart.
What makes him realize this are:
1. The Riddler’s threats to structurally tear down Gotham.
2. The rouge vigilante Catwoman.
3. The arising mob and mafia, regaining control of all of Gotham City.
4. The Firefly’s attacks and constantly burning major areas of Gotham.
5. Alfred pushing him to make him realize that no matter what, hated or not, Batman is needed.

What if Riddler knew who Batman was... And knew the Truth about Dent? How he knows need never be explained... He is an enigma after all...

But being the "Better Class of Criminal" that the Joker has encouraged, he's not doing what he does for the money...

It could start off with him sending in letters to the Gotham Times with clues about the truth, and he gets more and more frustrated that he's being ignored... So to draw attention to himself, he starts sending his riddles to Bullock, who has been assigned to the taskforce to bring batman in...

But to be taken seriously, and to get his riddles noticed, he starts committing crimes which are attached to his riddles, forcing GPD, Batman and the media to try and figure them out...

Furthermore, he starts sending out riddles to the public informing them of where the missing mob money is... Fueled by his own ego... Which draws the attention of the mob in catching riddler to get their money back. So Batman will be fighting the mob, riddler and bullock for the film... And ultimately and ironically has protect and save riddler from the mob.

This would all lead to a big finale in which he draws in the whole city on a riddle. Like on some crazy treasure hunt for the missing mob money... Like in that episode f the simpsons when sam neil played the old aged diamond burgular... But it would be a trap for the citizens of Gotham and batman would have to save them, and in doing so, the riddler finally reveals the truth about harvey... But not about batman, because in the finale he saves riddler from the mob, and riddler respects him for solving his puzzles.

Throughout all this... Catwoman could be a journalist working for the Gotham Times, a cross between vicky vale and selena kyle... In order to understand what drives a person to do what batman does, she dons a false persona and stalks the night, perhaps committing petty crimes or acting in a "robin hood" capacity... Following the riddler's clues every bit as well as batman, and that's how they meet, at one of the riddler's crime scenes... Selena on the other hand could be forced by her boss to write a silly bio piece on Bruce Wayne, and she hates him to start... But the relationship blossoms....

I think the "rise of the freaks" storyline is encapsulated by the onset of catwoman and to a greater extent the riddler, who do what they do not for money, as joker said... It's not about the money, it's about sending a message.

The storyline with selena kyle writing a piece on bruce wayne and finding out that he isn't some poncy playboy and them falling in love could also be a strong and genuine romantic lead for any female actress.

And I think a finale in which Batman has to save the citizens of gotham from their own greed would be a very fitting end to the trilogy, because with that situation, they would realise how much they would need batman to be their silent protector... The hero they deserve... Their dark knight.

I'd really like to see Scarecrow actually being the main villain for once...have the Mad Hatter help him, and you would have something very similar to The Long Halloween, or Haunted Knight. I can't really explain my ideas for a storyline right now...as I just woke up. lol

I was thinking that Riddler in terms of appearance would wear a green pen-striped blazer suit with a black vest, tie and leather gloves. I'm sure most have already imagined this. But instead of his domino mask, an elegant black (or mix-colored) Venetian Eye Mask with designs that resemble question marks (possibly have different masks for different scenes), and his tie would have crystal diamonds in the form of a question mark. His cane would look normal but still resemble a question mark and have a concealed blade at the end of it. I'm not sure about the bowler hat, would it really fit?

In terms of his character he would be a kind of Zodiac killer who leaves clues through cryptic messages from previous crime scenes, this in turn would lead his new victims into traps, he would somehow know what really happened to Dent, and use that to force Batman out of hiding.

I wouldn't mind seeing them go with a lesser villain like the ventriloquist or black mask and give the story even more of a horror feel than TDK already had.
A creepy little doll (no gangster reference and no speech impedement) and his even creepier owner and a guy with a black mask (fused to his face or not). With part of the film set in arkham, after the epic Batman, bring on the claustrophobic, horrific one:woot:.
Anyway, since I don't think they'll be able to top TDK if they go for more of the same thing, maybe they should try a different approach.

yea gwynplaine that sounds pretty cool, i would love to see a proppa horror style batman film, completely unadulterated. it could also expand on Batmans detective skills aswell

I really like this idea, along with one or two others. If a third installment is made I'd like to see a few more of the rogues pop-up. 'Too many villains' is thrown at Batman & Robin and Spiderman 3 but for me the real weaknesses there are the stories. With the crime drama feel of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight the key would be to continue to make every scene count towards the story, and make sure any minor villains/rogues are essential to the story - and that it fits their character, obviously.

Why do so many people want this angle for The Riddler? It's been done already in several films - Se7en, Saw and The Zodiac itself - and The Riddler himself just is not that character. There are plenty of cold blooded killers in Batman's rogues gallery, and others in the DC universe that could fit the mold for a serial killer type, but not The Riddler.

Yeah, I dont think the serial killer bit would work for Riddler. If anything he tries to rely on his skills to trick people, and when all else fails pulls out a gun and blows their head off. He's never been one to get his hands messy.

The problem with bringing any villians into a third picture is that they allpale in comparison to The Joker and Two Face.Add to that the brilliant performances by Heath and Aaron and it's pretty much a done deal.A Riddeler, Penguin, Mad hatter etc would all pale in comparison no matter who you got to play them. You've kind of plateaued with Joker and Two Face.

What could be interesting is to focus on a Batman /Catwoman struggle/romance (a la Batman Returns) but very differently. That would be worth exploring, and have the film just be about Batman's rite of passage from the fall of DK.

So why ever make another Batman movie? Here's an idea...present a version of Batman that beats the pants off the one in THE DARK KNIGHT, and make Batman the most interesting character again. I fail to see how The Penguin/Riddler/Catwoman couldn't somehow be as interesting as The Joker/Two-Face.
