The Dark Knight Rises Ideas For Incorporating Characters Into the Nolanverse

"Easily" is sort of relative in that situation.

What Batman was doing in fighting Ra's was, by that point, pretty much self defense, wasn't it? There was no "easy way" to save Ra's by any reasonable standard, which I would imagine is what courts would use. I just wish Batman had given Ra's the chance and made the offer, even knowing how difficult it would have been to save him. That would have been amazing. You could have even kept the "I won't kill you...but I don't have to save you", and followed it with something else between them.

Ra's could've answered with, "I don't want you to save me" or something.

Actually, if you look at Ras face, after Batman delivers that line, it's a look of fear. Like he DOESN'T want to die.

I would have to disagree with you on that one. I'd say Ra's has a look of acceptance on his face, a quiet calm. One could look at it as Ra's accepting his fate, or knowing that he will return after a trip to a Lazarus Pitt.

I don't look at Ras' death as murder by the hand of Batman either. Were he to offer, Ras would not have accepted Batman's attempt to save him, or would most definately have tried to kill him in the escape. I think at this point Bruce knew that because of Ras' actions Ra's had actually killed himself. Batman does not kill, but that doesn't mean that an opponent cannot die in a fight. Bruce had to save himself, and knowing he couldn't possibly save Ra's he jumped ahead of the guy to essentially tell him that to his face. Almost like saving himself some time later on.

This booze just goes right through me! *runs to the washroom*

Watch the scene again.

Batman says "I don't have to kill you"

Then tosses something out the window.

"But I don't have to save you."

Freeze. There's a shot of Ras while he's still pinned down, with a 'sh--!' look on his face.

Batman flies out. Ras I think, by this point, accepts his fate, like you said. The last shot seems to be him saying 'well im f---ed. Sigh.'

But i'm pretty sure his initial reaction was that of 'oh sh--!' As though he did NOT want to die..

I never read it that way.

And even if his initial reaction was that of surprise, he still get's up and then closes his eyes in acceptance. In fact, they purposely changed that part of the script. Originally, they had Ras screaming as he went out, but they changed it on purpose to show him calmly accepting his fate.

First of all, Batman was holding two batarangs with which he was threatening Ras. He threw them to break the window and create a current of air which he used to push himself out of the train.
And i agree with Infinity, i think that in the end, Ras accepted his fate like the ninja monk that he was. Thank god they didnt go with the screaming like a girl ending.
The whole 'i wont kill you, but don't have to save you' thing was simply a reference to earlier in the film. Batman saved Ras, but Ras came back and tried to kill him and destroy Gotham, Batman realized this and decided 'I don't have to save you this time. You got yourself into this mess, you get yourself out. Later.'
That is very un-Batman. Batman has gone out of his way to save many of his villains, including the joker. In fact there was a story were the joker was about to be given the lethal ejection because he was falsely accused for someone else's crime and somehow those crimes proved that he was not mentally ill and therefore deserved to die. Batman smelled something wrong and eventually exonerated him, even though Gordon believed that he deserved it anyway.

Its not about the courts. Its that Nolan put Batman in a situation where Ras would have been difficult to save and thus they went with the cool exit of "imma gonna open up ma cape and fly triumphantly out of the train while you turn to ketchup". Batman's awesome exit was the most important thing in their minds and it seems like they didnt think the whole thing through from the ethical angle. Batman should have at least offered to help. Perhaps they could have grappled out of there, or:
Ra's could've answered with, "I don't want you to save me" or something.

Two Face didn't bother me as much as Ras, because I don't think Batman was intentionally trying to kill Harvey, as it was shown, obviously it's was a fall that it was possible to survive from, but it's implied that Harvey landed in an awkward way (on his neck) and it killed him.

I've always seen Harvey's death as more of an accident. Batman threw himself at Harvey and he couldn't stop himself before skidded over the edge of the platform. Perhaps Batman tried to grab hold of him but he slipped through his fingers.

Ras though...that's a tough one. It's something I've more or less been on the fence about for a while. I'll watch it some times and it won't bother me, and then sometimes it will. Regardless, Batman did kill him. You can be tried in court for standing by and watching someone die if it was easily within your power to save them.

I feel the same way. I wish Ra's had told Batman that he didn't need/want his help, like I said in an earlier post. That would've satisfied me.

I dont think Harvey is dead and I believe some deluded member of The League of Shadows will believe he is Ra's reincarnated

No man, Harvey's dead. Do you think the police just left the body there? They would have most definitely checked to make sure he was deceased. And even Batman brushed over Dent's lifeless face during the final scene with Gordon.

Clearly, Harvey Dent is dead and buried.

I agree. It only would have taken one line. Still, it doesn't bother me too much, but it's just one of those things.

Ahh wish I had my BB dvd with me right now

An idea for bane.
Have the starting scene shows a tall some what muscular man in a green military outfit in a court room(it does not show his face. The judge begins talking in spanish(with subtitles), he says: that the jury finds you guilty on 3 counts of murder(does a quick shot back to the man in green killing them). The judge sentences him to life in prison, without the possibility of parol (it still does not show his face).

The next scene it shows the man sitting in a dark cell reading a book, with rats around him(his face cannot be clearly seen, you can see his nose mouth and beard). The door opens and the judge walks in(with two armed guards), along with the warden, they then introduce a high ranking general(but he already knows him and says his name before the gaurds have time to speak) in the military. He says that he has a one time offer to be set free from the prison. The man on the ground smiles.

It then shows him in an observation room, there are doctors talking to him. They tell him he will be taking a non addictive super formula, comprised of proteins and adrenaline, and all sorts of other things. They say the deal is he will get a lifetime supply of the drug, and freedom after there various experiments are done. They hook him up to an Iv, and inject him with a bunch of needles(that say janus industries on them). It shows him working out and building muscle, and fighting multiple people at once(inmates), and going through withdrawal, he is yelling and then crying and seizing. They then say they are going to give him an artificial heart, It shows them take it out of a wayne industries box. It shows him working out, and then they say they are putting an implant in the back of his neck and one directly like to his heart. After the surgery is done they give him a makeshift gauze wrap up. By this point he is highly addicted.

The general then walks in, he tells him today is the day he is a free man. The convict asks for more of the drug.He tells him there is no more, you can only get it in america, the general smiles and tells him he will soon be dead, he needs to have the drug at least every 24 hours. He kills the general and escapes, to the edge of the island(prison), it shows his back with a shot of the entire ocean.

Roman sionis/black mask- he is the man bane is looking for, he is a corrupt buisness man who is trying to rule the world, he makes a living selling guns, armor, performance enhancing drugs, and other illegal activities. He recently made a deal with the sant priscan government, giving them a sample of his latest drug(street named venom). He is secretly the king of war and crime, nicknamed black mask, for his skull reminiscent mask. He runs the italian mafia, and worldwide organized crime syndicate in gotham.

Batman has been searching for black mask for months, there are a few scenes in which batman find him, and one they get into a brawl but black mask gets away.

Bane has to go to america, and he searches for black mask, he has become hard from prison will do what he needs to do. After he takes down black mask(and seemingly breaks his back). He then welds the mask to black masks head.

Bane desiring a ruthless takeover of everything begins wearing a black (metal) mask(very similar to black masks), he tells the men they work for him, He offers them twice the splendor as before.

Batman is now searching for this new black mask, nicknamed bane because he is so ruthless, and insane. The mob has a saying, you can have a delicous treat, but it might kill you(as in you can have twice the money, but bane may do something crazy. Bane soon gets to the newly appointed CEO of Janus Ind.(after romans disappearance), he Begins wearing a ballistic vest, and heavily using venom. He has a street distributor known as poison ivy, her number on product is bane, people are dying left and right in the city, He plans for worldwide distribution of the drug soon(It allows users to do things they never thought possible).

His ultimate plan, is to destroy gotham, and then the economy of the U.S. and become the wealthiest man in the world in the process. He begins meeting with many corrupt burocrats, and leaders of the world(the underworld as well, drug traffickers, and so on). He is beginning to have a strong seat of power.

During a mission he sees over personally, batman shows up, during the fight a grenade explodes next to banes face. It creates a mask very similar to the one we know today.

With a meeting of many world leaders happening in gotham(including the president), bane sees an opportunity, he plants bomb all over the city. Batman saves the president and the leaders, but many bombs explode around the city, they set off a minor earthquake, breaking the bridges, and destroying a few buildings, including arkham, all the inmates are released.
Batman is around the city, he beats scarecrow, and some other misc villains. And then he fights bane, who tries to break his back, in the end bane is hooked up to an IV of venom, being fed non stop. Batman defeats him, but with all the arkham inmates on the loose it seems if batmans job shall never end.
Theyre is a small scene with a man in a purple suit walking down the street, with many inmates in orange next to him.
Bruce is talking with alfred, he is distraught about the bombs, and he feels as if he can no longer continue, but he then he says, I dont want to continue being batman, I have to.
The scene ends with Alfred mentioning that he can't be in two places at once(hinting at robin).

The movie ends with Gordan holding a press release, in it he claims that gotham is now no mans land, they're are still 100's of inmates loose, but they will rebuild. He says something else that has meaning, but i really dont know what to say.

Ras though...that's a tough one. It's something I've more or less been on the fence about for a while. I'll watch it some times and it won't bother me, and then sometimes it will. Regardless, Batman did kill him. You can be tried in court for standing by and watching someone die if it was easily within your power to save them.

That's not entirely correct. You can only be held criminally liable if there was a legal duty to act via a special relationship, you had the means to act, and you failed to do so. A special relationship would be things like parent/child, spouse/spouse, etc.

But if someone needs help and subsequently dies b/c they don't get it and you, without any special relationship to the victim ie. a stranger, stood around watching refusing to help you can't be held criminally liable. There was a famous case of a woman in New York who was screaming for help b/c she was being stabbed and no one refused to help her, she later died and the bystanders were never charged b/c they didn't do anything illegal.

Whether Batman and Ra's had a special relationship is an interesting legal issue notwithstanding what they were doing all those years up in the mountains together with no female companionship.

Clayface should be a shapeshifter, but purely in a symbolic sense.

Basil Karlo is a man of many talents and many means. He is a serial killer who constantly changes his appearance,by utilising different disguises. Ranging from anything to Masks to makeup. Robes to suits, etc.

So the police arent quite sure if its several people or just the one man. He should also briefly dress as the Joker, before moving on with more disguises.

i dont like the joker idea, personally, but yeah thats how i want to see clayface, even serving as the "twoface" role
maybe even have him kill his plastic surgeon, after a surgery

I was thinking what if two face was the villain in the next movie. Don't have him die, simply have him go into a two week coma.

As a kid Harvey's mother died in child birth. It was his fathers true love, he loved her more than anything. His father loved harvey, but he had multi personality disorder(only changed persona's when he drinks).

When his father entered severe depression he began drinking heavily, when this happened he began beating harvey(every time he would flip a coin, heads harvey gets beat). Almost like a coping mechanism harvey's imaginary friend apollo, began taking over. He would act out violence at school and take the beating, harvey never had any recollection of the beatings or the violent acts he committed. When harvey was 12 he was separated from his father, and put in with a foster family. They put him in therapy, and boom apollo somewhat vanished. Although sometimes harvey would do the foul acts apollo would do.

Now 25 years later, in a time harvey desperately needs a friend, apollo is back, but now he has taken up a new name, Two Face. Now in the movie we see a full fledged two face.

It would be cool to start off the movie with gordan's speech about harvey(from TDK, the speech with the big picture of harvey in the background), and him saying harvey dent is currently recovering in (some hospital), there is no way of telling if he will make it through, but we are all praying for him.

A business man with a bright idea has taken power in the mob using a black skull mask. He doesn't have a name, because people do not fear names, they fear faces, so people simply call him black mask.

OPTION
You could have Bane, but IDK, if it would be appropriate.
I personally am for a recast of the joker, someone who could nail the role, although it would not be a full on role, there could a be few scenes with the joker.
I am also for having scarecrow in the movie, possibly he gets paid by black mask(who is later discovered as roman sionis, a wealthy industrialist and CEO of janus industries).

The movie would focus a lot on duality, how you can be both evil and good.

A pinnacle scene could involve bruce telling harvey:
A great person once told me, Its not who you are underneath, it is what you do that defines you.
Then bruce unmasks to harvey.
Harvey has a gun in his hand, a coin in the other, and lots of bombs rigged to blow with the push of a button(they're rigged to blow half the city).
Harvey flips his coin, it lands scarred side(he should blow the city), he smiles, and you can see he is nearly crying,
and then he lifts the gun next to his head, batman yells(but is injured and cannot get to him in time).
harvey pulls the trigger, to kill two face(killing himself in the process).

What do you think?

Not bad but I still doubt Nolan wants Bane for the next movie.

Yeah, although I think Nolan is still considering two face, I have no idea about bane, but I do enjoy righting ideas. Although they are partially based on other stories, harveys dad beat him, he flipped a coin when he did but, Harvey alwasy got beat, if two face when on a killing spree there one true hope would lie with batman, and I think black mask is pretty much gold.

Wrote this part on my phone.

Yeah I get bored easily and I boughT an iPhone a few months ago. So I just wrote on notepad and copy pasted it. I got a lot of free time.

Black mask fits perfectly, who will step up to the mob, joker, no, falcone, no, maroni, no. Black mask, perfect, escelation. I personally think joker needs to come back, he has to kill gordans wife and son, and torture gordan. To show evil is still a choice.

HOW does this read to you all??

Bruce will struggle hard with the consequences of being Batman and will vow to give up, he must first replace Harvey Dent himself or find someone that can do it and support them both as Wayne and as Batman. Bruce begins to shift more of his focus on cleaning up Gotham from a humanitarian angle using Wayne Enterprises and his wealth to fight the good fight in the public.(Similar to his father Thomas Wayne) Things take a turn for the worse when Wayne Enterprises is accused of violating labor laws and economic scandal. Bruce will have the fight of his life as he is challenged as both Batman and Bruce Wayne by Roman Sionis a.k.a. Black Mask and his False Face Society a ruthless gang of disfigured members who have all been tortured and brainwashed and control the illegal crime activity in Gotham City. As well as the fact the Batman is now public enemy number one. Reese, The employee from TDK who found blueprints for Tumbler (BATMOBILE) is found murdered, and Batman is framed, thought to be trying to protect his identity. This leads to an even greater pressure from the city for Gordon to capture Batman and Gordon himself now doesn’t know who to trust, even Batman himself.

A new and mysterious female assistant D.A. emerges Talia Head and sparks the interest of Bruce Wayne and she is secretly Talia al Ghul (Despite not appearing in Batman Begins, where Ra's al Ghul is the main villain, she is mentioned in the novelization when Ra's writes to his daughter in Switzerland and al Ghul's character biography in the DVD special features.) She is a complex character, not quite heroine nor villainess but more of an anti-hero. Talia has brought a team of the remaining League of Shadows Warriors to Gotham City to hunt down the Batman and force him to join them or pay for her father’s death. The League is fully aware that the city has been under siege from the Black Mask and his False Face Society for years.

The Black Mask is an older man, very rich, and a rogue member of the league of shadows. After leaving the League he formed the False Face Society whose first member was the Joker. Black Mask's most important weapons are fear and intimidation. He is known for his brutal and sadistic torture techniques, especially on the face. He sees the Joker’s purpose was served as he drove the Batman from hero to vigilante in the general public eye, and needs to dispose of the Joker before his identity is revealed. He recants on his offer to the Joker and plans his assassination while in Arkham. The Black Mask is secretly also a wealthy business man and has the pull to push around Bruce Wayne and also fabricate documents and information. His Intel is unparalleled, he nearly completes a hostile takeover of Wayne Enterprises, and he is a master criminal strategist with vast amount of resources. He was the crime lord of Gotham city for many years as an undercover businessman and was the original target of Ras al Ghul and the League of Shadows. The Scarecrow is forced to give up his secret on how to weaponize the Blue Flowers to the False Face Society and Black Mask also uses his connections to gather information on his enemies, and then hits them at their weak points, such as family and friends. (ties to Thomas Wayne, and his death) The Black Mask infiltrates Wayne Enterprises and in an attempt to take over the building and kill Lucious Fox, who he sees as the brains of the executive board. Black Mask sets up and commits a series of murders designed to frame Batman. This plan is complicated by the escape of Joker. Joker finds and seeks revenge on the Black Mask exposing his true identity and scarring him in the process. The False Face Society and the League of Shadows Hunters led by Talia go to war in the streets of Gotham.

Gordon discovers he must find a way to get info out of the Joker, while in Arkham he is receiving treatment from a new doctor Dr. Harleen Quinzel who turns out to be an operative of the Black Mask. The Black Mask is determined to kill the Joker to conceal his identity but the operative does a double cross, and frees the Joker. He then kidnaps Commissioner Gordon and taunts him with enlarged photographs of his wounded (family member), in an attempt to prove that any normal man can go insane after having "one really bad day." The Joker ridicules him as an example of "the average man," a naïve weakling doomed to insanity. Again giving an explanation of the scars on his face to Gordon with a knife pressed to the inside of the Commissioner’s mouth "something like that happened to me you know...I'm not quite sure what it was. Sometimes I remember it one way, sometimes another. If I'm going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice!" The Joker knowing the true identity of Black Mask and his intent on taking over Wayne Enterprises destroys the Wayne tower to announce to Gotham that he is again free and that terror has returned to Gotham.

Climax would be Joker now destroying what’s left of the mob and taking over the reins of The False Face Society. He holds the city for ransom by revealing he has a plan to detonate another bomb similar to what destroys Wayne enterprises.

Batman has to take down False Face Society and stop the Joker while struggling with the conflict of continuing his life as both Batman and Bruce Wayne or accepting the offer from Talia who is determined to have Bruce lead The League of Shadows. Talia ends up stepping in front of bullet meant for Batman as her heart has changed after she has witnessed all the destruction caused by her own fathers hand and that of their followers.

By the end of the movie the citizens of Gotham realize that Batman is the only one who can level the playing field against the powers of the criminally insane and the corrupt powers that be in Gotham City.
