I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

I'm disappointed you didn't include the "Revenge!" caption atter he had already walked out of frame.

No Man’s Land reference in episode 2 of The Penguin. Combined with the set photos I wish I didn’t see awhile back , makes me wonder if they’re really going into that direction for Part II.

This entire scene is intense as hell. Wow….if this is how The Batman series is moving forward, then….damn.

I can't wait to see Bruce eventually run into Oz again in the later Parts and realize he's been woefully underestimating the Penguin and that he's a far more dangerous opponent than the Batman could have ever anticipated.

I haven't seen the episode yet because the release time here is in the middle of the night from Sunday to Monday, at 3 a.m., so it'll be for tonight with a good pizza.
But just to say, damn, that Penguin smoking that cigar is visually a mean motherf***er! I love it.

I said this in another post, but aside from Burton and De Vito's monstrous version, I've never been super hooked on the Penguin as a villain.
At least, I always saw him more as a background character, the kind of guy you go and interrogate in his club (exactly what The Batman did)...
But with this new version, I'm starting to see in the character that potential for being a major and memorable threat all along the saga...
He's not the one to poison or blow up Gotham, but he's got the viciousness and strategy to stay put and I can see him becoming that itch Batman can't never fully scratch.

I can honestly say that I never liked Penguin either. It wasn’t until the Arkham games that I started to get a feel for where I wanted to his character to go. I never ever thought that I would be saying this, but Colin’s Penguin is genuinely a terrifying villain. Borderline demonic. This scene is a peek behind the curtain at what he really is underneath it all. What Maroni said about him at Blackgate was true in every word.

For everyone who is saying that they’ve never liked the Penguin before the show came out…you should read Penguin: Pain and Prejudice. It will make you have tons of respect for the character.

Underrated comic, I was very happy when I found out that the showrunner read it and took inspiration from it for the series (Although it was already noticeable in the first episode)

Give it to Roger Deakins for one last time because Empire of Light can NOT be his last job as a cinematographer.

If Greig Fraser is unavailable then give me Jarin Blaschke.

Yeah, I think the best picks to step in for Fraser here if that becomes necessary would either be Blaschke or Galo Orivales.

Though admittedly, Blaschke's work on the upcoming Nosferatu remake seems like the best fit for where Reeves is going with The Batman, Part 2...

I initially thought Deakins would be a probable pick, but after thinking on it some more, I genuinely don't think it'd happen. Matt Reeves really wants the core look and visual style of the Batman Epic Crime Saga to be through using anamorphic lenses... and unfortunately Deakins is staunchly not a fan of anamorphic lenses and shoots rather strictly with aspherical/spherical lenses instead.

The way he looked and moved smoking the cigar in this scene really reminded me of the Arkham games’ Penguin.

Right, but there’s one major difference for me. As much as I enjoy Arkham Penguin, he came off as bad guy that ran his mouth and tried to act tough.

This scene actually convinced me that he really is evil. Then, thinking back on what early viewers said, he gets even darker than this.

This makes me wish that Riddler had a bit more screen time. Like the attack on Pete Savage at the gym would have been amazing.

I'm just glad the narrative surrounding the penguin is a positive one and it should build going into the sequel.

Gunn should be happy too because this only brings positive attention to DC and the general audience won't even know this isn't connected.

It sounds like the forecasts for the jokers box office aren't great. Something tells me we may get more about the batverse after the opening this weekend to change the narrative.

No lie, I am a bit bummed that Black Mask isn’t in this show. Like, he could have been portrayed as the boogeyman of the mob world.
