The Dark Knight In Heath We Trust: A Ledgerbration: The TDK Joker Appreciation Thread - Part 1

Darn Batman for interrupting him!!!!

Man, if they had given him an origin, it would have been ruined. The whole point is him being a force of nature and joker is a notoriously unreliable narrator.

How the years the fly by. While I did not participate in the scavenger hunts and such, I did follow the viral marketing closely. I'll never forget the Joker reveal, the dollar bills at SDCC 2007, the phone number in the sky, the hostage call, the melting pumpkin, etc. What a time to be alive. It'd be great if we got something similar for Matt Reeves The Batman.

The Virals indeed were a magical time. There's a few youtube videos that are still up that document the campaign, the bowling ball and even the "dork knight' trailer reveal. It's been ages since i posted here, but this was THE place to be to get all the updates and get in on the excitement of the most anticipated movie in a long time.....and it did not disappoint.

Here's a a very good video essay on the Joker.

They briefly brought up a theory that the Joker in this universe was soldier which actually makes a lot of sense if you observe how the Joker operate. But I'm still glad that his backstory remained a mystery and that TDK focused on how he went from a standard criminal in Gotham into being Batman's arch nemesis.

...bought the 6” Mafex Joker #005 last week. Also, have a 6” Mafex Bank Tobber Joker #015 coming soon.

Stripped the white paint off of the face, with nail polish remover. Used a .005 black pen on his raccoon eyes and used a .10 red pen on his lips. Then applied a white art colored pencil onto his face... hit with a matte sealer and then reapplied the white colored pencil again.

The sculpts are really good, just hindered by the paint application (especially on his lip/mouth scars).

Happy to finally have an upgrade to the Movie Masters (that isn't an overpriced Hot Toy).

So damn cool. I'd love to own all of these. I'd love to frame them somehow lol.

Speaking of, anybody still get chills at the scene where the judge gets blown up and the cards are raining down? Such gorgeous cinematography in that scene too.

The Batman franchise has had perhaps the 2 greatest marketing campaigns in movie history. There was Bat-mania in 1989, where the glorious Bat logo was plastered everywhere. I mean everywhere! And then we had the TDK viral marketing scavenger hunts, plus the incredible IMAX footage in front of I Am Legend.

Somehow Warner Brothers was able to get lightning to strike twice in the same franchise. Normally the type of marketing campaign that happened for B89 is a once in a lifetime deal for any movie studio. They found a way to do it again with TDK in a more sneaky manner. Both campaigns got the fanbase super fired up before the movies were released.
