Yeah this is weird, especially since they seem to be bringing back everyone else not named Will Smith (including Brent Spiner, who DIED in the first one). Mae's still acting, she does live-action acting as well as voice acting, and she's freaking Katara from ATLA. So this recast makes little sense to me, and by the sounds of it, she wasn't even CONSIDERED for the role.

God I hope that it's not a case of some Hollywood guy thinking that she's not "conventionally attractive" enough, because that'd just be sad and pathetic.

It would have made sense if Mae wasn't acting anymore, but she's still acting. That casting made zero sense.

I understand why they recast Vivica's son.

Mae Whitman played her bit-part in ID4 almost 20 years ago. Recasting a role after that much time has passed isn't exactly unheard of regardless of the actor or actresses age. For all we know Mae didn't want to be involved in this film. I'm certainly not going to boycott the film because of this. Frankly I just don't care about Mae's career prospects. If her agent wasn't able to campaign her for the role or she didn't care enough to fight for it that's on them.

Beside Maika is pretty and a good actress so it's a win in my book.

It's Hollywood. They wouldn't cast Mae Whitman as Liam Hemsworth's leading lady unless it's a "She's All That" type of movie. It's sad but true.

Yeah, I like Mae Whitman but were not talking about an A-lister here (a la a Jen Lawrence or an Emma Stone) who could write their own ticket, were talking about a working actress, who would kill to play the female lead in a huge summer blockbuster. Aside from the payday, it would have tremendously helped her career.

Wrong.

No I didn't say it wasn't not a successful movie. Most likely this role is just the typical 'girlfriend role'. With Makia, she just started but even then, this is not a Katniss type role. Not that I know of. It'll befit the guy who's playing Will Smith's son though.

For Mae, she doesn't really need it. I'd say she should go down the Amy Schumer route, and do her own thing.
