Interstellar - Part 3

That was a damn good teaser imo. The music and voice over by MM really did it for me.

I liked the teaser.

Also, how instead of simply saying the year or the month and year, it just said, "One year from now."

The trailer was a little to subtle for me. What the movie about

The film is about exploration which the teaser brought across wonderfully.

Neither Inception, The Dark Knight or The Dark Knight Rises teasers gave any indication to what they were about.

so poignant and such a beautiful score...............

Necesity is the mother of of inventon...... for survival you have take the leap and journey into the unknown....

very subtle message with nice clips in the trailer....

can anyway body share the music ? is this original score, any confirmation ?

Pretty sure that, a few pages back, someone confirmed that it was Zimmer's score. I hope so, it sounds beautiful.

^Pretty much.

In this thread when he got cast there's a few pages where I was defending him because people were purely judging him on his romcoms like The Wedding Planner and whatnot.

Completely forgetting (or not knowing) of films like Amistad and Contact.

Not the least bit surprised.

McConaughey's always been solid, assuming you've followed his career over the years. That won't stop the inevitable praise for Nolan for inventing him though.

Well they got a year to explore his recent string of amazing roles in quality films. Before the whole, "He was always a good actor!" bandwagon starts.

Not what I was expecting from a Nolan film even. I'm glad he looks to be doing something different. Even the cinematography doesn't seem very Nolan-esque. This combined with the cast, this all feels very refreshing.

But I love the message here: The irony that we need to do the thing we've been neglecting in order to save the failing thing that we think we've been focusing on.

I even got the sense of wonder from this trailer in a way. Combined with the ominous tone, how we've forgotten the wonder of the unknown and space and lost touch with adventure even. McCounaghey's narration really nailed it juxtaposed with the images. Very subtle yet with a lot to say. This is good Nolan writing. :awesome: It's a trailer you get more from the more you watch it.

It does also seem to be making a point at how we as humans haven't even attempted to do anything beyond going to the moon or just being on space stations.

I feel this isn't just addressing real life but in film as well. It's been a long time since we've seen a high concept movie about discovering the unknown.

Similar as to how The Prestige addressed the magic and illusion of film, this could be about the wonder of discovery.

I don't care what anybody says but McConaughey has always been a solid actor. Matthew was great in A Time to Kill, decent in Contact, and very memorable in U-571. Hell, I loved his performance in Reign of Fire too -- he was almost unrecognizable in that role. In some ways, he's been underrated but doing a ton of Rom-Coms (substandard ones at that) didn't do him any favors.

He actually out did Bale in Reign of Fire, which isn't easy to do. Though that character was more interesting anyway.

The Rom Con thing didn't do him any favors but what he's been doing since Lincoln Lawyer has been nothing but great choices. He's doing all the right things. Doing more low key small budgeted projects that really got himself to focus on his true acting ability more.

Nolan always has his characters spell out the themes over and over and over again and I expect more of the same with Interstellar. Most people would consider that bad writing but Nolan mostly pulls it off.

Everyone is saying that they find this teaser hopeful but I don't. Seems far more melancholy and ominous to me. There's some huge juxtaposition going on. There's allusions that the film will deal with issues of failing agriculture due to the dust bowl and farmer grabbing dirt stock footage then we get some footage from the film with the fire burning a portion of the crops with someone still seemingly working on the field.

But all of this is happening behind MM speech which can be construed as inspirational. They help propagate that by then showing all our aerial/space faring accomplishments and the excitement that exploration and success brings to us. Only for it to quickly shift back to the fact that we've been slowing down dramatically when it comes to manned missions of space exploration.

Then back to film footage of MM tearing up as he drives away from this rural area only to end the trailer with those two people holding hands as this lonely ship goes out into space to seemingly find a solution I would assume to remedy our failing ability to grow anything.

The goal is positive and inspirational but the circumstances seem to be dire.

It certainly feels that way. The teaser hints at a bleak outlook on humanity's lack of sense of discovery and exploration from the last decade or so.

Yep, breaks the "show don't tell" rule of screenwriting, but he's pretty good at it. :woot:

Wasn't Prometheus hyped as that?

Yeah, but I mean as something more grounded with Earth. Something that everyone is a part of. Given the sounds of the story, this is a story of discovery for the good of mankind. Beef that up to survival.

Nolan is guilty of this, yes. Just look at all his films. Though The Prestige is an exception. But the reason Nolan gets away with it is because of the directing of his ability to execute everything surrounding those themes in a quality and entertaining way.

And taking his shirt off whenever possible. :D

The man is awesome. If I had a body like his, I would too.

Agreed. I found Van Zan the more interesting character. McConaughey brought an edge to him.

True, I thought Lincoln Lawyer was a good choice for Matthew even though the film got no love from the mainstream media. Mud and Dallas Buyer's Club were fantastic as well.

I've yet to see Mud. I've heard nothing but great things about it.
