Interstellar - Part 3

Yup. Also, I feel pretty confident that Nolan's next film might be with Disney (that's where Horn is right now, right?) or maybe with Paramount again if he had a great experience with them. Where is Robinov headed? Fox?

I believe there were rumors of that but not sure if it ever happened. The Horn connection is good for Disney, but they would also have to give Nolan complete control of the production.

I question whether Nolan is a good fit with Disney, they don't really make films for mature audiences.

They used to under the Touchstone Pictures brand. The Prestige was released under the Touchstone label. Not sure what they've been doing lately under the Touchstone brand.

Yeah, I agree. If only Spielberg thought the same way, we wouldn't have gotten that kid-friendly Lincoln last year.

That wasn't the teaser. That was trailer one. Inception teaser was shorter than Interstellar, contained a handful of shots from the film, the only one of note was a brief glimpse of the hallway anti-gravity scene, no dialog and the tag line 'Your Mind is the Scene of the Crime. That was pretty much it.

You are correct. But again, the anti-gravity stuff is intriguing even in this limited context.

If you liked the Interstellar teaser, that's totally fine. Personally it didn't elicit much excitement or interest. I've been following this project for a long time, since there were rumblings about Spielberg years back and such so obviously I'm interested in the movie, but if I was completely unaware of the film before, the teaser wouldn't have done much to pique my interest.

I mean if you take into account stuff like Tron Legacy, that is probably the closest to something Nolan-esque Disney would probably do. You can make cerebral crowd pleasers that don't need to be simply adult fare. The only way that movie didn't get a PG-13 was because getting derezzed wasn't bloody.

Touchstone my friend, I referring specifically to the Disney brand.

Dude, you had said the Interstellar trailer was like discovery channel stuff, not like Star Trek stuff.

It's not surprising that it bears some resemblance to Star Trek... Interstellar is supposedly about space exploration, which is what Star Trek claims to be about.
I live very close to JPL. I have a feeling that a lot of folks here are going to love the **** out of Interstellar. :yay:

If you're gonna post any official or fan-made stuff, you need to at least link it, or try give credit where credit is due.

That Teaser gave me no idea about what the movie is about. I'm slightly dissapointed in it.

How dare you be slightly disappointed! You should be over analyzing this teaser and sight unseen trying to make the movie sound more intelligent than it is eventhough the director and writer are going to have the characters yell out the themes a 1000 times during the 2 and a half hour runtime.

And yet that still would make it smarter than any blockbuster released this year. At least any during the summer. :oldrazz:

Does anybody remember the teaser for TDK where it was no picture and just audio of Michael Caine talking about "watch the world burn" and Ledger's laugh? Or the teaser for TDKR that featured all of .5 seconds of Bane and Batman plus some hard-to-understand dialogue from Gary Oldman? How about the teaser for Inception, which featured a few shots of ominous hallways and Leonardo DiCaprio looking intense?

None of his teasers impress the fanboys, because they are always cryptic. Then by opening day they are eating out of his hand. Or they refuse to, but still follow the imitators like Zack Snyder, Marc Webb and even Sam Mendes.

It is a formula of Internet discontent at this point. And it is actually pretty funny.

Nailed it.

I don't see how the above is any worse than making up your mind in the negative beforehand, which you seem to have already done. Pretty damn funny seeing someone whine about "on the nose" writing and then giving a 9/10 rating to Man of Steel. Can't get any more on the nose than David Goyer's writing.

I honestly don't think this film will be much about space or too science-fictiony. This reads to me as Nolan's critique of the human race at this point in time and how out of tune we've become with what's important. Whatever flashy stuff he offers will be background fodder for me.

Maybe I'm reading into it too much, but I think a lot of people's preconceived notions about this film will be dead wrong. I await to be pleasantly surprised.

You can just click the pic. And the link is in the address bar. Boom.

There is a valid question brought up by the teaser trailer. Does Jonathan Nolan's original script have any of the mumbo jumbo that McConaughey was talking about in the teaser? Any of you script readers care to chime in on that topic?

I really don't want to send this thread off topic so I'll keep it to Interstellar. I find a lot of fans responses to everything surrounding Nolan's films Hyperbolic and deeply obnoxious. I mean I thought the teaser was fine for what it was but I can barely come back in here because the fanbase annoys me. The people who don't care about this teaser, who don't find it to be a religious experience have that right.

I think Inception is a masterpiece and Interstellar is my most anticipated film because of my feelings for Inception and The Prestige among his other great works. Nolan is a great director but I will not pretend that his flaws as a writer and director do not exist to make you or anyone else happy. Now I don't want to make this thread about me so carry on with your analyzing. Have a ball.

I fully agree. To me it was just a teaser, nothing more and nothing less. In terms of his flaws as a filmmaker, I am very aware of them but at the same time I do not assume he's going to keep making the same mistakes every time.

The Prestige was not full of characters spouting the movie's themes over and over. The characters' actions spoke far louder than any words in that movie. Who is to say Interstellar isn't another Prestige in terms of writing?

I don't remember it in the old draft. I believe this monologue is part of a story he is telling his daughter in the film.

Ahem. Not to be too spoilery, but space travel will be in the film. Likely more than you are expecting.

I do not know if those exact lines are in it, but early on McConaughey's character, as well as his father for that matter (who I am GUESSING John Lithgow is playing), is confronted with a "this is what the world is" during the movie's first act. This sounds likely to be one of his retorts to those situations.

Oh I'm aware of that, but while people may think this is the focus of the film, I think its merely a front for the bigger picture.
