Interstellar - Part 4

Agreed. Hell, even the internet's #1 Nolan troll Devin Faraci praised the emotion in this trailer. (He also took a nice shot at global warming deniers... I usually can't stand Devin, but he gets a thumbs up from me for that.)

Devin liked it? Well, maybe now that Nolan's immediate legacy isn't a threat to his precious MCU, he can speak some common sense? :hehe:

Yes, this trailer was terrific. It revealed just enough to display what might be the most emotional movie Nolan ever made (the marketing certainly has the feelz). Better still, it only glimpses less than half of the narrative. There is a whole lot of movie we are not seeing, and that makes me even more excited for the finished product.

Annestronaut. :hrt:

Why such a comment? Did I offend you in any way? I have only commented about the trailer and that it looks like an indie, possessing some hallmarks of indie films (which are perfectly fine films by the way, win lots of awards and the word itself is not a criticism by itself in any way).

Did I offend you?

Not to pick on you, but it seems that you have a rather broad definition of an "indie film." Apparently, the fact that much of the trailer does not have special effects and is set on a farm and that it uses handheld camera shots (as well as cranes) that it's "indie." It is an odd complaint when it also features a space ship going through a wormhole. I think that is why there is so much criticism when you compare it to Mud, which is actually a pretty great movie and hardly low budget for its genre.

Finally got a chance to see the trailer and I definitely agree with others here that the editing is very clunky.

its indie when they play this song in the trailer...
that thing so so overused.. i hate that song because of that :D

The editing at the beginning was very fast. For example the bit in the car when the son says "Murphy's Law" and he makes a face was really quick. However, the thing that stuck out to me was the initial dialogue when they describe Coop's character ("You're a well educated man Coop, and a pilot and an engineer." They literally just say what he is around a table, same with when they speak about the surveillance drone.

It doesn't ruin the overall trailer for me but I hope those two little bits come off better in the actual film.

How does somebody give The Prestige a 1/10? That script is amazing.

Never understood the "Nolan is cold" argument either.

lol same here. Nolan is no doubt cerebral, but the characters in his films all evoke some type of warmth from me. For example; TDK is a tragedy, well how can you not weep or at least feel some type of emotion from a tragedy?

Very true; it broke new ground in the superhero genre. For the first time, we not only see the hero not only get rejected by the girl, but also lose her completely. We also see Harvey's fall, which is so tragic given the symbol of hope that he was. If people couldn't make an emotional connection with all of that... screw it, they already had their minds made up.

Ending of TDK is one of the most emotional 10 minute segments of any superhero film.

DarthSkywalker, Rowser... I'm with you on everything you've said. ;)

As for the trailer itself. Great look, great 'feels' as the kids say, good music (but no so good, coming off the teaser music) and loved all the space shots. I only wish there were moooaar.

Oh, and as suit as I saw space suit Anne, which I wasn't expecting, I too thought "There ya go, AnneFan". :D

Me too. My favourite 10 minutes of the film (of most films).

Really, the only Nolan movie I've found emotionally cold was Inception. Even that has some high emotion scenes (that ending). Then again, I can't stand schmaltz in films, so while I love what I'm feeling from the trailer so far, I hope he doesn't go overboard with it.

I just watched it and it still gets me today. Rises is no slouch either. Oh my god. Now I know I'm talking about the audience here but I don't think I've ever been in a theater with so much emotion than during the last few minutes of that movie. There were tears, depression, gasps, and then finally a thunderous roar that didn't stop until after The title came on screen for the very last time.

The ending to all three bat films were perfect to me.

For all the flaws in Rises the ending is just so goddamn perfect for that trilogy IMO. I know some will argue against it but every theme brought up in BB is paid off in TDKR for me. In fact.... now I think about it the ending of all of Nolan's films could be my favorite parts.

The man knows how to end a movie. I know that much.

Oh man, right when Batman says "I killed those people..." and the music kicks in, I frickin' lost it in the theater. Then he runs off to the bat-pod and Gordon has his little soliloquy, just amazing.

Inception's ending is another good one.

Oh man you're not the only one. Oh man. Mouth wide open. I love the final monologue in Memento, and the final shot of The Prestige stayed with me for a long time.

I think we should rank Nolan's endings now! So much fun this could be.

That...that could be the toughest thing to do with Nolan's filmography. Endings seem to be his strong suit, so it's very hard to choose between them.

Yeah the whole TDK trilogy had great endings. But how excited did we all get at the end of BB when we saw that joker card ;) Oh man too good. And Gordon saying "I never said thank you" and Batman just saying "and you'll never have to" then gliding off and the music kicking in. BOOM. Amazing.
