Interstellar - Part 4

Inception had a magnificent trailer. This trailer was extremely flat.

Before they showed the space footage, it looked like a low budget indie. It might as well have been Mud part 2.

And even the space footage was miles below Gravity.

And his supposed secrecy hinders the trailer as he tells almost nothing and it cuts for a very boring and shrug inducing trailer.

The marketing is not off to the best start. The next trailer better bring the goods.

Not impressed to be honest. I guess i'll have to wait for the next trailer to decide if i see this on the big screen or not.

I'm quite excited for this movie. Even more so after seeing that trailer. It looks to have quite an interesting story.

Just saw the Tars screenshot. Does that mean the imdb idiot is wrong?

But if it is simply a nod to Tars, I will be heartbroken.

What the imdb idiot say? Btw, never listen to Imdb boards.

I'm intrigued a bit more. Not a bad trailer but not outstanding either.

Mud is your definition of low budget indie? Lol. I thought that the first teaser could have been something directed by Jeff Nichols because of the setting & the feel of it, I still feel it a bit in the first part of the trailer.

But how does it look like a low budget indie? Because it's in the corn fields & it's people talking? Seriously, I don't get it.

Telling us nothing is great, that way, we'll go in the theater fresh, not having everything spoiled to us beforehand, forgive Nolan for wanting to keep a few surprises up his sleeve & essentially going for a more human tone, something with heart.

I don't know either. It could be that Tars is
just like his version of Hal? I want a physical robot though. :argh:

That Nolan removed the
alien and robot stuff in the original script and just focused more on the emotional aspect of the film and the time travel piece of it.

Trailers are playing hide and seek. It can be frustrating, but I like what I saw.

I thought of Mud because of Mac. And the very small setting and the hand held footage made me think of it is a low budget indie. There was nothing in that first portion of that trailer that you can't do in a budget of mess than a million dollars.

And "heart" and Nolan? That must definitely be a first.

Incredible trailer. I could not give two farts if they plan on revealing absolutely nothing, I love trailers that primarily ooze tone and atmosphere - like Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Godzilla, this, and my personal favourite trailer of all time, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Fincher). This was poignant as hell despite being only 3 minutes. It goes to show the power of music and visuals.

Damn, you are just here to hate aren't you? Not even trying to hide it. :funny:

This trailer might not have the wowing spectacle of the Inception trailer, but it has tons of more emotion and resonance. Two different approaches to the trailers, and I dig the execution of both. I don't see why a trailer needs to be thunderous to impress. In this day and age I actually feel that something more low-key is often underrated.

The trailer would appear right after I got out of work. :o

I do agree with the above, trailer was ok it could've been much better. It reminds me a bit from Space Cowboys and Europa Report.

Yep. Interstellar is not TDK, Memento, the Prestige or Inception, It is something else as the trailers demonstrates. Nolan has far more range then given credit for.

That jacket will have the most screen time in the movie. :funny:

Yes, which is why it isn't a great trailer to me.
It is trying too hard to "hide". Kind of JJ Abrams style. You usually can watch a Nolan trailer and see fantastic imagery without necessarily knowing the plot. Here the plot is obvious, but they don't want to let the space travels out of the bag yet, so it feels like a bad tease imo.

I think you nailed the problem with the trailer. It's admirable that they are trying to keep things under wrap I just wish they would have found a better way to edit the trailer.

what are they holding back? i didnt read the script.

to me it looks like this is all first act that sets up the story. isnt this a great way to tease the movie?
