Interstellar - Part 4

The budget was probably $200m at most. Maybe $180m.

Given the huge number of A-listers in the cast, I'm guessing the budget would be in the $200-$250m range, although granted, McConaughey, Hathaway and Chastain aren't particularly notorious for demanding exorbitant salaries. *cough* Depp *cough*. So I could be wrong.

I think McConaughey and Hathaway are the only ones who are getting paid big bucks in the cast. But still not in the Depp/RDJ/Di Caprio/Bullock/etc. levels obviously. I consider Chastain an A-Lister in terms of acclaim and that kind of thing but she's not yet at that level where she's getting a lot IMO.

They could also be getting smaller salaries in exchange for a % of the profits. IIRC Di Caprio did that with Inception (smaller upfront + % of the profits).

ETA: Totally forgot about Damon. Out of the entire cast, he's the one that could demand the biggest $ but for some reason, I don't think he asked for much. That guy has been itching to work with Nolan forever.

I think he did but he's been gushing about Nolan at every chance he gets so I always thought it's only a matter of time until he worked with him.

Look who's name is at the top... yea I doubt McConaughey is getting the payment contract DiCaprio was given. :cwink:

As for Damon, I doubt he's getting paid handsomely for this. His name isn't even billed on the poster! His role could be a cameo for all we know.

I thought his role was confirmed as a cameo?

Also for those who read the script is there any small character important enough to warrant an actor like Damon to play it or are they all very standard?

As for Damon missing out on Dent I don't think anyone expected TDK to be the dark adult thriller it was. He just seems like an actor not big on roles in CBMs which is fair. Ledger was the same before TDK.

Yeah I thought that was pretty telling. Inception was marketed as Di Caprio's movie while Interstellar is a Christopher Nolan movie. :funny:

I wish I remember where I read it or where I got this idea but it seems like his role was bigger than what was originally reported (it was indiewire who said that it was a cameo)? Like, I think, he was in the entirety of Iceland shoot or something like that? I could be wrong though!

There are a few small roles that I thought he might be playing but when it seemed like his role was bigger than a cameo (as once reported) then I just assumed that it's either a new role or an expanded role.

I'm kinda glad Damon turned the role down, cause Eckhart was my favorite actor in TDK. Plus, I just can't see Damon as Dent/Two Face. And I like Damon, I think he's a great actor.

Does anyone else think...

Damon is the voice of TARS?

Could be but why
is he needed to be in Iceland if he's just doing voice work?

In the script, there is a lead robot from the Chinese spacecraft that they met at the planet so i was thinking he's playing that and they changed the nationality. I'm not so sure of that though...

If I remember correctly, there were sightings of Damon on twitter in the[BLACKOUT] LA shoot at the hotel[/BLACKOUT], it wasn't really reported on by any entertainment sites/blogs though (if I recall correctly), nor were there any pictures, so there's a high chance the sighting was a farce.

Valid question.

I just figured it is a pretty big role but also the type of thing where Nolan might want to keep it totally under wraps since it's one of the best characters in the script.

Knowing Damon's sense of humor, I could easily see his voice playing well in that role and the general audience would eat it up due to how famous he is.

I edited my post to add my guess on who he's playing. I think it's an expanded role. Maaaybe.

But yeah I totally love
Tars. Such a scene stealer. I love me some sarcastic robots. :D

Ah I see. I just remember reading stuff here and there and it seems like the conclusion from the forums was that his role was bigger than a cameo. Who knows though... It might be a cameo in a scene that requires a long shoot or something like that?

New trailer was decent, but not enough to get me extremely excited for the film yet.

Looks fantastic. Plus, having just graduated with a Mechanical Engineer degree, I know all about Murphy's law. I never expected a movie to revolve around it though. :woot:

Why are some people so preoccupied with money in the industry ? Are you financial advisors of Nolan ? Maybe studio producers ? :woot:

I know films have to make money. Good filmmakers need to have sucesses so they can keep doing what they want but...that's their concern. Not the audience.

Just enjoy the ride.

I can only speak for myself but i do hope that movies like Insterstellar do make money. I am hoping the end product is satisfying .
But having movies like these make money just gives out a message to studios that Original properties can make money and that studios don't need to make the zillionth sequel or reboot.
Not to mention that i don't want to see Nolan fall.
He is one of those rare cases of actually knowing how far to go eveen if he has tons of freedom to make his movies.

Keep thinking of MM's role in Contact each time I watch the trailer. Maybe it's because I 'm drawing parallels between the two film's themes... sense of exploration, family element, etc...

I think Damon for just being such a an empathetic movie star could have done a good ob of getting audiences to instantly invest in Harvey Dent's arc and his plight as something of significance, which I think sneaks up on people who just come int to see Batman vs. Joker.

But yes, if you are there for the full story, Eckhart is quite good and tragic in the role.

I thought the trailer was fine but I thought i'd be more hyped after seeing it? Anyone feel like they felt more excitement seeing the Inception trailer the first time vs this one?

I did.

Still think this movie is going to be damn good but I would rate the trailers like this:

Inception trailer #2 > Inception teaser > Interstellar teaser > Interstellar trailer #2
