Interstellar - Part 4

This movie is obviously going to make bucketloads of money, regardless of quality.

Nolan is one of the biggest brands in the world today, enough to sell a movie on his own name. The marketing needs to make him very visible and splash his name all across the posters and trailers. Worldwide, he is a bigger draw than any of the cast members.

So simply being a Nolan directed film, it would have a huge anticipation factor amongst a very very wide portion of worldwide cinema goers and it will do just fine.

It won't even come close to being a flop or even an average success - this will be a straight up blockbuster.

I thought the trailer was fine but I thought i'd be more hyped after seeing it? Anyone feel like they felt more excitement seeing the Inception trailer the first time vs this one?

I did, but this trailer evokes a different feeling altogether.

Inception trailers have a "WOAH, that looks crazy, what the hell's going on here?", "I'm excited and I don't know why!" type of feel.

Interstellar's trailers have been more flat out inspiring to me. And to me it makes it clear that the movie is going to have a different tone and pacing than Nolan's movies usually do. The missing factor here is adrenaline, but Interstellar presumably has less action and is going for something entirely different.

Just the mere idea of an interstellar space mission being treated in a more reality-based fashion, with actual physics theories behind the ideas in the film, with this level of talent involved both in front and behind the camera...that makes me really excited to take that journey and explore the unknown. Preserving that unknown and not giving too much away seems especially crucial here.

Got the trailer before Godzilla, got me more excited than the film did which was surprising.

Those space scenes on the big screen were just

I got a trailer before Godzilla too, though not the new one. Which I was disappointed about. But anyway, I liked it.

I did.

Still think this movie is going to be damn good but I would rate the trailers like this:

Inception trailer #2 > Inception teaser > Interstellar teaser > Interstellar trailer #2
Well, usually a trailer for an action film will get you more excited than one for a drama, right?

I'm pretty sure we will all have our panties bunched up after watching the trailer for the next big comic book event film. Wes Anderson's new film? Not so much.

I actually like this trailer a little more than Inception's second teaser. That was only one minute I think and had some money shots but i remember being intrigued AND confused as hell. It was trailer 3 that was really impressive for Inception.

Yeah I don't get the Inception comparisons. It's a full on action thriller. Interstellar is a science fiction drama. It may have some money shots but the pace of the trailer wont ramp up.

Yeah, if this was a trailer for a summer blockbuster then I'd understand the comparisons. This is a November release, one that will surely have spectacle and awe in its visuals, but I'd have to guess that this won't be classified as an action movie at the end of the day. I haven't read the script and don't care to know, but two trailers in and they are NOT trying to sell this movie on action, but on the ideas and the heart. Sounds like a straight sci-fi drama to me.

Based on the script, it will have far more awe inspiring sequences than Inception. Take the gravity scene, compound it to ten and then extend it over many scenes and it still comes short of the sequences I read.

Jeez, wow. I really have no idea what to expect and I'm loving that.

Nolan has actually managed to convince some people it is primarily a family drama with the space scenes as a bookend. I can't help but be amused when I think about how surprised they will be when its anything but.

I was thinking, who would've played Cooper if Spielberg directed it? It seemed like the part was written for Tom Cruise, since the script was quite consciously Spielbergian.

Personally, I love Matthew's casting. His Southern drawl fits the middle American setting of Earth perfectly.

That could work out really well or it could backfire. Will be curious to see if that strategy continues with the next trailer.

Nolan has Nolan to blame for that. But the question is will it help or backfire. Especially if there are Trailers & TV Spots that show nadda. Are they expecting the General Audience to flock to this just because its a Nolan movie ? & if they dont give people reasoning to see this movie by having good trailers ? That could make TASM 2 mess look good

I almost wish this would be released 10 years ago based on the reaction the trailer is getting.

This movie really has the potential to be something special.

Lately I've been pretty well disillusioned with big budget sci fi films as the sci fi elements are just window dressing plastered across pretty standard action movies.

A lot of smaller movies have made for some really thoughtful science fiction but most of the larger movies have left me cold.

This really seems to have the potential to tell a great story, take on some hard science fiction concepts and play with all that on a grand scale with a high caliber cast. I am quite excited. Not only that but it really feels like Nolan stepping beyond some of his usual tendencies.

I love the space shots. They feel completely authentic. Eluding the teal and blue sweeping shots filled with the lens flares of conventional Hollywood. Going instead for a more documentary style. Expectedly, some people hate it for that very reason.

The space shots remind me quite a bit of the space bubble shots from The Fountain. Lets hope that's the only thing about this movie that reminds me of The Fountain.:o

Well, I just found out who Jessica Chastain is playing. Didn't see that coming.

What is it that Nolan isn't telling us? I'm damn curious now that I know who Jessica is playing.

It seems some of you know.

I didn't get the trailer for this before Godzilla. Kind of annoying, but I'd already watched it about 10 times on my computer, so no big deal.
