Interstellar - Part 6

The reverse is people complaining that the marketing gave everything away or otherwise were spectacle and no story.

The trailers have been very "This is the premise" based.

Of course they're holding back.

This movie has insane buzz right now all across the industry, even from competing studios. I'm honestly the furthest thing from worried about it not being good.

Don't forget...the Inception trailers told us nothing. All they showed us was that the characters entered people's dreams. That's it. Nothing about dreams within dreams. Nothing about how the dream layers effected time. Nothing about the actual plot.

Now, this movie might have a more straight forward plot but that doesn't mean it can't be awe-inspiring in a different way.

Space exploration is utterly fascinating, but I wouldn't see a film just because it's about that.

I'm certainly watching this film though, but the only two times in the trailers that I almost had a smile was the wave scene and when they seem to be going through the blackhole.

I hope they are hiding the good stuff.

Are they really leaving the galaxy as one astronaut's line implies? That seems entirely unnecessary given how many planets we already know about within our own galaxy, much less the innumerable planets and moons we haven't yet charted.

Presumably, the wormhole is discovered (not built). Thus, it goes where it goes. :word:

I have no doubt the film is going to be a huge hit and I would be surprised if it weren't good but still think the trailers could be better.

The inception trailer was full of crazy **** and eye candy. People floating, spinning hall way fights, gun fights etc.

And all the buzz we've heard about this film says similar things "the plot is breathtaking" or something along those lines. Well thats all well and good, but not everyone goes just for a good plot. And the general audience likely isnt following the industry buzz. So all they know is what the marketing is presenting and I really dont see anything on display thats gonna make the masses go crazy.

Right now what has me most interested in this film is the wormhole. Is it a natural phenomenon or a creation by some other species? Will this be explored in the film? I could honestly care less about Earth's plight. Im in this for scifi stuff.

Inception was also an outright summer blockbuster film. Interstellar's marketing has focused on the emotional stakes and the acting personnel much as other awards seasons films have.

Is the "humans have f***ed up the planet" angle too realistic to be speculative fiction at this point? haha

The reactions of some who have seen it say that we really haven't seen much so I guess they are holding stuff back. I still cant see how people complain this isn't showing enough when the common criticism today is "it shows too much!".

It's an interstellar voyage. 99.9% of the "WOW"'s probably come from the visuals themselves. Once you show that in a trailer all that surprise is gone.

This film will live and breath on word of mouth. And Paramount (or whoever is the official studio) are probably focusing on the long run. A decent opening weekend but an amazing word of mouth. If people, like a few here, go to this film but are little put off by the trailers but the film gives us like WAYYYYYYY more than this footage on the ice planet, people are gonna be like "holy cowww you HAVE to see this movie the trailer shows nothing!"

Dont forget we have only seen this ice planet when the early rumours were they actually go to a few.

The important thing though is that Inception wasn't a huge hit it was just because of flashy trailers. Word of mouth gave that movie legs in 2010.

As far as the wormhole goes...I would imagine it's naturally occurring because the whole theory for their existence is based on valid solutions to Einstein's theory of relativity.

What's the significance of the last shot being Anne receiving an orgasm?

While modern physics allow for wormholes they are microscopic wormholes and no ship could go through one. To get one open to the size of the one in this film and for it to be stable enough to pass through youd need to pump an insane amount of energy into it. Like at least the amount of energy a star puts out. So if the one the film is naturally occuring in the solar system then their would need to be a massive amount of energy coming from one end. Could be a black hole. If its not natural then whatever did open it would need to be a highly advanced civilization to harness the energy of a star. We're talking type 2&3 civilization. For comparison the human species isnt even a Type 1 civilalization yet.

Granted its a fictional film so I guess Nolan can do whatever he wants with it, but wormholes bring up a lot of interesting questions and plot opportunities so if the film just uses the wormhole as a mere plot device Im gonna be really disappointed.

Thank you!:) While it could have been changed for the final film this little nugget of info definitely peaks my interest.

Well the story is based off of one of the greatest theoretical physicist out there treatment. I think he knows his science.

Which physicist was it? I know its been mentioned but Ive forgotten?

I just think it is amazing that the film is apparently around 3 hours, and we haven't seen 3 mins of it yet, even with all the trailers. It is impressive. Though I expect it would be a bit too spoilery to show much more. Nolan, I am ready.

Its a 3 hour film. Surely there is more interesting material in that film that the marketing team could use and if there isnt...

Either they are holding back a lot of eye candy and banking on Nolan's name (incredibly foolish imo) or what's in the trailer is the best representation of the big moments in the film (an altogether more unsettling prospect).

Or they know that no matter how much eye candy you put into a sci-fi trailer, you can only open it so big. This is not a franchise with a huge built in audience.

WB marketed the heck out of Inception including a ton of money shots and it opened to...$62m. Chump change compared to the Avengers' $207m and so many other big franchise openings in the last 10-15 years.

Bottom line is it will sink or swim based on word of mouth.

Trailer was fantastic. This could be Anne's best role and movie yet, and I think it could be Nolan's as well.

^ I will do that. I'm hoping there's a collectable Interstellar cup and popcorn holder, too. :oldrazz:
