Interstellar - Part 6

Trailer was fantastic. This could be Anne's best role and movie yet, and I think it could be Nolan's as well.
And that has nothing to do with Anne being in it. :woot:

:hehe:

I think Interstellar and Inception will be my top two Nolan films. I enjoy space/science fiction stuff as well as psychology. They're right up my alley.

I hard a hard time picking between TDK, Memento, and Inception for my favorite, but I love all of Nolan's films. But AnneFan, I understand that special feeling when someone you are a big fan of is involved in a promising project. So I completely get your excitement here. I am a fan of Anne as well, though not on your level. Just a bit fun to tease. :)

Just looked him up. Id love to read his textbook Gravitation but the damn thing is $170! Gonna have to go through some used book stores.

Well, I recently got this book by Kip Thorne (mainly because of this movie and my interest in astronomy), though I still haven't found time to read it.

What's the significance of the last shot being Anne receiving an orgasm?
Because again to finish the trailer for Matthew was unnecessary. Therefore, the last moment in the trailer is the orgasm Anne.:woot:

Anne very impressive in trailer. I think she can compete for the Oscar. And I like that the trailer ends with Anne.:yay:

I'd count this latest trailer as the weakest of all of them but it was still good. I think I actually prefer the more abstractness of the first two.

I don't know, I really liked the latest trailer. Feels like a classic final Nolan trailer to me.

Well in the script:

It's not natural

well that makes thing more interesting for sure, so far is all build up and exposition but no payoff. Its not star wars but if you want to grab the general audience you have to show a glimpse of something more meatier. I don't think Nolans name alone is enough sale, and its a 3 hour movie that looks more like a documentary about space flight than and an actual movie. I love documentary s but this is a tough sale for a general audience.

I dont think this will give NASA any extra funds, and Cosmos wasn't even close to getting a huge general audience, it did good but nothing crazy. The idea its not bad but when i see Seth MacFarlane name on anything i stay as far away as possible

I grabbed a sample of that one on my Kindle. Im still reading the story at the beginning about the astronauts at the various black holes. Its got me thinking about how Interstellar is gonna end
I dont think Matt's family is gonna be alive when he gets back. If he's leaving the galaxy and traveling faster than the speed of light or near it then there is no way his kids will be alive if and when he gets back to earth. Due to time warping a lot more years are going to pass on earth than pass for him and his crew. Thats gonna be sad as ****.:(
Im prolly gonna buy the book. Should be a good primer to read before watching the film.

I found his Gravitational textbook used for $40. Might throw down some cash on that as well later. Its said to be the "Bible" of general relativity physics so it seems like a "must have" for anyone with an interest in astrophysics. Not sure Ill understand it all, but it'll be a great resource to have lying around.

I thought the new trailer was still underwhelming. They're clearly still holding things back. Which is good, because I'll definitely still see the movie that way (the good bits aren't spoiled already!) and besides, it's Nolan. :oldrazz:

I had not seen this banner, slightly different than an earlier poster.

My least favorite trailer so far, but that doesn't say much as I've been blown away emotionally by the rest of them.

Just came across this:

The Science of Interstellar by Kip Thorne with Forward by Christopher Nolan
Amazing.

About music of trailer. Like the part after 2:30+ - goose bumps. 3:17 reminds me of "gravity" with female chanting. Beautiful. And in the end the same sound as "Inception", when the show totem.

I still pleases the final trailer for the fact that he does not end once again at Matthew. And he ends with Anne.

The only thing that worried me about this movie was stuff looking "cheesy" once they got to the other planets. Not only anything they might find there but the landscapes themselves.

I love the look of the
Lagoon Planet
and the waves look really awesome.

However I am worried the whole
"floating upside down mountains"
aren't too over the top. It's probably that my brain just can't accept that those could be real, but if anyone could make me believe I guess it is Nolan. I have seen part of them in the trailer but it is a very narrow shot.

The robots look much cooler than I thought so that gives me hope. In the end it is just 1 small part of the movie, but once I think something is hokey it tends to ruin stuff for me....

FILM DIRECTOR $250K-$20M A PICTURE
"The middle range doesn't exist anymore," one studio executive says of the current financial landscape for feature film directors. "Either you're paying for a modern master, or you're paying a lot less. The days of paying $3 million or $4 million, knowing they're just doing the job, that doesn't exist."

The going rate for modern masters? Between $7 million and $10 million for auteurs like Paul Greengrass and Ridley Scott, more if the film is considered a tentpole. Christopher Nolan is said to have made $20 million against 20 percent of gross for Interstellar. Backend is otherwise rare these days for the non-A-list.

On the other end of the scale, emerging directors can expect $250,000 to $500,000 for their first big studio feature, but there are exceptions (one European auteur was said to have recently have been paid $1 million for his first Hollywood blockbuster).

...mean exactly?

It means he can buy as many vests as he wants for himself.

At first, I thought $20M upfront PLUS 20% of the gross but the "against" is throwing me off so I guess $20M OR 20% of gross whichever is higher?

Didn't he make like 70million for Inception? He probably also got money for each of his credits for The Dark Knight Trilogy. Writer/Producer/Director. Goddamn. He should buy bald Whedon a new wig.

i did not mean to come off condescending or whatever in my previous posts. if i did, i apologize. i was honestly trying to get a feel for what the detractors are wanting from this marketing because i was seeing an attitude of "the marketing is failing this movie," basically, when i actually think the marketing is doing a good job, at least as far as what i know about the movie that the marketing is trying to promote. now, maybe when i see the film i will think it was totally misrepresented by the trailers, but right now the trailers have me excited for a film i think i am really going to like. whereas for some of you, maybe you are just seeing parts of a film you're really not going to care for much.

as others have pointed out, i don't know what these trailers are supposed to show you to "wow" you if you're not interested in the concepts of this film (sustainability vs. entropy, personal sacrifice for the good of humanity, relativity, responsibility as a father vs. duty) or if the visuals aren't enough to excite you. me, i'm just thrilled we're seeing an extremely talented director, crew, and cast take on a modern space exploration flick with a sense of realism but also some speculative elements and a big budget and shot on film and IMAX and a lot of practical effects and so on. the very form of this movie excites me, and it won't do that for everyone, but this is the movie that it is. i don't know what the marketing is supposed to be doing so differently to wow those of you who are nonplussed, other than give a lot away that i, personally, am glad is not being given away.

i will say that i didn't care for the teaser a ton but i've liked these last three, with the third of the four probably my favorite. stuff has been repeated but each trailer has had its own vibe and emotional hue and so while reusing imagery helps them avoid revealing too much, it also gives a sense of motifs and themes building and arcing in intensity in a way that i hope the film itself capitalizes on.

I'm still old school when it comes to going out and seeing films. I will blind buy a ticket based on a Director/Actor. It doesn't always pay off, but Nolan is one of those guys for me.
