Interstellar - Part 6

It's interesting how the trailers have been harder for some to get into.

The visuals look stunning to me, the big emotions are palpable, the chemistry of the cast seems great, the set design looks perfect, the stakes are there, what we don't know of the plot is intriguing, the scale it hints at feels massive.

I have no doubt that for some people the trailers are missing that "thing" that makes you get hyped for a movie, but for me they all ooze goodness. To be fair though, it's been a slow burn because the first couple of trailers didn't show much, but the way they've all built upon each other has made the hype really creep up on me all of a sudden.

^ This.

Totally agree with you.

By the end of this trailer, I had tears in my eyes. I don't know how Nolan does it. Making his films in the essence of changing your life. Feels like he knows exactly where your soul is and grabs it and shakes it awake. Makes it anew. Or at least that's how his films make me feel.

No. Check.

Christopher Nolan's campaign to save film from becoming an extinct format is paying off, thanks to his sway with Hollywood studios.

On Wednesday, Paramount and Warner Bros. said that approximately 240 theaters in 77 markets that are still equipped to project 35mm and 70mm film will get Nolan's Interstellar two days early on Nov. 5, including 41 Imax locations. Some cinemas are even bringing in film projectors to play the space epic, including TCL's Chinese Imax theater in Los Angeles.

The move is a symbolic victory for Nolan and other filmmakers, including J.J. Abrams, who recently convinced Hollywood studios to keep troubled Kodak alive by paying for a certain amount of film processing. If Kodak goes out of business, film all but ends. With the rise of digital imaging technologies, Kodak's film sales have plummeted by 96 percent over the last decade. The decline has accelerated in the last two years as most theaters have completed their conversion to digital.

"We are taking a moment to acknowledge the huge heritage of film by opening the film two days early in theaters than can offer that format. Filmmakers like Chris and J.J. want to make sure that film is a part of the business going forward," Paramount vice chairman Rob Moore told The Hollywood Reporter.

As part of the initiative, Moore said Nolan is working with Google to create a community where consumers can explore what seeing a movie is like in various formats. It will be a component of Google's Interstellar homepage, which will launch shortly. "We hope this will help to engage moviegoers and improve information. We, and Chris, are big believers in seeing movies in theaters," Moore said.

Finally a trailer I enjoyed for this film. Still seeing it regardless out of curiosity.

I think for me, the most mind-melting aspect of this movie will be the prospect that there is sound science behind a lot of it and that humanity may be able to witness a mission like this one much sooner than one would think, IF people demand that we make space exploration a priority once again and vote accordingly. That aspect of it has me more excited than any potential plot twists. There's a lot of inherent excitement and optimism that comes with space exploration, and I love that a movie RIGHT NOW is coming to remind us of that.

Of course, I'm excited to take the ride too...I have no idea what the actual plot holds in store.

I am going 2 attempt doing a proper epic trailer edit for this one

Trailer #4 was so damn good. This film is going to look so beautiful.

wow.

people don't like this trailer?

different strokes, i guess.

i just got cold chills watching it and i don't even have the sound on, was watching it in tiny form, too.

I still don't feel it, Looks visually very nice (that robot still looks goofy) but the rest im not impressed. The only wow moment probably was a wave of that size, but unless Nolan is saving a whole different movie for the theaters (which would be very impressive to say the least) i wont jump into the wagon. There something about his work that its always so cold and emotionless, if he actually pulls off something different then that would be truly impressive

i don't really understand this idea that the trailers have lacked "wow" moments.

this is not an action film. it is not a Marvel movie. it is an interstellar adventure movie that's attempting to be somewhat grounded in real science and theory. the visuals in these trailers are absolutely gorgeous and the emotional stakes are high and forefronted.

not sure what people are wanting? something different than what the movie is trying to do, as far as i can tell. which is fine, i guess, but i'm so stoked for this thing.

Just because a thing is connected to a Nolan film doesn't mean that everyone has to think that thing is the second coming. Geez Louise, why can't the hardcores get that?

I can't force myself to love trailers that I don't love. Either I love the trailers or I don't.

I think I preferred trailer #3.

Still looking forward to this very much. Might even make the two-hour drive to the nearest IMAX.

I know its not an action film, I know it's not a Marvel movie, that doesn't make a bad trailer good somehow. I for one wanted something I could see and get excited about and not just be excited based on the talent surrounding the project.

Disappointed to see that my local IMAX decided on the digital IMAX option instead of film. When I contacted them last week they said it was still up in the air.

So, how content heavy is this new trailer? Do people recommend not watching it?

Yeah that trailer did nothing for me. Its just the same **** that's been in the other trailers. Aside from trailer ones score, this marketing has done **** all for me. Well the shot of Jupiter is sweet, but in 2014 epic shots of Jupiter are all over the internet.

This is the problem with this marketing. Its not offering much beyond the talent involved. Thats not much for the general audience to be drawn to. This isnt Inception where people are entering dreams and hallways are spinning and ****. This isnt the goddamn Batman. Its Matt and Anne going to other planets and fighting giant waves and walking across ice (elements we see on our own planet) while Michael Caine waxes poetically about the doom of mankind. Even the wormhole is not a new concept. This stuff isnt making people think "Im dying to see this!" And I just dont think Nolan's name is going to have the pull with general audiences like the marketing team is thinking. I can walk into my employers office right now and ask him who Chris Nolan is and he wouldnt have a clue, and he's a fan of the Dark Knight Trilogy. He isnt the only one like this. These people dont give two ****s if Nolan directed this if the story and material isnt interesting to them. So Nolan's name here doesnt mean much to anyone who doesnt go to the movies for specific directors.

The runtime itself is gonna scare some away.

All that to say, if this crosses the billion mark Ill be very surprised.

I think the marketing has done about the best it can with movie as it apparently is. They've done a pretty good job at selling what is a stake and the basic conflict, a man trying to save humanity but being forced to effectively abandon his children.

If none of this is particularly new, that isn't the marketing's fault.

Damn, harsh.

I find it kind of unfortunate if people don't think the subject matter is fascinating on its own merits. It's that kind of thinking that has allowed us to slow down so drastically when it comes to our advancements in space exploration. I know for a fact I'd be all over this movie whether Nolan was directing or not simply because of what it's about and what it represents.

I for one am feeling optimistic and think this movie has the potential to resonate with people. There is an inherent optimism that comes with space exploration and I really feel like now might be a good time in human history to start looking to the stars again. NASA doesn't get the funding it needs if the people don't demand it from their congressmen. I think the huge success of Cosmos on FOX is a great sign that this movie has zeitgeist-ish potential.

If the trailers don't bring people in, I believe word of mouth will. I'm not saying it'll make a billion, but I'll be pretty shocked if this flops. And sad.

Its a 3 hour film. Surely there is more interesting material in that film that the marketing team could use and if there isnt...

Either they are holding back a lot of eye candy and banking on Nolan's name (incredibly foolish imo) or what's in the trailer is the best representation of the big moments in the film (an altogether more unsettling prospect).

That scene with the giant wave is going to turn my stomach inside out in IMAX.
