Much more dramatic than the merger of the Sym and Eddie in TAS.

I also liked how the symbiote brought up the memory of Uncle Ben and then that memory actually "fought back!"

It wasn't just Peter's own memories, it also brought up Brock's own bad memories and seemed to "amplify" them.

Ooh, I'm excited we're getting the origin. Still gots a half'n hour. Can't wait!

I dunno, I kind of liked how the symbiote never had its own voice in TAS. Made it more subtle and mysterious.

That said, I still love this version.

Its off to a great start, they're really showing how the suit is affecting him in this episode.

He's wearing darker clothes and treating his friend's badly and he just went to tombstone and asked if the job offer was still on the table! :wow:
I was expecting Spidey to beat the living s*** out of Tombstone but this is a much badasser (don't even think that's a word) way to show Spidey's changed.

Love it! Can't wait.

WebHead2006, where pray tell is the poll?

oh let me edit thread to make poll sorry. Poll up now rate.

The symbiote clearly is controlling the shots with brock. I was wondering how they would make Brocks drive to kill spiderman would work. I mean if the symbiote has peters memories, wouldnt brock see the good? Clearly the symbiote has spun the memories and has also "drugged" brock.

Oh yes, this episode was the hotness. I posted much more about it in my blog. Click the link on my sig to read it.

That ASM #100 homage made me geek out! I really hope Greg W writes more eps for season 2. This is my fav of the two he's written for this season.

I really wanna see where Gwen goes from here with her feelings for Peter. MJ did give her some good advice.

I ****ing luv'd the 1st half of this episode! Seeing Peter in his "bad mood"...I was hoping we'd get something like that. I was afraid this shows symbiote wouldn't affect his mood because the 616 comic's symbiote didn't. Whatta relief!

Then we see Peter's friends try to comfort him at school...MJ, Gwen, Liz...even Sally (offscreen...and that ***** hates Pete)...and he goes off on them! What the hell, man?! And I foundit funny how so many people here wanted to see an angry Peter knock out Flash Thompson (since a preview screen showed the two meeting at a hospital)...when ironically, it was Flash of all people to knock some sense into Pete! Peter said it best...when you have people like Flash (Eugene...heh) telling ot to you straight, Sally feeling sorry for you, and Tombstone to tell you how out of character you're acting, you know something's wrong with your head.

And not once, but twice do we see Pete and Eddie meet up here. The 1st time, Eddie, no surprise, is a jerk to Peter. Even with his aunt in the hospital (whom Eddie actually came to see), Eddie still has to crap on Peter's day. Bad blood, right there. But after Eddie discovers that the lack of fundings for ESU Lab (caused indirectly by Spider-Man) has resulted in Eddie's termination, and his lack of a job means he can't continue to attend college, Eddie pays Peter a 2nd violent visit...this time Peter doesn't take too kindly. Oh, yes, bad blood all right.

The surprise angle of the episode would be the girl talk between Gwen and MJ. With Haryy gone, it was only a matter of time before the trinity became Peter, Gwen, and Mary Jane fulltime. Its the so-call rival love interest that gets Gwen to finally admit it; that she like likes Peter.

And now, the bad part...act 2. Peter (Spider-Man) arriving at the church's belltower was way too random and coincidentally. Then we have the flashback portion. Spider-Man: TAS did this, too. Both shows forsaked giving us an origin story from the get go to opt instead to give us a flashback tale later on. While I felt TAS did it well, and I do fell SSM did it well, too, it went on, what felt like forever. But this I can forgive. I bring this up only because the very next event continues on from this, with the (IMO) unexciting inner struggle with Peter and Uncle Ben's memory vs. the symbiote's influence. After the incredible fight scenes from last week's Sinister Six episode, I felt underwhelmed by this "battle". I actually found myself saying out loud "oy, can we get to the end already?" Of course, I wanted to see you-know-who's birth, but regardless, it just went on too long for me. It would have been cool to see more of Peter acting like an assertive ass while his friends and unlikely acquaintances "intervened" (and yes, I know the real intervention was his inner struggle).

So, I was wrong about Spidey not returning the symbiote to the lab. I thought "how & why would he? He can't just carry the symbiote as Peter Parker (assuming after ridding himself of the alien, he'd not have much of any civilain clothing, let alone his costume, in tact) all the way to the lab, and why would he willingly return a dangerous organism to people who have an even lesser understanding of what they're dealing with instead of just trying to destroy it?" Well, consistantcy be damned, he had both his Spidey costume and webshooters (really? nearly unlimited webbing, he himself even knew that the alien made his webshooters unnecessary, and he just happens to have his webshooters with him anyway?) at the ready to take the symbiote back to the lab...

So, Eddie returns to the lab one last time where he finds Spidey returning the symbiote. Eddie's happy, because this means the lab will regain its fundings and Eddie will keep his job! But Spidey isn't here to return it...he contains it inside its...well, containment vessel, and turns down the temparture to try and kill it. He tells Eddie its dangerous and shoves Eddie away...this parallels USM's Venom arc a bit, except there Peter gives Eddie a detailed, calm explaination, and here he's more serious and is all "I know what needs to be done; don't question me". I like it. He even swings away without a second though, takes one last look at the now-crushed Eddie Brock, and just continues onwards, with no further words.

Loved it...

So, the symbiote is not dead. It senses Eddie's hatred, and Eddie opens the containment unit. The two begin to join with the alien telling Eddie everything about Spider-Man & Peter. Eddie takes it all in; both the memories and the symbiote...next week can't get here soon enough.

Though I have to say this now...from the previews of next week's episode, it doesn't seem as epic as I had hoped. Something about Spidey & Venom's 1st ever fight taking place in broad daylight...I mean, in every since incarnation, their premier battle has taken place at night. ASM 300, USM, SM: TAS, Marvel Adventures Spider-Man...Bah, I'll save judgment for next Saturday.

Peter's battle with Venom in ASM 300 was in broad daylight.

it seemed like the episode took some lines straight from the movie.

OH yes sir it did. It was a beautiful blend of movie and comic. Especially the origin scene...they tossed a bit of both in there. And you'd think, if you heard about it, that it might not work, but man, these writers know their stuff.

Since the poll is finally up, I couldn't help but give this episode a solid 10. To me, this is what I'm looking for in a new Spidey cartoon. I love the movies, I adore the comics, so this is all I ask for when I want to see Spidey in animation. I wish more comic-based cartoons could take a few cues from these guys. I sympothize with these characters.

They say that with every show, the seasons get better and better. I don't see how this could be topped. It's already greatness...or as it is referred as SPECTACULAR!:woot:

This was probably the best episode this season. Fantastic writing, and a nice establishment of the darker side of the Symbiote.

This show can't be beaten in quality. It's too fantastic.

The appearance of Uncle Ben was a nice touch. And the two running thoughts were well handled. The flashback was truly extraordinary and a brilliant way to introduce the origin of Spider-Man. Best episode I've seen thus far.

er spidey and venoms first confrontation took place in daylight in the comics, where does this so called night time theme come in...???

Amazing episode!!! There was really no action, it was more Peters internal conflict with himself. But the series needed some of that and it worked perfectlly. They took A LOT from the movie in the origin, like saying "there's only 14, ones missing." And seeing Crusher Hogan was cool.

Truly awesome, this show never fails to please. 10.5/10
