Is it taboo to discuss issues of race on the Hype?

I know this is not a political thread, but I generally agree Obama has little to no chance of winning and race is the biggest factor. A Black man may have a chance of winning within the next five decades, but one with last name Obama and has little experience is in the ride for his life. And the first Black national party nominee is gutting get mucked to the ground. Even if he's a Republican....

I think Hillary has a decent to maybe even good chance of winning the presidency. Yes, being a woman may hinder a political candidate, but Hillary has the asset of her husband and his last name and she seems much more intelligent and cautious than most politicians.

I think she will be attacked in sexist ways, but I feel Hillary will be smart in fighting those attacks and use it to her advantage.

The Iraq War has given Democrats an advantage. Hillary Clinton has the ability to beat a Romney or Thompson. I don't know about Guilliani, but I don't think he's gonna be the Republican nominee.

I think we will see a black president before a female president.

As much as we think some parts of the country are still racist, more is probably sexist.

Also, Hillary isn't likable and I think THAT's going to be where she loses.

I was watching Hillary some last week and over the weekend and if she thinks she has any chance of winning, she's pretty out-of-touch with reality.

It's like Captain Kirk vs. Captain Janeway.
There ARE some people who prefer Janeway, but there will NEVER be anywhere near as many as those who prefer Kirk, Picard, Sisko, etc.

Plus, every word Hillary says grates on you and you want to have her vocal chords surgically removed because she sounds like divine embodiment of "obnoxious b****"....she tries to overcome it and add some worth and it comes off so painfully bad.....just like Janeway.

Jon Stewart had some clips of Hillary from Sunday morning news programs on the Daily Show last night. Apparently Elizabeth Edwards said that she was "more joyful" than Hillary, so Hillary was letting out this horribly fake cackle on these morning programs. The problem was that the majority of the time she was doing it when there was absolutely nothing funny to laugh at whatsoever. It made her seem unhinged.

jag

she had a thing with the Native American/hispanic guy.

and having some kid with a Beatle haircut and hearts floating around is not gay???

No, he's not the manliest, but he has the strongest will...aside from Naruto, of course, and he works the hardest of anyone.

Since we are talking race, let's take a look at anime fans......From what I've seen, mostly white people who have no understanding of Japanese culture, regardless of how much manga they read or anime they watch.....I spent 2 years stationed in Japan when I was in the Navy, trust me, it's not all that different.....

You don't need to understand Japanese culture to watch anime. That's like saying you need to be from New York to watch Spider-Man.

On a sidenote, I do understand Japanese culture as well as someone can when they aren't apart of it. I've taken Asian studies and Japanese and have been doing martial arts for years and my sensei uses the old school Japanese traditions to teach, not the watered down Americanized ****.

I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I said that the anime fans seem to think they know what Japanese culture is when they have had no direct exposure to it. I could care less that you do "martial arts"....

I lived among that culture for 2 years.....taking "Asian Studies" and "martial arts" doesn't stack up.....That would be like me taking a "Womans' Studies" class and claiming that I know what its' like in the female culture....

Which is exactly why I said "as well as someone can when they aren't a part of it." Of course I don't completely understand it, I haven't even been there yet. You should read things more thoroughly before you try arguing with someone.

I can't speak for other anime fans, I don't know what they do or think. All I know is Naruto is a neat show, as are a few other anime, and Japan is an interesting country. But I don't really think much about Japanese culture when watching an anime as they don't have much to do with each other.

Also, there is no "female culture." Culture isn't based on gender.

And why do you put quotations around martial arts? Do you not believe in them or something?

There certainly is a female culture.....Women have their own rituals and way of doing things, just like men.....I put quotations around it because it bugs me when people whip out something like that, like they're special because they know judo or karate or savate etc.....

I'm a female and I'm unaware of any culture we have all to our own. Yeah, we do things differently then men sometimes, but I don't consider wearing makeup and high heels to be "culture."

lol. I'm not saying I'm special. I'm saying I understand a little piece of Japanese culture through my training and my teacher. Most of the people who think they're special because of it are just doing it to look "cool" or so they can be "tough" or some stupid **** like that. :whatever:

You wouldn't have bought it up if you didn't think it gave you some sort of advantage in the conversation.....
