I'm GLAD that they got rid of the red speedo.

And I like this as a type of proto superman costume. I like the trench coat idea.

If they wanted to go with a trunkless look for the new 52. They should have used the Smallville: Season 11 Superman Suit. Because in my opinion it looks so much better then the new 52 suit.

You're kidding right?

Wow....

This is the reason I haven't read it. I cannot take anothe hard core change like that. I knew when they did it I couldn't take it, but to hear it...and not know...

It's the same with all the heroes, Bruce is now the oldest and he's only 30.

If it helps, Action Comics is the best a Superman ongoing has been in years.

Is this 'new 52' the only Superman comic currently running, or are there 'older' versions with their own continuity still running? Is it the same with all the characters that had the 'restyle'?

The New 52 Superman isn't a new Superman, like Heroes Reborn, Ultimate Marvel or even Pre and Post-Crisis. He is the old Superman, time has just been changed.

Flashpoint was more akin to Zero Hour than Crisis On Infinite Earths.

So no. Nothing that takes place prior to Flashpoint is being published.

This trench coat suit should be Superman's suit in an alternate DC Universe.

I like Earth-2 Superman's suit.

S basically, the Superman in the new suit is the only Superman currently running in comics? Did they reboot his origin?

Yup, to both. There are elseworlds, Earth-2, but Superman is dead and Smallville.

So it's the new suit or nothing. But the same with everyone else, too, right?

Yep. The old suits never existed at all. Even on Earth-2 which is usually the "classic" iterations of characters (Kal-L Superman, Dick Grayson was only Robin etc) was changed to be modern, which IMO sort of made the concept redundant.

Thinking aloud here, I liked how they handled the belt area with this costume. I suppose they held up his trunks before, but as we know, they haven't used them this time. They could've had a belt for pure colour scheme reasons, but I wouldn't see the practical point really. Batman needs the utility belt to store items. What has Superman got to carry around? He can zip across the Atlantic and back again. When I think about it, a belt wouldn't have any use other than just being there.

well, for starters, Superman did at one point carried a piece of Kryptonite in the belt buckle of his belt (apparently it was lead lined)

I like Shane Davis' artwork a lot. I just didn't particularly dig the 3rd Act of Earth One. Too predictable.

I think Nicola Scott's Earth-2 suit or the Man of Steel suit are the strongest I've seen. I actually hate the New 52 suit now.

I was initially glad to see Jim Lee's first couple suit illustrations, but they got more armor-like with time. Annoyed me no end.

No point, just aesthetics. That's pretty much superhero costumes in a nutshell.

It is weird.

And... and...

I WANT TO TOUCH IT.

I just thought I post this; this is one of the ideas for a Superman outfit (not quite a suit) that I had and this was done before the New52 t-shirt/jeans look (which maybe this can now be considered an extension of that) and around the middle of Smallville Season 10 (where I thought of a blue recolor of the jacket, and attached a red leather cape to it)

And just to let it out: love the classic, love the New52 suit, love the New52 t-shirt/jeans, love Smallville Season 9, Season 10, and Season 11, and yes, love Man of Steel.

But, just to add, there one other suit that was really good too, and I don't think anyone has realised that: the Flyby suit. If I had to give one reason why, it would be because it gives a color balance of what is presented. Anyone else who has seen redesigns without the trunks always left everything else in place (maybe the belt, but definitely the boots) and that creates a problem because, if it is the first time you saw Superman in your life, it would feel like the suit is missing something, and of course if you have seen him in your life, he feels naked. The Flyby suit, which was all blue from top to bottom with the red and yellow "S" and red cape fixed all that. It's also the same reason why the batsuits from the films look that way: color balance. Anyway, that's why.

LOL that pic is a blast from the past! I did the original drawing used as the base in that sketch years ago
