Apperantly the gun barrel [BLACKOUT]is at the end[/BLACKOUT]

EDIT: woaw haha

Too slow. :007

I wonder how people are going to react to it. I kind of love how it was used in both Casino Royale and QoS, if not completely the execution in QoS. Both films both open brilliantly imo because there is no gunbarrel.

Skyfall will have a different sort of impact to TDKR. You can argue whether or not TDKR is a good film, but its predecessor was the standalone classic of the genre. It was impossible to beat in public reception, if not in quality. QoS represents a degree of disappointment for most people, so Skyfall has every opportunity to be a sensation.

...if it is as good as we hope.

Which is exactly my point. QoS not being as good as CR was a bigger problem then any problem within the film itself. Same for TDKR.

If Skyfall would be under much more scrutiny if it came on the heels of CR. I am not saying it wouldn't hold up to it, but it would definitely have its detractors for simply not being CR again.

Sorry, wrote that post before I saw yours. I was just curious about the hierarchy of professional critics in the UK, as whose judgment can be trusted in terms of making intelligent, insightful reviews. ie. who are the equivalents of people like Peter Travers and Roger Ebert.

Btw, spidey-dude, can you answer a couple of things (in spoiler tags or a PM if necessary)

1. Gunbarrel, tell me everything please...

2. What's wrong with the titles?

3.
How is Ralph Fiennes as Mallory? I know from the Bond on Set book that he is M in the end (with Eve as his secretary, if not Moneypenny?) and has Bernard lee's classic office.

ahhh I'm not one of them! haha I am a big Bond fan though (of the books not the movies)

Gunbarrel - slower walk than QoS - similar shooting pose.... its good...
its at the end
Titles just ddnt do it for me, preffered the CR and QoS ones - Adeles song worked well though

I wont post any spoilers at all as I promised I wouldnt - Fiennes is great as Mallory though

And a new traditional is officially cemented. Hopefully no complaints that could possibly change this.

oh and it is definitely my fav film of the year

Other then the Gerrard AV, which I cannot forgive you for, thanks a lot of the comments. Has me even a bit more excited. Going to be a long month.

I'm getting excited, I can't wait. Just one question Spidey-Dude, how much of the film is st in the UK?

the majority of the film is set here possible half or even 2/3s - its a nice change to have it set over here though

I hope it is a bit more interesting than that...

I did it awhile ago. Unless you know something I don't. Have you seen the future, another treble on the horizon? :awesome:

This sounds great. Funny that for such a British character, we rarely see his Britain.

The real question is if it is as good as the Avengers.

From the sounds of it, it is, at least by my criteria. Both the Avengers and TDKR were ultimately disappointments for me. I'm hoping Skyfall will be the one film to live up to expectations for me this year.

BTW, isn't about time for you to break your James Bond avatar out again?

I found sex with Eva Green to be disappointing for me. I was expecting a 10, but all I got was a 9.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999. :csad:

That's an interesting thing in the novels as well. With the exception of Moonraker, Bond spends little time in Britain and, when he does, he's not too happy. Moonraker, the novel, brought up some interesting themes about Bond being uncomfortable and feeling foreign at home. His regular tan, scar, and athletic build making him stand out among middle-aged, middle-class men. I wonder if Skyfall touches on this theme at all.

That's a slightly ambiguous distinction, in reality. "MI5" do undertake work outside the UK. Isn't the difference formed primarily by their opposing mandates of intelligence/counter intelligence?

As Bond is an assassin for the most part, he could stray into MI5's orbit.

But considering there has been 23 films, you'd think just once, a film would focused there. That seems to be the case here.

If you ever watched Spooks then MI6 do operate within the UK quite a lot if that's to be believed...

That's because he works for MI6, the overseas intelligence agency, not MI5, the domestic intelligence agency.
You don't say. :wow:

By the way, a fan of Spooks, so yeah I know the difference between MI6 and MI5.

There is a great episode of Spooks, with Hugh Laurie and Anthony Head, that touch on the turf war between the two branches.

It's always been something I've wanted to see, a Bond film set entirely/mostly in the UK...

I don't know how much Spooks should be believed on that point. I just started watching the series and I found the overlap within the UK quite jarring based on the reading I have done in the past.

My understanding is that the division is more on a foreign/domestic intelligence/security basis than an intelligence/counter intelligence issue as MI5 derives its authority from the Home Office and MI6 the Foreign Office. MI6 does have its own counterintelligence division, Bond being a fictionalized operative of that division actually.
