I hope with Skyline coming out In 50th annivary of DR No It IS true Bond
film again.And I have something to get excited about.

Secret Service( a great Film) The Spy Who Loved Me(Best of the 1970's
Bond.Moore trully arrived here) For Your Eyes Only(Best of 1980's.Moore's
best Bond film In my oporion) Goldeneye(Brosnan arrived with a bang)
The World Is Not enough(Brosnan's second best film)

Second series-Casino Royale

Connery may be best but I consider Diamonds are Forever worst film In series.
Connery Is only reason to watch It.I am huge fan of Brosnan but I will concede Tomorrow Never Dies Isn't one of strongest films and Die Another Day Is one of worst.I never hated Dalton but his films are not among
strongest films.But writers and Producers are a large reason why.

If Dalton had taken over for Moore after FYEO he would have been a good age for a hypothetical CR movie. Theres a lot of "what ifs" about Dalton as Bond. Maybe more than any other actor that got it since he was considered for the role at various points before he was finally locked in or his Bond films got stalled.

I've often wondered what it would have been been like if He'd taken the role earlier. or if Connery had stayed for OHMSS. Or if Brosnan had been allowed to do TLD. Or if Moore had done DAF. I feel like Dalton's short tenure is the biggest missed opportunity. My imagination runs wild.

The world wasn't used to or ready for his portrayal after Moore's long run as Bond but I think what Dalton did needed to be done. Bond needed to change with the times (without loosing his unique charm and fun of course). It wasn't the 60's or the 70's anymore and new types of film heroes were rising in the 80's. I certainly couldn't have taken Moore seriously in the role the late 80s and it would have been silly to go with someone that was a Moore clone.

I suppose Brosnan would have been the ideal choice since he had a lot of charm but to be honest I always felt Brosnan was a wee bit too young at that point.

I remember at one point it was rumoured that Ian Ogilvy was a potential candidate. He was clearly in the Moore mould, and even starred in the sequel series "Return of the Saint." However, he had a bit of a Brosnan hairstyle going on.

He would've been Bond-lite like Brosnan though, especially since he was rather skinny. I would say he was even Moore-lite.

I don't see how Moore's version is a faithful adaptation of the novel Bond.

As a guy who's read the books, Connery and Moore are the best Bonds, and as far as I'm concerned, everyone else lives in their shadow. They both defined the cinematic version of the character.

...Raiden was quite right to take that meaning. When you set up your opinion with the claim that you are a fan of the 'Bond character' from the novels, that tells us you consider 'Bond' to be the character from the books, so because you immediately after say Connery and Moore were the best 'Bonds', being in the same sentence, putting them in direct relation to that first claim, it says that you consider them closest to being the 'Bond' from the books.
The last sentence, in this context, the way you have expressed it, tells us that you think there are differences between the novel and cinema versions, to the extent there is a seperate cinema version, and their's are best, because they are closer to the book.

Just sayin'. If you were to write that up in an essay, your examiner would take it the way Raiden did too.

I had this idea awhile back but it was shot down.

What if we had James Bond novels but with Moore's James Bond? Or another set of James Bond novels with Brosnan's Bond.


I know they're basically the same character but each book could be divided into the era they made movies in

Connery-60's
Moore 70's
Dalton 80's
Brosnan- 90's
Craig- 00's


It could be like Doctor Who novels

Connery's interpretation is better than what Ian Fleming created. In the books, Bond is too snobbish and high-class. You have a hard time believing he's a badass spy. Connery, having grown-up in the ghetto, gave Bond the rough edges it needed. PLUS, he added some charm.

I completely reject that. Bond in the novels is repeatedly stated to be middle class, and he feels alienated by rich men and aristocrats. He certainly wasn't a snob, as he got on fine with a broad spectrum of people- a snob wouldn't have made a friend of either Quarrel or Felix Leiter. And...rough edges? Bond had been a commando in WW2.

That's very true.

Bond of the books is not an especially likeable character. He's very sober, very stiff upper lip, a 50's English hard man. He calls women, "luv." He makes speeches about the state of Britain and the world, how it's all going to pot.

The Bond of the books is nothing like any of the screen versions except Dalton and Craig, and even then it's not especially close.

Yeah, he was so impressed with Connery he made his heritage Scottish. And it once again shows that it doesn't matter how close to the book you are, it's what's on screen. For the creator and author of the character to be so impressed as to make a change to his own character says a lot.
